I absolutely adore those Sonic and Tails plushies, mostly because of how unique they look. For something that early, the Sonic one is astonishingly well done and accurate, it seems.
@@GmNdWtchr96 I think we have done on twitter a few times. I don't have any objections to collaborating with anyone, the only problem is collaborations with video is EXTREMELY hard due to tons of factors, mostly technical stuff which is why I've not asked anyone if they wanted to collab because I don't think the final product would be as good.
I love watching stuff about gaming in the 90’s, i was born in the early 2000’s so seeing how stuff was before i was born is really fun and interesting to watch
When I was a kid in the 90's I got a Sonic plush. up to this day I never found out what version/model it is (the etiquette was lost decades ago). For a moment there I thought that's the one you showed in the video! but there are many little details that proof that it's not the same one. huh! The search goes on! (or maybe it's a variation of those)
Was it slightly larger than the first one he showed, but had better stitching around the eyebrows and spines, giving more detail? If so, I had the same one!
@@MisterNeowl Mine is actually a tiny bot smaller if anything, and there is no stitching around the eyes at all. The dimensions of head and spikes are ever so slightly different on my one. And it seems the one in the video is way more 'furry' especially on the legs. As I said, many little details when I compare them directly. However when I look at the one in the video alone it might as well be the one I own. lol
Looks like I'll have to give you a free pr-r-r-r-romotion!!! For real, though, the content you do is great! Hopefully I'll get some of these 90s toys soon as they've been something I wanted to collect for a while.
Fun Fact: the modern Tomy is currently merged with Takara since the mid 2000s and the new merged company (TakaraTomy) is known just as Tomy outside of Japan due to that side being being well more known out here.
6:30 D6 batteries are probably more my enemy than anyone else's. When I was about 3, I got like, 3 of these things thrown at me when me and a friend were building a fort. He wanted them on top of the fort and I didn't. He would chuck them on to the blanket that was the roof, and I would hit them off. Needless to say, they hit me in the forehead and blood went EVERYWHERE. Ended up having to get stiches. Thank you Carter, hope that scared the living shit out of you seeing blood coat your bedroom floor. (Sorry about this being so long)
There was also a "display only" variant of the 90s Tomy Sonic plushie which was slightly larger than the standard retail one (first one you showed in this video with the Tails plush), and had stitching for details like sonics eyebrows and spines. I know 'cos I owned one! One day in the mid 90s I noticed it in the window of my local Toymaster, and noticed that it was considerably different to the plushies that were available in the store, so, being the bratty kid I was at the time, I ran to mum and dad. It took my parents a good half hour of negotiating with the manager to snag it, but it did become mine! Sadly I no longer own what I now know as a unique piece of merch, as I ended up trading it for an comission from one of my very talented, and equally Sonic-obsessed artist friends.
Sonic Mountain Quest totally should have been themed after Hill Top Zone instead of that weird checkerboard void dimension that didn't really look like anything from any of the games that were out at that point. Missed opportunity!
Thanks. I've been working on improving a lot of things around my channel, not just the videos themselves. Ended up watching and reading a few guides to make better video thumbnails, such as visual imagery placement, text placement, size etc. So hoping to get much better ones in the future.
Fun fact: i own the tails from the beginning of the video and he is in pretty good condition. And i gave him an American flag tie to make him more cool. And the American glasses don’t stand on him a lot but.
I have one of the Sega world ones but i didnt know they were rare, my uncle gave me a 1980s star wars set that reminded my of the satam forest, so i bought them for cheap with a tails
I'm extremely jealous of that AOSTH Robotnik PVC. I'm sure most of these toys were UK/Europe exclusives, since I've never seen them when Sonic merch started coming out. Come to think of it, all I remember having was a plush toy different from that one, it had 2 dimensional felt spikes, the Sonic 3 Happy Meal, and that little gum container which would have been awesome if the freaking nose didn't break off so easily. Then you had to go back to the store and get another one, and then its nose broke off. And then after 3 or 4 of them you just gave up and had a crap ton of noseless Sonic figures. Then they released one with a different, rubbery plastic for the nose, and it still broke off.
Those blind bag figures look legit amazing, I don't know if those were exclusive to the UK but state side little pvc figures like that were pretty common place for all sorts of franchises (most of which were Disney) but i've never seen any Sonic ones though. Kind of wish they would make little blind bag figures like those again. Thanks for sharing!
Tomy's Tails plush looks more like his Japanese design than American one since he's orange instead of brown, has bigger ears and a longer forelock so I don't get what you mean by "he's being based on the AoSTH design." The Sega World Sydney plush looks more based on the AoSTH design than this one, though none of them captured his US look better than the Caltoy one.
I used to pick most of my sonic merch up from THE ENTERTAINER toy store or bargain hunt at carboot sales! A lot I've never seen though I had the pinball machine and majority of toys and plushies :) somehow the battery in my smaller sonic teddy still works! U squeeze it's stomach and sonic shouts SEGGAAA! think I still have the tails wind-up toy but it's broken :(... Never owned an official knuckles toy until sonic adventure figures came out.
You can literally say, you have a Splats figure years before sonic mania. If they ask if you have a time machine you can tell them yes and they would probably believe you!
I really like this line. I only have the large Tails plush though. One day I’d like to get the large Sonic and smaller Sonic and Tails plushes as well as some of the figurines. (Also although it’s not mentioned here there is a small Tails plush. He’s probably like 9 inches and while the big 1993 plush of Tails looks more like the Japanese design the small 9 inch 1992 version looks more like Greg Martin’s version of Tails seen on the US/EU Sonic 2 and US Sonic 3 box art as well as the US/EU Game Gear and Master System art. But Greg Martin Tails doesn’t look too much like AOSTH and SATAM Tails.)
