    I'm Thai and am currently studying in Sydney, I'm also very interested in Chinese food and culture as my family has a very strong Chinese heritage. Love your content, Keep up the good work. If you want some more Thai food to review in Sydney, there's this place called Show Nuea Thai Street Food on George Street that serves northern Thai food. They have Thai clay hot pot there called Chim Chum where the soup is usually derived from herb, including many Thai dishes that people in Australia would likely have never heard of.

    In Singapore, the Thai restaurants call it “Mookata”. Love it so much.

      Yup, it's pretty much the same thing - the actual pronunciation is moo-gra-ta.
      How much does it cost in Singapore? Is it a buffet all-you-can-eat type of thing or ala carte?
      (I'm curious, haven't had it in Singapore. Singaporean living in Northern Thailand.)

      It’s really fascinating how affordable it is over here in Thailand and a mookrata buffet can go as low as $8 SGD with no time limit!

    We spell it mookata in Singapore, and we have a shopping centre filled with all the southeast Asian restaurants, including tons of mookata restaurants. My Thai colleague brought our team there once, and according to him, that area is where you will find authentic mookata in Singapore (along with other southeast Asian food like Indonesian or Philippino food) I still prefer hotpot/steamboat, but mookata is a close second when it comes to "self-cooking" buffet.
    Also, the whole point of the bbq in the centre is to allow the juices and oil from cooking the food to flow into the soup, so the soup still gets the flavour like hotpot, but with a slight smoky flavour from the bbq.

      Actually, Moo kra ta is the right thing. Because in Thai 'kra'​ is a diphthong. กระ = kra / ก = k / ร = r / ะ = a

    I actually stumbled upon a mookata place hidden behind a market in Thailand with a couple of mates 5 years ago. It was the first time I had it and was amazed by the price we had to pay (190bht back then). It was all you can eat 6pm-10pm.
    Needless to say I went back there many times after that. Even brought some Thai friends there and they told me the price and quality (freshness) of the food was top notch.
    Last time I ate there was Dec 2019 and the place was jammed packed with locals and I had to pay 290bht for the same course. I actually regretted bringing my Thai friends there initially lol.

    In Malaysia, mookata can choose Tom yam soup flavor for hotpot part

      We do moo kata at home in Melbourne and my wife likes to mix in some tom yum paste into the broth. I like to use a light chicken broth infused with lemongrass. First time I tried moo kata in Thailand some years back it was an old school outdoor place using charcoal. These days you can go to moo kata franchises in shopping centres which give you set menus and a more sanitised experience which is better for the family but I prefer the rustic old style charcoal moo kata restaurants that are open air. There is a moo kata restaurant on Bourke Street in Melbourne, haven't tried it yet but I will soon 🤤

    Nice content again. It brought a smirk to my face when I learnt that, not only is there a Western version of Chinese food but there's also a Western version of Thai food.
    On a separate note, you're getting very close to another important milestone (200K) coming up which could come in time for your birthday this Sunday. I remember because of that great collaboration you had with a fellow great vlogger (Miriam) around a similar time last year because you both share the same birthday.
    Once you reach this milestone, may we add another zero to this figure somewhere down the track!!
    Can't wait to see the second series with yourself and your parents on the mainland! I just know it's gonna be great!!

    you must try and include your mum and dad even when u do go back to china eventually, i watch your channel more bcoz of ur parents. its a lovely treat for me to watch all 3 of u together' you are very lucky coz i can see ur parents supporting what u do and want u to do well, so they end up giving their best when they appear with you. both of them deserve best supporting actor and actress awards, will miss seeing them on your youtube channel, the camera just loves them two!!!

    Wow, this instrument is creative. Had been many BBQ + hot pot places (mostly Korean restaurant), where they generally have two instruments for separate purposes and it's hard to have both simultaneously. Dating back to 2010, this might go viral in foreign cities, when BBQ/hot pot were extremely popular (a lot more popular than nowadays).

    In Singapore, we spell this as Mookata. It has been a craze since about 3-5 years ago and now it has become one of the main meal for groups of people much like how KBBQ, JBBQ and hotpot has been. Since our country is multi-racial/multi-cultural, we are really accepting on new culture and things, especially when it comes to food.

    MuGaTa is sorted of Korean style hot plate BBQ which went viral in Taiwan in the 90s, but as flame died off, A Taiwanese restaurateur introduced it to Bangkok in 2000. Instantly it became a great hit, The genius Thai have reinvented it even more with lots Thai elements. Bravo !

    I see a lot of Singaporean and Malaysian calling it Mookata, which is actually not how it's supposed to be pronounced and spelled, but that's how they have been doing there for so long it's understandable. Still, Mugrata is actually the most accurate pronunciation.

