I break down the four face commanders and talk about the types of decks they lead for this new set including outlaws, casting your opponents' cards, storming off, and deserts.

pretty sure this is only the third card ever to care about casting three spells in a turn, and tapping to copy is huge for combos and methods of generating value. I think this commander's decks will be plenty different from existing decks, and it will make for a fairly unique combo piece in certain decks, especially decks that include white

I noticed that, if Stella had been Jeskai rather than Izzet, Thunder Junction Commander decks would have had the exact same color identities as the Fallout ones.

Olivia's effect looks like merfolk from wish
I'm new to the game, but isn't hakbal doing something similar but better?? Correct me if I'm wrong
@@pinguinoequatoriale much better. With hakbal, each combat phase every merfolk can explore for free. Then if you declare an attack with hakbal, you can either put a land from your hand or draw a card. With Olivia, your creatures must do combat damage (with hakbal they automatically explore the moment your battle phase begins, even if they don't attack). Then (with Olivia) you need at least 2 monsters to deal damage and have to pay 3 mana on top of that.
I am going for the Pre-Con with Olivia, Opulent Outlaw as the commander, I love to attack and I love making treasures and so this pre-con deck is perfect for me. Especially I can use extra combat steps for the deck.
Get yourself a Seize the Day. The Card has always performed well for me in Commander.
Wow, I'm happy I found this video, since I was actually thinking of building a deck around Hazezon. Guess I'll have to take a look at some stuff I could do with Yuma now
I think tibalt will always be the best cast opponents stuff commander you just have to load the deck with ramp.

Yuma looks interesting, and he definitely will give Haezon a run for his money, but I still think Haezon is better. He gives more bodies when a desert enters, he is a crucible of worlds (for deserts) on a body. The only thing I see that is valuable on Yuma as a commander is he avoids commander tax pretty easily, but I will hold judgement until I see the full precon. I’ve been wanting deserts to get support for a long time and this set/precon has my attention just for that.

I really felt like they missed the mark on Olivia
Honestly I would have preferred it if they would have just changed the text to it creates a treasure token for each instead of that. It could have a downside similar to something like you lose 2 life whenever you sacrifice a treasure or something to offset. Or something.
I really don't like that she doesn't care about vampires. Seriously, what part of her is at all relevant to any of her previous versions?
At least make the second ability only put counters on vampires. That way she would encourage you to find cards that were both vampires and outlaws.
@@seandun7083 I get what you're saying. However I don't think counters matters really fits this card. I do think this card should make more treasures and I think it should have a established way to dig deeper to find more vampires to make more treasures. Maybe it could have been something like something of a Lord effect. Maybe the vampires with +1 + 1 counters or some kind of counters would allow your vampires to make treasures. As this game progresses just plain old counters matters is too slow. But they definitely could have improved on this idea
@@seandun7083I wouldn't mind her having a vampire theme but that's not what they were going for in this set.
There's also the fact that they are going out of their way to avoid printing anything that could be considered a Mardu vampire commander outside of the OG Edgar.
@@MCC17011 but why bother making the card an Olivia if they aren't going to do a card that makes sense as Olivia? Tarkir didn't have a vampire sub theme either, but Sorin still made vampire tokens. Even just having the counter ability make then into vampires or something would tie it back to versions.
@@seandun7083 because this set is a mish-mash of characters from all over MTG. They wanted her in even though there's no room for a vampire theme, so this is the result. TBH there's a good chance they decided on Olivia before pinning down her abilities, and her design may be a victim to that. I wouldn't be shocked if her activated ability turned things into vampires, but was changed late to avoid competing with Edgar.

Lee might be fun to try out, Without swamp or plains I do not think building tribal for her would work but she looks pretty tailored for a spellslinging burn type deck, I don't have one of those yet and never played the like in commander, Will have to see what kinda card base it comes with

Stella can just win turn 2 in cedh decks. With the right mana rocks, cast her turn 1. Drop Ral Storm conduit turn 2 and cast a copy spell from you hand, copying it with stella. Bouncing the copies off eachother, win with Ral damage
... You don't need Stella for that. Ral does it on his own with his -2.
@seandun7083 you need to cast a spell first to copy, tho, gotta have something to copy with one of the abilities- I misspoke but yes it works between ral and Stella as long as you have a burn spell or something. Cast a copyable* spell from your hand
@@dovakev right, forgot you would need a valid target. I guess that does mean you would need Stella since the other instant or sorcery would trigger the -2.
Stella does also go infinite with Dramatic Reversal + and any tap ability.
I really liked party so im probably going to build outlaws just wish the colors were a bit different than party

Well, I'm usually never interested in precon decks since they're usually creature or combat focused but man Gonti's deck seems fun. Stealing my opponent's deck is definitely something i can get behind.

The only unique one is Yuma. I feel like the other commanders already have extremely recent and common abilities, especially the treasure tokens.

Love the flavor of white on Olivia. She and Edgar got married after all, only fitting she adds her new husband's color to her casting cost

Looking at Olivia, I can't help but feel that League did the whole gothic western vibe FAR better. I mean, all they really did here was give her a hat and boots.
It also just isn't an Olivia card. It doesn't care about vampires at all or share much of anything mechanically with her previous cards.
Nope Etali is the best commander for casting your opponents spells
as someone who has made both etalli and gix decks, gix is 10x better on a low budget but etali does get the win otherwise
With etali, you cast your opponents' cards only when you cast etali. With gonti, you cast your opponents' cards whenever any of your creatures deals damage. By that math, I'm pretty sure etali is not the best. Plus etali is mono colored 😅

God, I hate this 'lets put a cowboy hat on our bad guys' set. It feels like someone at hasbro has a specific fetish and told them to make a whole set based around it.
Nah, i think Hazezon brings way too much value off of playing deserts. I have a Hazezon deck and it is absurd hiw quickly you can build up an army of sand warriors to beat people down with.
Bro Hazezon is only 3 mana. The extra 5 MANA is way too much to make him worth it
Yeah but you’ll almost never pay that amount. It doesn’t seem crazy that you’re paying 3-5 mana each time you cast it since it can reduce the commander tax too.
costs 1 less for each land in your graveyard and the deck is about discarding lands
@@MTGReconI definitely misread the first line. Still a lot more than I'd like to spend. Its strength is probably gonna be hella dependent on how many good deserts are printed in Outlaws. Cuz if they're not good enough ppl might have to run a Lotta caves and other things that sac themselves. Land decks that revolve around losing your own lands kinda rub the the wrong way personally, though.
Even with commander tax, it's never gonna cost 8.
A deck built around that commander is going to have a steady stream of lands entering and leaving the Graveyard.
They have been progressively making Olivia less attractive through the sets she’s in.
Copies of spells do not add to the storm count.
The olivia one looks very... Boring.
These are all so mid compared to 99% of other commanders.

Not going to lie, i got most at the Gonti commander.
This entire set feels like WotC has given up and checked out from ever making anything unique. So glad I've quit buying their product.
