  • Yvon Chouinard, creator and owner of the sportswear giant Patagonia, which devotes much of its profit and energy to environmental causes, and sees the greening of capitalism as a core element of its mission.
Yvon Chouinard is remarkable blend of passionate environmentalist and reluctant businessman whose passion for rock climbing led him to create a number of products and techniques that are today standard practice in the sport. Chouinard, 74, is the founder of Patagonia-a sporting gear and clothing company committed to environmentally responsible business practices. Despite his success, Chouinard is a trenchant critic of capitalism who has at times rejected profits and “business sense” in favour of environmentally sound choices.
Chouinard was born in 1938 in Maine, and grew up in Southern California.

Chouinard is right, it's in culture (specifically the the consumers' culture) that power lies to drive positive change. So ask yourself, is our culture healthy and sufficiently dynamic to move us forward? Is our culture created by bottom up awareness (expanding consciousness) or mandated top down by an out of touch clique that after gazing at itself in the mirror far too long seems to have lost faith in humanity?
We need a few billion more Chouinards.

During and post -COVID pandemic, the uncertainty people sensed gave away to more excuses to accept lower quality in the products they made. This I experienced in the supply chains which supported the computer industry. The company I currently work for is losing money daily because of the management forgoing product quality standards. Sad but true. A few of us are trying to turn the quality issues around, encouraging ourselves to not give up.

I can't respect anyone who talks about protecting environment and then outsources its manufacturing in Asian countries, puts their logo on it, and then prices its products 10x for the bigger profit. How is even possible to have over 100 million dollars in profit of a billion dolar revenue if you are environmentally aware? You should serve if you claim that you love what you do, and not rake in big profits. Many people love what they do and none of them are millioners, let alone billioners.
