I would imagine that there has never been a better demo recording handed over to a recording company or a producer. How close it is to the final product is amazing.
It's a crying f'ng shame this band wasn't big when they were together. The power pop sound is what everyone needed at the time, which was a nod to bands like Queen and Supertramp. I wore this song out as a DJ in college and I had people hooked on it. I guess they were hooked up with a bad record label because they did a lousy job promoting it. Spilt Milk was an awesome album!
their record company actually promoted them pretty heavily on Bellybutton, yes, less so on Spilt Milk (probably because the band went WAY over budget making the album), but they still put out singles and made a couple of videos for Ghost and New Mistake, so saying they did a lousy job or were a bad label is a bit off the mark. Jellyfish was a great, great band but they were definitely some mistakes made along the way. They needed to either break big on the first album or stay together long enough to slowly build up a bigger following. They did neither.
between this and the album version, i really can't decide a favorite-- both of them are absolutely amazing jellyfish is just an incredible band all over, it's a shame they're not more known! spilt milk is one of my favorite albums of all time, there's really nothing like it
Not greatest, as they didnt get to accomplish much (although they did plenty in a short amount of time). But one of the best. Up there next to Lennon-McCartney and Partridge-Moulding.
@@thatguy5942 Well then what do you mean? In theory the greatest songwriting duo is Lennon-McCartney, no two ways about it. In terms of influence in history and culture and with the amount of album sales, they are objectively number one. But again, in terms of talent, I'd put these two and Partridge and Moulding of XTC right next to Lennon-McCartney.

I wish the horns were more audible in the album version. They really add to the glam rock feel of the song.

Wow...those organ stabs at the beginning are so different than what got laid down on the real thing. It almost makes it carnival-y.
they should've left that "Oh, No!" in the middle part in the final version. that's awesome.
damn... even the demo is amazing
i don’t know whether this one or the final version is better
greatest songwriting duo of all time.
Better than the guys in Greta Van Fleet?

@@chrischoir3594 bwahahaha!!!
@@PeanutSpring3 nope, the greatest. accomplishment has nothing to do with my comment.
