Let me know in the comments below what you struggle with and I will see what I can do to help in a future video.
Happy Painting!
I’m still having trouble with my clouds they just don’t look right what do I do
I want my colors to pop.... suggestions?
Silly question but, is it imperative to let it dry in the sun or can I let it dry indoors? The reason I ask is it's a massive canvas and it's quite cumbersome for me to carry.
I would suggest use a hair dryer on the canvas. This will make it nice and tight and you wont have to move it much 👍
@@WildCreates Right on! Thanks!
I bought some really cheap canvases they was 7 by 9 size so I sprayed it with some water and used a hairdryer to dry it and it worked great thank you for all your help 👍👍👍👍
Glad I could help you out with this little tip here - Happy Painting Buddy :)
Your videos are like an 80s commercial, I love it! Keep up the enthusiasm. It's the heartof your channel at this point!
Thanks for the awesome comment buddy.
I am glad that my videos can entertain and educate. Happy Painting 💪
you love seeing 80% commercials? Wow. Hes got an anomoly in you. The rest of us leave before its ending. lIfes too short dude.
I have a canvass that has some dimples in it but it's already painted. Can this work for pictures that are already finished?
Thanks so much!!!
Yes it can, However it could effect the paint depending on how thick the application was. You will kinda have to test it or roll the dice on it. But I know it works on already painted canvases. You can also look into canvas frame keys too. Hope that helps
Thanks man....Doing a HUGE canvas to cover my flip down Murphy bed. Got a little loose...Ill try this before I hit it with Gesso and start painting........
For something that big you might want to add canvas keys and a cross bar for extra support
How do you get all of these ideas ???
Just years of struggling with painting myself helps forms my ideas 😝
@@WildCreates ok thank you 😁😁
Try rubbing your palette knife on the back of the canvas after spraying the water. Spread the water under the wood and all. Love this channel BTW
Not a bad idea there - I sometimes do the poor man's trick and just use my fingers to spread it around ha ha ha.
Thanks for the kind words and happy painting.
This worked perfectly!!!!!
Glad I could help - If you find it not lasting for your needs you can always make a slurry too. Which I show how in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/ErBX4ggI3Cg/v-deo.html

Hi, thanks for sharing this tip. But how can I fix it if was already painted on?
Use wooden key frames or shims.
Thank you very much 🙏
You are super welcome.
Will this method work on a canvas without a wood frame supporters? Like foldable canvas.
Without knowing more about your foldable canvas I am not sure. However if that canvas is made out of Cottonduck then yes. It will tighten out some.
This worked perfectly!! I had two square canvases that were saggy and even warped looking on top (professional grade but purchased a couple years ago). I tried spraying the backs from a different video but it didn't help. The key was spraying and setting outside and I repeated this about 4 times and they look perfect now. Completely taut which is important for pour painting or any painting. :) I even had myself googling about the wooden keys and different stretching tools. Nope...this did the charm. Used tap water (forgot to use distilled). Lightly spray backs, set outside back side facing sun, repeat x 4 once dried in between...which takes only 5 -10 min in Phoenix AZ. Thank you for this video and saving the headache of what the heck to do with a saggy canvas.
I am glad that my video could help you out and save a few of your canvases 💪
Amazing! Bought some dollar store canvas to get back into painting and everything I've been able to find to fix the sag was buy wedges! Was so happy to come across something I could do right away.
Happy to hear I can help and that you are getting back into painting.
Good Luck and happy painting

Any tips on how to fix a canvas with warped stretcher frames with un-level corners? Even at Michaels I've noticed some Level 2 canvases also have this problem while still in the packaging.
Yeah, its cause how they store them leaning on there side ( which can warp them over time ). Its a little long for a text BUT You can sometimes fix it with adding weights to the corners and warping it back, you can also add canvas frame keys to pull certain corners tighter.
If you have no luck - you can buy like clear pads or felt furniture pads and attach to the back so it sits flush on the wall. It wont fix the issue but it will stop the warp look on the wall :)
I hope that helps until I make a video on it
@@WildCreates That's what I just started doing with one of my smaller 11x14s. I tried getting the stretchers a little wet around the corners before stacking some weights, hoping it makes a difference. Unfortunately, I've been noticing it a LOT in store packaging lately and even in some of the bundled packs contain both leveled and warped canvases. Then again, maybe it's just my Michaels that's like that... My main concern is trying to frame them in the future, haha!
Anyway, thanks for the tips! I haven't seen a lot of people talking about this kind of issue, so I look forward to a future video!
Main tip is.... IF you can look and test the canvas before buying.
