Hey there, I'm wondering if it is possible to set a stop loss on an option contract using the price of the underlying stock rather than the options premium?
if you have a stop loss active, and you try to sell MKT order to take gains, will it override the stop loss? or will you have to cancel the stop loss order first and then sell MKT to take gaIns?
Great question! Yes, you can buy stocks before market opens by placing a limit order. Make sure it's a "Good to Close" or "GTC" order and not just during a market hours order. Also, depending on your brokerage, you might still be limited. Which brokerage are you using?
Thank you very much for answering, I'm using Webull, I don't know if that was the question. And I have another query, how do I place Stop Loss when I buy options?
So you can't get out by setting a ETF market price?? I like Bull put spreads and if the stock price dropped to withing 5 points of my spread I would like to close to eliminate the risk of being assigned.
Learning options nowadays, what is the significance of the $1.5 limit price when nio is trading in the 40s? How come in options, it’s just not the current share price?
Hi @Robert Rayhart, it is possible to have trailing stop losses on options, but Webull has implemented it yet! Some other brokerages and platforms like ToS do. But I wouldn't be surprised if Webull adds it soon!
Hi @Robert, I have released a Webull Trailing Stop Loss video! Check it out, I think you'll enjoy and learn from it! ua-cam.com/video/Ttmlppsp_PA/v-deo.html
@@BaracudaOfficial @Robert Rayhart I have been taught trading via TOS platform. This is unavailable in the UK. I'm currently looking for a trading platfrom where options have a stop loss implimented. I'm currently having to set alerst in Tastyworks but this has its own issues, especially if you have no wifi or internet at the time the alert triggers. You then have no way to know to close it until its too late. Tastyworks tends to be very problematic in this area. Sadly TOS have no plans to make themselves accessible to the UK. So I'm looking for other Trading platforms where its possible. If Webull introduce this then it would be the solution to my problem
When using a the mobile app, If you purchase a contact at $1.00 and the contact goes in your favor and its now at $2.00. If i were to set a stop loss of %10, is the app going to be set it at the point of purchase, $1.00, or is it going to set the 10% stop loss from the current price, $2.00? This would be for an options trade.
can you guide on how to put a stop-loss on option if the stock price falls below a number. for example - i bought AAPL calls at 1.50 stock price at 150. now i want to put a stop-loss if the stock price goes at 148.
Hi Ghost, good question, I cover this in my other two videos, but this unfortunately does not work in pre-market. This is how it works for all brokerages. Hope this helps!
I can't think of a more innovative way to earn from the financial market other than having a professional guidance through and through. You'll be surprised at how far one can go with some help...
Would you recommend this for options with long expirations? I had one option drop 40% in a couple days but I never had a stop loss and continued holding and eventually sold for 25% profit the week after
It depends on how you’re trading.. You could’ve very easily got burnt and it never recover in time for ur EXP making ur contracts worthless. But if you’re trading with technical analysis and you see okay i’m down 40% but it’s got heavy support here and i’m predicting a run up if it breaks this resistance than yeah that’s better and u could even average down but 40% is pretty steep. Stop losses are nice because they can prevent that and u just cut the loss and keep it at a minimal loss and move on instead of having emotional roller coaster and crossing ur fingers that it’ll play in time. Sounds like u got lucky but options aren’t as forgiving as shares are so good luck and be careful
I hate that the order shows 1.40 and the stock price is really $58. That’s confusing. Is there a way to set the order price what the actual price of each share is?
I set up a stop loss with my buy order. When the order is submitted and I want to add to the position I find that the stop loss will not match the position shares. Is there a way for the stop loss to follow how much shares I have if I want to add or remove shares from my position?
thanks for video. how do you change the size of the L2, and how do you have the position and orders tab vertical rather than horizontal, and combined in one tab?
Can Webull desktop and/or Android app do contingent option orders? Similar to what is shown in the vid, but not triggered on the price of the option itself. Based instead on the price of the underlying being touched or crossed. So if I have an OTM short put open at a $40 strike, I'd like to have a buy to close order at market ask price (or mid price + 25%) if the underlying price trades at $41. Can you do a video showing how to create that contingent stop order?
Hi C Puzz, great question. I actually only think E-trade has that option from my knowledge, but even then, contingent option orders have been known to really screw you on the fills. I would highly recommend instead setting up alerts at price points then evaluating from there. A massive candle vs a gradual grind to a price level can really make the difference on a price and fill. You can do this on Webull!
Can you do a video on how to close the short strike of a credit spread in Webull Desktop and/or Android app? For the situation where a big gap or body gap forms over the spread and it's likely to keep going and it's advantageous to let the long strike run, but buy back the sold leg. I see there is "Create new order" for closing both legs of a vertical before expiration, but how do you close just one strike?
I have a question. I set a stop at 1.70 and it was filled at 1.10. I checked to see what the bid and ask were right after and they were both higher than 1.10. And this happened during the day not after hours. Why would this happen.? $60 seems like a large gap.
Hi Desirae, did you place a stop loss order or a stop loss limit order? It's possible that the option you selected has really low volume which meant that the nearest option buy order that was available was 1.10! Sorry to hear, but unfortunately that's the risk of stop loss orders for options, especially low volume contracts.
Hi, the pending stop loss order for options wouldn't show as a horizontal line on the stock chart because options have a lot of factors that play into price!
Hi Mauricio, an option pricing is 100x of the price. 1.45 would translate to $145 ROUGHLY. Option pricing is quite complicated, I might actually make a video on it.
Good question, so my strategy really depends on the stock and price action, relative to overall market conditions. As for the stop loss, you can modify it to move it! I normally never cancel a stop loss to place a new one since you can just modify it when you right click the order!
Dude I play like 10 plays daily at market open with 15-20 contracts I don’t have time to adjust the stop price and limit price with this volatility, I have hotkeys , just make a video where you just send a stop limit at 50% that’s all , options is fast pace
