I have to say, aside of the "I can play any instrument" video wich are now very popular (and I hate because some of them are like self-promotion video) , the difference with this guy and the rest of them is: he takes his time and answer any technical question or anything about chords, it means, very generous to share his knowlege. thanks so much, you make the difference between "look how I play everything 'couse I'm a genius" and "look how I play and learn"
Thank you very much for saying that! I am happy to spread knowledge of how The Beatles played and recorded to anyone who wants to know more. Doing these full band cover videos allows me to gain further insight into how The Beatles (with George Martin) arranged their songs and how the engineers mixed them. With every video, I learn more about the recording process and can better explain to this great Beatles community here on UA-cam!
@paulnottherealmccartney8558 Are you a Paul-is-Dead believer? I've seen you on some other comments. If you believe Paul died in 1966 then you're my friend
Thanks for the responses Mattiboo!! On top of all that, great cover of Hello Goodbye! Glad I found your videos, you're the best I've seen as I'm sure you've heard time and again, I look forward to future releases!!
Glad to hear that you learned Ringo's amazing drum solo from me! He laid down a tight groove on this song and the drums solo is so elegantly crafted. Genius!
Terrific Job on this! You sound great! I'm jealous of your Epiphone Casino, it sounds terrific. I purchased one new, two years ago. I couldn't keep it in tune, and it sounded sickly depending where I played chords, or even a single note, mostly G string 2nd fret. The dealer did a neck adjustment, which helped, and I replaced the tuners. I figured it must have had a twist in the neck. Finally got rid of it.
Yeah, it happens, you can get a dud with any guitar manufacturer. I play a 1966 Jazzmaster, got it when I was 15. It still plays great, but it can use a re-fret at this point. When I dumped the Casino, I picked up a used Squier Classic Vibe Thinline, in near mint condition. I slapped a set of D'addario half round 10's, and adjusted the action, sounds full and has a bit of a jangle to it. So it all worked out. Looking forward to your other videos, Beatles are a wealth of music. Sunking2001 and I were lucky to grow up with all this great music.
Good that it all worked out! That's sweet that you play your original '66 Jazzmaster, you must have a lot of memories with a guitar like that! If you don't mind me asking, what color is it? I just looked up the Squier Classic Vibe Thinline and it looks to me like a very slick guitar! How are you liking the half wound strings? I have never tried them.
Yes, I certainly do have some great memories. We've been through a lot together, bands when I was a kid, gigs , great stuff. In answer to your question, my Jazzmaster is white with a matching white headstock. The neck is Maple/Rosewood fretboard, and has a White binding. I think in 1965 Fender was purchased by CBS. My guitar is not a "Pre-CBS" sort of a transition model I think, since CBS didn't just toss the parts on hand, they just kept building guitars with what they had. Instead of block inlays on the neck it has dots (Neck is dated Feb 13, 1966). I think they switched to block inlays shortly after. The Squier Classic Vibe Series is amazing, as one guy put it, they are just a decal away from being a Fender. The quality of these guitars blows me away. There are 3 Teles in the Classic Vibe line, the Custom, the Thinline (semi-hollow and light!), and the 50's. The neck on these are a modern C, kinda thin width wise, so it takes some time to get use to it. I love the Custom too, comes in Sunburst with double white binding on the body and a Rosewood Fretboard, so I have it on my list. Brand new they run $449, and if you scout around you can find them used. I got mine at a steal for $249. I really like the Half Rounds. On my Jazzmaster I play Flatwounds, 11's. Great for no scratchy noise sliding up and down the neck, and very slick and smooth. But mellow. The Half Rounds are 10's, D'addario EHR310. Has the benefit of no scratchy noise, and are brighter. Works great on the Tele...and PS....I was using them on that Casino too.
That Jazzmaster sounds like an awesome guitar! I love some of the matching headstock models Fender made in the 60s, and Jimi Hendrix played a matching headstock white Jazzmaster in 1966. :) Glad you like your Squier Classic Vibe! I'll have to try one out if I see one at a guitar store and see how they play. I've tried flatwounds on my Gretsch, but I didn't like the deadness of the strings and how hard they are to bend. I've actually never heard of half rounds until now, so I'll need to get some!
A big improvement on the original recorded drum sound, for me anyways. Your mix/production is un muffled and crisp sounding...especially the snare, ty for that. You are very talented, bravo !