You know what? I think I will actually make a video on what I do before I pull the trigger on buying a canvas. I think I can really help save artist money
@@WildCreates Agreed. I actually did that during my last visit. I've become the one oddball who now lays each packaged canvas on the floor before buying it.
There are dozens of us!
I do the same thing PLUS a few other tricks which I will share
Hi 👋 I have a oil painted and dented canvas. In your video you said to avoid spraying water on a painted canvas, how can I repair it? Please help!!!
It can be tough once it is painted but you are left with really only two options:
You can have it re-stretched and framed from a store or professional ( which is not cheap ). OR if the sag or dent isn't too bad. You can buy those wood shims and wedge them in the corners of the frame - This will add more tension and stretch the frame more ( reducing sag )
I hope that helps.
I went ahead and risked the water spray. It worked wonders and no damage seen.
Please how I remove the little bumps after nice paint is dry please
Which types of bumps are you talking about so I know how to help ya.
Great tip. Thank you 🦋
You are so welcome. Make sure to hit that sub button for more helpful tips.
Once the water dries, wil it be loose again..just a doubt..
Have sprayed water and it worked thats a lot ❤
If you think it will become loose - I would recommend using the frame keys.
No. It worked . I was just curious to know how that happened..
Magic ha ha ha - the water and heat tighten the fibers... just like when you put wet clothes in the dryer.
Does this work for mass produced art canvas?
Are you talking about blank canvases or canvases that already have arty painted or printed on them?
What Level canvas would you say the Blick Studio Stretched Cotton Canvas is?
To be honest Nirco - I haven't really used Blick's yet.
I have a Michael's next to my house and I by about 75% of my canvas from them when they are on sale. I will see what I can do in a future video to cover some Blick canvases though.
So the gesso on the canvas and the acrylic paint don’t have similar chemicals present? Cause I have a painting (incomplete) and the canvas is a saggy mess😭 and I use water with my acrylic paints. Would adding water to tighten it at the back still create problems? 🤔
They can be similar builds - Depends on what you buy. Most gessos are water based ( check your bottle ). When you spray the back - The bare cotton duck is absorbing the water ( not the gesso ) so it pulls that tighter.
I am not sure how saggy yours is( feel free to DM me a pic on IG ) BUT it sounds like adding keys to your frame would help out more. Hammer in some keys/shims into the corner of your frame on the back and that should help a ton.
I hope that helps
Thank you so much!!! So easy and inexpensive to do!!!
Glad I could help you out.
Hopefully my other videos give you some good tips
Hey question does it have to be sun or can I use a hairdryer
You can do that, Using the sun is way easier for thing like big canvases - But you can use a hair dryer too
It's too late for me. I already started to paint on it by the time I noticed it was sagging. Any way it can salvaged at this point?
Get some of those canvas/frame keys I talk about. Put them in before the artwork dries. It wont fix it completely BUT it will help.
Thankyou wild
Glad to help out buddy :)
I don't have oil paintes and my dad don't buy on line cuz he got scammed on 300$ no joke. And every art store in my country are closed. What will I do pls.
A lot of art stores are doing curbside pickup. That might be the best option for you, if you can’t buy and have something delivered online.
Build your own- the lumber shop will cut the wood to your specifications- but canvas cloth from fabric store
The lotion comment got you an instant subscriber, sir
Welcome aboard!
Glad to make ya smile ha ha ha
Ok so now I know how to do this, thank you! I have a question tho...I ordered a 36x36”cotton pre-stretched canvas and one of the wood cross braces appears like it had been shaven thinner. Is that a bad thing? Should I return it or, since it’s still half the widths of the other crossbar (and half of that same crossbar) , will it still securely hold in place...
Hard to say without looking at it BUT I think you would be OK on a square canvas. However, if it bothers you I would return it for one that has a better cut. Sometimes if you take it back and show them the defect they will give you a nice discount on it. Give it a Go
LOVE this tip especially since I bought the Artist Loft brand canvases at Michaels. My question is, do you have a threshold of what is too loose and what is acceptable as opposed to what should be tightened? I saw how you checked and I also listened to the sound but just starting out I'm not quite sure on this part. At any rate, I did what you suggested and ohhhhh man, did it tighten up nicely!
Thanks again for all the great info you put out there for us Wild!!!! :-)
Anything that has a good flick bounce to it will work nicely. But if you are just starting out, don’t worry to much about it. The more you paint the better you will understand how you like your canvases.
Hey Wild...I have a 6” x 6” x 1.5” stretched canvas. I want to paint the sides while painting (all in one sitting). I don’t want to wait for two sides to dry then turn the painting to paint the other sides. What do you do/or use?