    Even in China, Hotpot can be roughly divided into two types: Flavour in the hotpot (like sichuan mala) or flavour in the dip sauce( Peking style北京铜锅, chaoshan style 潮汕牛肉锅 ).

In Southeast Asia even when comparing with Asian, food, the chilli sauce can easily give away, the type of crusines you are having. Keep up the good work!     I had an experience with such type of pot but in a Korea restaurant. They combined chicken grill with egg custard. Whole chicken meal LOL.

    I had local connection in Bangkok and dined in the places where locals go to. Super big prawns, fish cooked with thick layer of salt outside. Lots of seafood. Surprisingly when we had pad thai or pineapple fried rice it was not too different from a Thai restaurant in Sydney.

    That's not a terrible price for unlimited food. I never eat enough for it to be worthwhile for me but seems like a reasonable offer for those with bigger stomachs. However, I love the idea of an unlimited dessert bar. :)

    Depend on places / countries.... The soup have choices.... In Malaysia, we do have the choice of pork bone soup, Tom yum soup also depend on resturant also tomato soup... And if use charcoal as the fire the taste is more aroi mak

    I am a Taiwanese who lived in Thailand for 15 years. I miss the "Thai" hot pot sauce. I recently found it was actually Chinese (Cantonese) seafood sauce when I tried to find the receipe. @@

    Buffet community in Thailand is serious business. I saw on buffet fb group someone eat 40+ scoops of Haagen dazs ice cream and 20+ the restaurant famous daifuku.

    As an American I thought it was that he was so excited about the soda fountain. They are literally everywhere in the US. I guess cafeteria style dining is not a thing in other places. Until this I didn’t know free refills wasn’t a thing in other places. He should see the modern Coke Machines, the options are endless.

      It’s not about cafeteria style dining....in many other countries free refill, unlimited napkins, free sauces are like finding needle in a haystack. Only in US they give you 10 ketchup with mikeyD’s. In Amsterdam I had to pay extra for extra ketchup and their large drink is like small here in the US. Less waste.

    Get Paddy to introduce you to Lanna and/or Isaan food! These two regions are up North in Thailand and close to China so you might find some interesting connection between food from these two regions and food from the southern regions of China.

    i think i once had something like this in california before. the pot was almost the same, but we needed to keep adding some sukiyaki sauce to "bbq" the meat. then the sauce went into the "hot pot" section to cook the veggies. i thought it's a japanese thing because of the sukiyaki sauce and the super good waygu beef. but i still don't know what it's called since it's clearly not shabu shabu or sukiyaki...

    This was my favorite way to eat while in Thailand. We had friends over to the house and just went to the cafe and held up the number 2. They knew where the only two white guys in the town lived. It was surreal seeing them deliver it on scooters with the flaming embers trailing behind them

    I have been this restaurant before! There are a lot of cost-effective Thai restaurants in Haymarket.😉 Recommend another Thai BBQ Buffet in Hy: Air Abb. I have seen your previous videos, and I want to recommend another famous Yum cha restaurant- Marigold. Strongly recommend you to try it. Hope to meet you in the restaurant some day in SYD☺️

    Amy, I’m pretty sure they have similar restaurant in China years ago. But have u tried the Cantonese seafood steam pot and end with seafood juice congee as 2 in 1 pot in Guangdong province before? Heaps good! Hope they have it in Australia one day.

    I definitely need to go to Thailand again and experience more of their cuisine. When I was there I kept trying to order different dishes to try but half of what I ordered ended up being Chinese-influenced dishes, which, I get is historically accurate as China did have a huge presence in Asia so the cuisine naturally influenced many Asian countries. But, still, I feel gyped (?) because I'm Chinese so I didn't want to eat Chinese-influenced cuisine in Thailand. LOL.

    There is a Chinese version of this grill/boil bbq pot quite widespread in South China, Malaysia, Singapore long before I first tried it in 1996.
    If you are in Singapore, you must try the Chinese version.

      ​@@BlondieinChina It could be 299 baht (about 12 AUD) which is like the standard all-you-can-eat buffet. It could get more expensive like 499,599(20,24) for like seafood buffet and stuff it really depends. But looking at the video. The place is quite standard so I don't think it's worth paying 34 AUD. With 34 dollars I would rather go to a Japanese yakiniku buffet because It's more premium and worth the price.

    I have to say I am not too crazy about this. I've been to Thailand, I don't think they do this very commonly. This sounds like a fusion of Thai, Chinese or even Korean.
    The grill pan looks awfully like in a Korean BBQ.
    I've seen that in Chinese restaurants, they have grill service on the side and a pot of soup for doing hotpot in the center.
