  • ASUS tones things down with their latest gaming smartphone -- but it still packs all of the power mobile gamers would need. Does the ROG Phone 8 Pro still appeal to gamers even without the RGB everything? Or is the ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro just another mainstream gamer now? Let's find out in this look at what worked (and what didn't) with the ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro!

    The new toned-down gamer look is welcome, but the camera bump is just horrendous! Love the review!

      Yh I don't like Camera bumps in any phone, I try buying Phone Cases that eliminate the Camera Bump.

    Hey Joshua! Love your content style, mixing tea with tech! Can you please tell me what brewer are you using at 3:37 ? I'd love to have one, because I find the other brewing methods a bit fiddly. Thanks!

    11:38 Something interesting I noticed here after watching many reviews of the ROG 8 Pro phone... Many have commented on the seemingly odd placement of the bottom USB-C port (being off-centered), but at this timestamp in the video we can clearly see a potential benefit/purpose for that placement as the camera bump is not pressing against the controller's phone support bracket and the AniMe screen is not covered. The recently released ROG Tessen Mobile Controller has a similar build/layout to the mobile controller shown here, so it makes sense that they may have planned these products together. While the layout may not be the same for all mobile phone controllers, this does suggest a possible driver behind the design decision as ASUS does tend to market their ROG phone series with the intent of driving sales of their accessories.

    I'm actually getting torn if I'm gping for the 7 ultimate or this. I have been a samsung user gor years, with an occassional ROG phone here and there before - from the ROG 1 and 2. Then went back to Samsung. My gaming ecperience with Samsung has been "unsatisfactory" - as I game A LOT.
    Camera aside, is the ROG 8 Pro now a much more suitable daily driver after your review?

    I'm actually interested with seeing how expensive gaming phones like the ROG phone will do in the future now that the handheld gaming PC market is starting to gain traction.

    The selfie cutout would drive me crazy if I was frequently playing action games. Does it have touch sensitivity at least? ROG phone has lost its identity.

    My first smartfone was an ASUS . I bought it at the supermarket as one of those phones you needed to buy a new phone card every month . It was the same size and shape as the first iPhone . For a little phone it was really powerful . Im thinking of dumping Verizon because they don't have any ASUS phones .

    The Rog 8 is an improvement to combine everything together and imagine they do very good in the camera as well then they can be th king in their phones minus the dac which is found in sony and lg phones. The Rog 8 did throttle out of the box but asus had a recent update .316 and .318 that fixed that throttle.
    Camera: is a small improvement over my LG V60 which made the upgrade worth it, however the SELFIE camera was like meh.
    Performance: Of course the rog 8 is still the number 1 when it comes to performance and games since asus is well know to bring the most out of the snapdragon chips.
    Battery: is descent and great and upon watching many reviews it beats the s24 ultra anyways

    Well they certainly lost me with the less optimized experience for a gamer. Why would i buy this instead of the Iphone, which is good at gaming anyways lol?

    • @renaicirculation4143
      @renaicirculation4143 2 місяці тому

      The iphone overheats too much and no air triggers or gaming features this phone has. What do you mean not optimized experience for gamers? They only changed the design.

  • @jalcome4201
    @jalcome4201 2 місяці тому

    11:30 respectfully i think ure not playing the right games? Honkai Impact Part 2 (u may recognoise that company eh?) is incredibly high performance and usually only runs smoothly on PC. On mobile everyone currently expects it to be optimized for SD Gen3. Plenty other chinese games are in the same realm here. Star rail and Genshin... are not good benchmarks. They arent even benchmarks at all by being fps capped and whatnot lol. So yes, mobile games do push the boundaries, and its kinda sad that ive yet to find a english yt channel that has any knowledge in that area

    ASUS is crap on phones, The ROG 7 Ultimate is like a potato phone after update to Android 14. CODM can’t be played, the fps drops from 120 to 40-60 fps and we don’t have any answers from ASUS for nearly one month 😡

      @@george-bd5tw yeah thats the thing. I want the balance between performance and flagship features. Not really a hard mobile gamer but want the great battery life from RoG 8. Thank god they have great design this time instead of that stupid "gamer" design.

    In my opinion this phone is uglier than the Red Magic 9, so if I were a gamer with piles of cash I'd do for Nubia's offering. This phone is only good in a vaccum ! Also going for an 8gen2 flagship would be the smarter move, chances are you don't need the latest and greatest, most people don't even know that you can emulate Switch games and thus play Skyrim or the Witcher on a phone
    edit : heard you compare it the Red Magic 8 pro, the 9 is out already and costs $800 on giztop