You would have to invest in a easel that floats your canvas when its mounted. That type of easel holds the canvas from the back on the wooden frames. Allowing you to paint all the sides.
They are not that cheap, good news is you can build one. There are a few YT videos on it.
I personal only paint the sides and bottom on a Gallery Wrap canvas (the rest I will frame, aka you done see the sides).
So I would put into YT search "easel that floats your canvas when its mounted", correct?
I remember @AndrewTischler had one on his channel a while back.
Give it a peak: ua-cam.com/video/Rk-sdBaCfkI/v-deo.html
Thanks Wild!
Glad to help.
Sun? What’s that? Right now we have about a foot and a half of snow and more is falling. I’m wondering if putting this in front of my pellet stove would do the same trick. I am going to go try it and then let you know… yes yes it does work! So sun is not a requirement yippie winter is a great time to paint!
Bwah ha ha ha... NICE.
Well you can still do this trick in your house. Just let it fry over night OR if you own a hair dryer. Just hit the back of it with that and you will be good to go.
I hope that helps you out. And let me know if your way worked too.
Is there a way to fix it if there is already a painting on it ?
Your best bet is to use those canvas keys that you can put into the frame OR you will have to get it re-streched at a professional framer.
I hope you can help. How do I fix an artist canvas panel already painted on? It’s bowing on the sides.
Sadly there is not much you can do. I know some people weigh the corners or tape the down to get them back to even and flat. But they are normally non painted ones or wet painted panels. You could try on a finish piece but I fear it May crackle or crack.
@@WildCreates well when it dries I'm gonna try and weigh it down 🤞 and hope it works without cracking. I usually use canvas but thought these would be cool. Didn't know they had issues.
If I spray before will it save it from happening again or just the nature of paneled ccanvas?
Panels are generally compressed paper or cardboard wrapped with lite canvas paper. So they can act like sponges when they get wet with paint. Hence they can curl/warp when drying.
I find it best to only use them as practice material to improve your skills or experiment. If you are quick enough, when it dries. Place it in a frame, that way it will remain flat since the frame will be holding the edges.
@@WildCreates Thank you 😊 appreciate your time
Glad to help out.
Does blow drying work ?
Yes it can.
What should I do I've already painted on the canvas?
You can try using wedges or shims to tighten the canvas. That would be best 👍
my cat stepped on my canvas :/
Fur-babies can be art's number one enemy ha ha ha
My dog stepped on a bee 😢
How would you fix a saggy canvas BOARD? A friend bought some canvas BOARDS cause their were super cheap, and the part where you paint is all saggy. Now she doesn't know how to fix them... Or if they are fixable at all!
Any ideas?
Canvas boards are basically canvas glued to cardboard. So they dont really sag... more like warp. The only really fix is apply weight to bend them back. Stack them under something heavy and flat for like a day or two.
@@WildCreates thx! I'll tell her, but I saw them and they didn't look warp, some parts looked like big deflated bubbles. Like flappy skin... 😅 I don't know how to describe it! Weird! Is a shame I can't share an image here!
Oh - maybe the glue came lose then.
This is actually REALLY helpful😮😃👏
Glad to help you out buddy 💪
Lol, did nobody get the quarantine supplies joke. Hilarious, nearly spat out my tea.
Glad I can help you out and give ya a laugh at the same time :)
So we just hung this huge canvas over our steps and now there is a sag? Do you think the water will work in this instance? Thanks
Do you mean the canvas or the frame holding the canvas
Oh and a couple questions! I just tried this on my 36”x36” and it WORKED! However, it came soooo loose when delivered that it’s still not as taught as I’d like. Will doing it a few more times even work on this size canvas? Or will it only work on smaller canvases? And, can I do this multiple times throughout my painting process? Last canvas seems to start sagging while I was working on it (I’m thinking I’m not so gentle with my painting 😂 🙊)
Yes you can do it a few times to make it more taught in the cotton/canvas. I myself have done it 5x to one canvas before. But its not a miracle worker... if you notice that its not getting any better, you will have to put shims in the corner to tighten it up.
You also want to make sure you do any of these steps before painting on the canvas...
BTW its OK to not be gentle with you canvas... Have fun and splash that passion of color on there :)
@@WildCreates thank you for your reply!
You are welcome - Glad to help out where I can.
Keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤠
Will do buddy
You're an awesome teacher anyway you can teach us how to do cityscapes or Street Scenes
Oh man those are really tough - I will see what I can do in a future video for ya.
Thanks
You are super welcome.
