    Just did this fluid swap on my c7 corvette with the same trans. OMG the diff is amazing!! Car only had 39k miles but was having hard shifts and shuddering in gears 5/6/7. This INSTANTLY took all of that away. I was skeptical I can’t lie. The new fluid is much improved!

      Also I did it differently. I didn’t remove the pan, what I did was sucked 6 quarts out of the pan, then refilled, then ran the car through the gears on jack stands for 10 mins, then sucked out another 6 quarts, then filled it, did this 4 times total and even then the fluid was only apprx 75% clean but wow the major diff in the trans shifting has my mind blown.

    Great video and explanations. I just did my 2016 GMC All Terrain stock 20” tires. My truck had started shuddering at 60k miles, but all my mileage is highway. I do all my mechanical work and after watching your video, it was a piece of cake. My pan came out easily, slid right out without loosening anything and I reused the original gasket after completing the cleaning and new filter. All pan screws were torqued as you explained, 7 qts out, 7 in, but I drilled a 1/2 hole on top of quart bottle cap and just changed from one bottle to the next using the Harbor Freight pump. Did the gear shifting then took it for a few mile drive, runs great.

    Hey Danny, I changed the filter and fluid yesterday (10 Aug 23) on my 2017 Yukon (Denali). (30K miles) My filter was sightly different with a seal I also changed (this vehicles filter had no metal clip on top & had a longer tube - no big deal) I used 7 quarts of the Mobile 1 blue label full synthetic ATF LV HD. I didn't have the shudder in 7th or 8th gear that some reported (higher mileage typically) but I had the bump when slowing down between 2nd and 1st gear. Verry happy to say it is gone as others have stated. Cheers.

    2021 Silverado 1500 5.3 8spd….that pry bar trick doesn’t work. Tried to reposition it even took the exhaust clamp off the downside of y pipe. It hits the crossbar. It does come down enough to where u can angle it down towards the front. Take the filter out and clean the pan but be careful. I was able to do it without completely taking it off. Good luck. It’s worth a try. There will be a lot of fluid you won’t be able to access that is up in the torque converter, so I would recommend doing this process twice (or at least once the fluid and filter have been replaced, drain it from the overflow drain plug and fill it again. With that said you may want to buy about 12 quarts

    The real reason for torque converter shudder and the need for LV fluid is allowed slip of the Torque Converter Clutch in the factory programming of the transmission computer. If you get hp tuners, (send off your TCM 2017+) and zero allowed TCC slip you don’t have any shudder.

      You’ll still only get what’s in the pan out and it will be hot. This drain a replace is less invasive and less risky than to flush the system, but it is more time consuming and uses more fluid if you repeat the process a few times to dilute it. You won’t need to drip the pan again once the filter is replaced, but you can drain and refill the fluid every few 100 miles

      Yes. At 10:23 in the video it shows that part. There is no dip stick on this transmission so you use the fill level plug. Be careful as the hot exhaust is right there.

      It’s called torque shutter from the torque converter. It’s a common issue with the 8 speed and this is one of the “fixes” However, you’ll only get half the fluid out since the rest is up in the converter , so you may want to replace the fluid again to continue to dilute it

    Why dont you recommend a flush?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  3 роки тому

      Enduro VEX The first reason is the machines do not get cleaned out properly between flushes, so you end up with different fluid from the previous flush and this fluid needs to be specificity as shown. Next, a flush introduces some dirty fluid from the previous job. Next, the pressures used to flush the system are greater than what the transmission normally sees and cause damage. Just a few reasons and you’ll hear of many people having problems from it if you look around.

    Hello. Do you recommend flush every time for oil change or it enough to change oil with filter without flush ?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  9 місяців тому

      I personally believe that it is best to change the filter and the fluid each time and not do a flush as it is more gentle on the system. You will not get all of the fluid out by simply draining it because much is up in the torque converter, so multiple fluid and filter changes seem to be the best.

      What? GM Knows there is a problem! It's most likely torque converter "Shutter" This is a huge problem on the 8L90, there is a GM (TSB # 19-NA-018) for this issue, they will first do a fluid exchange with updated fluid, reset the transmission adaption "Tap Cells" test drive the vehicle and see if it goes away, if not, it's most likely going to need to have the torque converter replaced. I suggest you start putting pressure on your dealer to fix it!

      If it’s the 8 speed transmission (8L90E) it should have the exact mobil 1 HP LV shown in the video. I’m fact, GM now Carries that fluid in their dealership. That’s my experience anyway. Many have said the mobil 1 Hp LV makes the difference from it not having torque converter shutter.

    Why would you not recommend a flush?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  4 роки тому +4

      First and foremost, shops don’t properly clean out machines. Not only from bad fluid, but when adding new fluid it will mix with other fluid and it must be specific to each vehicle if the vehicle before you used something else. Next, the systems used to flush use excessive pressure which can damage components in the transmission. Lastly, like on this yukon there is not a drain plug, so you need to drop the pan. You also see in this video the grime I had to physically wipe out. A flush won’t do that but will break it up and cause more problems. You also want to change the filter

      I have had two trans that were over heated and burnt the oil. The one I’m still using I had a flush done and then filter change and it drives normally now. Before the flush it would mess up shifts and all kinds of stuff. It’s been going on the new oil 2.5 years now and still fine.
