- I purchased my Ratios from Baofeng Tech. They will warranty the radios for a year in the USA. My UV-82C's have been the best buy in amateur radios that I have found for commercial applications.
Thanks for your interesting evaluation of these little radios. Concerning FCC regs you will find Ham radio bands are for experimentation and enjoyment, not for business use as you stated. Hope you continue with this fascinating venture. When you earn that general or above ticket and start QSO's on the HF /SSB 500+ watt side you will find most Ham's will quickly point out another old FCC rule concerning language.
Solid plan. Yes, you are right about the FCC looking for big fish to fry instead of the lone radio operator they sometimes make an example out of. Doesnt sound like OCD to me, instead it sounds like a well thought out plan with gear that will last and made simple for the user.
Hi. What is the brand of antenna are you using with your Vx 7 ?
marcin michon
Its a Maldol MH-511 tri-band antenna. Its not recommended for field use, Its too stiff (Plastic guts to wind the wire for the bands), it will snap your SMA connector base if you're too rough with it. I only have it for the 6 meter band antenna in a smaller package for testing systems.
Thx . I 'm looking for short rubber duck antenna for urban purpose, such as repeters or simplex on short distance. Thats why I asked for brand and, thx for opinion of Maldol. Once I bought dual band, short, plastick antenna (fake Diamond SRH 805), I open it up, cut the wire, and made it only for 70 cm. I measured it, SWR showed 1,8 at 438.000 mhz. Surprisingly I'm very pleased with this little mono band antena right now.
you can get a GMRS licence from the FCC pretty easily. there is no test and the only fee is like $90 (not stated on the FCC website directly) and it lasts for 5 years.
Thanks for the video Is the nagoya 701 better than the stock baofeng UV82 antenna?
hello can i ask you to post how to set uv 82 to scan frequency. if so i will be glad to say thank you in advance
Can the UV-82C be used outside the ham bands? Can I use them on GMRS, FRS, 2M, 70CM?
What model is that multitool? Very nice one!
How are these holding up for ya? I'm incredibly torn between these or the Quansheng TG UV2... i dont really care too much about the part90 cert, although I probably should get it considering it will be for non-profit business use. Damn it, did I just answer my own question again?
Ah! I use a bag kept in the kit bag. Fact the charger/ spare batteries. All get zip locks with the bigger for the radio. That way the radio operator can work it with out opening the radio to rain or snow or dirt. . They are handy little critters.
Hi.uv-82 does have 2 ppt botton.when you press ptt on shoulder mic, which one is press on radio A or B?
ok in my state you do not need a licenc on FRS to talk on
brian v but the radio needs to be FCC certified, which these radios are not.
Great review ! May have to upgrade to this radio when I get a license. The cheaper model will use mainly as a scanner or back-up. Another good accessory is an ammo pouch, like for the M-16/AR-15 to hold the radio (per Nutnfancy). Thank you for the video ! tjl
The regular UV-82 is going for $27 Amazon Prime or 18.99 on e-bay if you wanna wait a couple of weeks....
Todd Hayslett cant find the at that price on ebay
The UV-82 has gone up in price.
Are you sure you are licensed? You don't know that FRS is Family and it's FREE?
+FNX 45 not at the wattage of these radios and the removable antenna....
Nice vid...I think my dad's is still charging.
***** When you say charging, the red light is on? If the light is green and red flashing then the battery is not in the cradle correctly. The slots in the charger and the groves in the radio have to fit together for it to charge. Trust me I did it wrong the first time. The light should be solid red when charging and solid green when charged. Flashing red and green when not in use....
I don't know I'm isolated...I'll ask him tomorrow, he said he got it unlocked today, something about finding offsets for a local repeater, and he is watching youtube vids on it. Thanks for the tip. There are a lot of HAMs in Thailand.
May I ask what is the range between those two?
+illuminatorix It's highly subjective to terrain. On a good day you can expect a few miles. hill top to hill top you can get long range. I've made 98 mile contacts from a 5000 foot ridge line but that's not common at all. UHF/VHF is largely line of sight.
May i ask if this one uses Motorola 2 Pin connector?
+Jakelol1980 Just saw that they use Kenwood pins.
Your video is confusing in places. You get on on thought, but then you loose track. The Baofeng's cannot be legally used on FRS/GMRS or even MURS due to being regulated by FCC Part 95. UV-82's et al are only for Part 90 regulated services. Ham radio operators can legally use these as their radios.
this that and, the other. .
shortwave is HF these are UHF/VHF..misleading to folks
its just not right to tell folks its ok to run more than the legal rf output on any band even the frs, frs is limited to 1/2 watt, you have some good ideas but wander around too much & please donate to chirp 73
i got one the other day over here in england, well made dont like the others very much i hate the torch but its on there or the silly dog whistle .. jeff ..
"I cut my teeth on this stuff"
Whats that mean?
+TexasPrepper86 Means he grew up around this and has been around it since he was young.
there is a USB driver for windows Vista and Windows 7 whic seems to work either 1 of the software's so make sure you get the right USB drivers
He cut his teeth on it but he doesn't know the difference between Shortwave and Anateur Radio?
I was thinking the same thing. Isn't shortwave 1.71 to 30 MHz in ITU Region 2 (North and South America...)
1.8 (160 meter radio amateur band start) to 30 MHz
2.3 (120 meter band start) to 30 MHz
2.3 (120 meter band start) to 26.1 MHz (11 meter band end)
Robert Reed, you are correct. The guy can't remember what to lock out, what's called what name. If he were a licensed ham, he would display his call sign. I think this guy operate outside the law on top of giving bad advice.
I would probably make a list of words I have trouble with and then practice that list. It would shorten the videos by 50 percent.
this guy sounds angry
These cannot be used on FRS legally PERIOD. FRS radios are limited to .5 (1/2) watt ERP with a fixed antenna and the radio has FRS printed on it.
+Rick McCombs There always gotta be that one guy thats gotta be a stiff ass. You trying to get your mustache brown again?
+Brady Walker I don't know what that means. I'm just telling you what the regulations are.
Smoking pot and jaywalking IS AGAINST THE LAW.
Thought y'all should know.....
walking down the street with an ice cream cone in your back pocket is illegal in NY...just thought id tell the laws to all o yooooouutuuuuube, cuz they care the most
I got your wife pregnant nigga...
How many areas going to have an FCC inspector in it to check type acceptance on your Radio? As for me, no I would not use them there because I have a Commercial License and an Extra class Amateur license, so no I would not do it, I have too much to loose.
no license will be allow this radio to be used on FRS
They got 3 versions it's the 82 82L and 82X
"this there and the other"? interesting English
i use FRS with these
(Reports to the FCC)
you can use frs it is the same as walkie talkies
robert gauthier not legally
***** yup
robert gauthier I would rather play it safe and not violate federal law...
Baofeng are very hit and miss (no quality control at all) on unboxing thy either work or thy don't ..very annoying IMO (same goes for the charger)