This method does not work for a very saggy canvas. I tried this method initially and only saw a minor improvement. The trick that ACTUALLY WORKED was brushing a generous amount of medium matte onto the canvas and letting it dry. I couldn't believe how well it worked, but this is the way.
Glad you found a way that works for you.
While introducing a hefty amount of medium to the canvas and allowing it to dry can pull the canvas tighter.... it can also crater over time because of the weight in the center and no frame support. Using the wooden keys/shims in the corner of the canvas frame is a great way to add extra support.
What if that sagging happens, but not on a streched canvas but on a panel canvas BOARD?
Do you mean warp? Boards can't really sag since they are more or less glued to cardboard.
What if its winter and you can't put your canvas outside to dry.
You can still leave it inside ( It will just dry slower is all ) -or- You can use a hair dryer on it ( just go across it evenly is all )
Hope that helps :)
I did the water trick and it worked great! But now the corners are more loose than the rest of the canvas. did I do something wrong.
thanks
You're welcome!
Make sure to hit that sub button for more awesome videos.
I tried, but the next day it was already loose. Why I can't understand? Can you help me?
Each canvas is different - Sometimes you have to do the process multiple times.
Do it a few times and also try using the wooden shims that come with the painting
I live in Michigan and it’s winter. Guess my canvases will stay loose until June 😭
You can use a hair drier if you have one OR you can let it dry in your home... It will just take a little while.
Hope that helps
@@WildCreates I sprayed one last night, and let it sit overnight, and when I woke up it was dry and drum tight. Works like a charm! Thanks.
Heck ya - I am glad it all worked out for ya buddy. Happy Painting!
Getting these odd lines in my paint as they dry . Goes the opposite way of my paint stokes . Like the oil is separating from the color .
Did you by chance mix you oil with acrylic paint or add any mediums to your oil?
Used liquid white . Use too much ? Would it Streak?
Not really, you would have to use a butt ton. Sounds more like you didn't mix up the LW that well and it was mostly oil. Which can be bad for your paints.
Wat about finished canvas
Using canvas wedges or keys will be your best bet 🔥
What if the canvas is not on a frame and is a paint by numbers?
Then what is it on that is sagging?
Hair dryer works too!
That it does - Its a little more work BUT works all the same ❤
@@WildCreates Oh? Now this might be a good trick, I was just wondering what to do now in winter when the sun doesn't appear and it's ~ 0 C (32 F) around here - why not both? Squirt some water and then blast it with hair dryer indoors. :)
You don't necessarily have to put the canvas in the sun. I've had success by simply misting the back, and front too a few times, in my kitchen.
Yeah just letting it dry normally will work just fine. Most people want to paint right away.... which is why I put mine in the sun :)
Was about asking a question about how to correct a saggy painting but you've already said it won't work for it
If you already painted on it, you can use the wooden shims that come with the canvas - This will help tighten it BUT be carful when doing it. Adding too much can split your dried painting
@@WildCreates Whoa! Thanks. Would find a some and try it on it. Was beginning to resolve to wishing the sag to magically disappear which will obviously not. 😄
I did that with a big canvas I have... it was not a good idea, the sun did something to the wood and its not flat anymore on my wall. It looks twisted now and I dont know how to fix it Maybe if you want to try this idea, put some waits around the wood frame.. (?)
With this technique, that is pretty much impossible for that to happen unless you water-logged the hell out of wood and exposed it to extreme heat, cold and pressure. Cotton Duck isn't that strong.
You must like bought a canvas the was stored improperly ( hanging on an edge or by its corner ) this is sometimes common and art stores. Which is why you wanna look at a canvas and frame before buying.
There is a chance you can correct it with weights and wood shim to re-balance and align it. Give it a go.
👏👏👏👏👏👌🙏
Glad I can help you out. Be sure to hit that sub button for more helpful videos
Yoo what’s up with this guy being weirdly sexual thooooo
Sorry didn't mean to turn you on 😂😂😂
The ladies love it 💪
Good tip but the video was so long I almost did not make it to the tip
Come for the answer... Stay for the personality.
That's so awesome!!! Gonna try this tomorrow!
Awesome - Let me know how it goes for ya buddy :)
and two three days later its gonna be saggy again.
if you do this and uses the keys it wont be
How about a painted canvas?
Canvas frame keys are your best go too. Or you will have to take it to a frame store to see if they can re-stretch it without ruining it
You are only aloud 15 mins of fame (Andy Warhol) so don't waste it, get to the point and tell us what we need to hear.
You are welcome for your free content ( Wild Creates ). Absorb and learn 😋
Doesn’t last
You might have to do it a few times to get it to stay. If it still sags, add canvas keys like i said in the video 💪