+mattiboo hey I saw your revolution cover. Good Job on the cover it was awesome. P.S Where is the Hammond organ guitar part the Paul played on revolution
I don't know, all I know is that none can be heard anywhere on the recording or in the multitracks. I have not heard any stories about a Hammond being recorded on this song, but perhaps Paul recorded an organ track and then had it wiped when Nicky Hopkins added the Pianet. I don't know, but it's an idea!
Another great cover Mattiboo!! Love this one! Also were the Epiphone Casinos used for the studio recording of Hello Goodbye? I thought George used a Fender Stratocaster and Paul played his Rickenbacker 4001S-Bass along with a Steinway Baby Grand Piano(SBGP). John played a Hammond Organ and a SBGP as well. In the video however, George is playing his Casino while John plays his Martin D-28.
John played the Hammond organ and sang backing vocals. In an interview in 1980, John said that he played piano for the "Maori finale", but that claim is not likely accurate as the piano coda was present in the original takes with Paul on piano.
Yea, I'll do a guitar collection video sometime and some reviews on the guitars. I also have some other big things planned so follow my new Twitter for updates! twitter.com/realmattiboo
Hey, I love your videos, and I've learned a lot from them over the past couple of years - any chance you could re-upload some of them without the backing tracks so that they aren't blocked? Some examples are There's a Place Rhythm Guitar, Anna (Go to Him) Lead, and there are many others. Thanks, Ryan
No sampling! I turned the gain on my Vox AC15 to just over where breakup occurs with 3/4 treble and 1/4 bass. The part is double tracked, which contributes to the unique sound that is impossible to get with only one guitar!
Mattiboo, shouldn't Hello Goodbye be played with a 1964 Rickenbacker-4001S-LH Bass? Possibly with psychedelic colors painted over factory Fireglo finish?
Paul used his Hofner on the Hello Goodbye recording? I didn't know that. I thought after they stopped touring post-1966, Paul said he used his Rick Bass more often for studio recording due to it's heavier "bottom line". I know he used the Hofner a lot for the Let it Be & Abbey Road Lp's. But for some such as Hello Goodbye, he used his Hofner then?? Thanks for settin' me straight on that mattiboo.
What I meant was that you were originally correct, Paul used his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S on "Hello Goodbye". In fact, Paul did not use his Hofner on any recording in 1967. The only sighting of the Hofner in '67 was in the "Penny Lane" music video!
The Elitist definitely has slightly hotter pickups and a thinner neck. On the Elitist the neck meets the body at the 16th fret while on the Standard it meets at the 17th. The Standard has a slightly darker tone, but this could be due to the Orange Drop capacitors that replaced the old ones. The Standard that I'm using was made in 2001 in the Peerless factory in Korea. These Peerless guitars are generally considered to be of higher quality than the Standards they make now, meaning they are more like Elitists in terms of quality. Checking again, it seems that they raised the prices of the Elitist and may have lowered the prices of the Standards. I've played some of the current Epiphone Casino Standards in guitar stores and the Elitist is of much higher quality. As for if the Elitist is worth the more expensive price, it really depends on what you are looking for and how much you are willing to pay up for higher quality. Having said this, though, the Standard is a good guitar and value for its price!
No! I have only used the AC booster in my Sgt. Pepper (Reprise) and Fixing a Hole guitar covers. I am working on something that I believe will allow me to get very close to the Revolver/Sgt. Pepper guitar sound!
mattiboo what is it? Also are you using any compression? I always use pretty thick compression to try to emulate that studio Fairchild. So this tone is just the top boost of an AC15 with maxed and little bass?
The first question will be answered when I have the device working! ;) I use Waves' Puigchild compressor, which is a virtual copy of a real Fairchild. What you said were my amp settings for this video along with some post processing EQ. The double tracking of the guitars goes a long way to achieving this sound.

Also Mattiboo, didn't John play his Martin D-28 Acoustic on Hello Goodbye along with a quick strum on his custom-built prototype VOX guitar?
John played those guitars in the official music video and music video outtakes. In the studio, John didn't even play guitar on this song!
I know, I was just referring to the video. Also what did John play on recording if anything mattiboo?
John played the Hammond organ and sang backing vocals. In an interview in 1980, John said that he played piano for the "Maori finale", but that claim is not likely accurate as the piano coda was present in the original takes with Paul on piano.

You should try some muffling on ur snare, might give it a bit more punch
What type of casino is that
Epiphone Casino Elitist.
Matt - I see you have both the Casio Elitist and the Stock Casino (Lennon Style). How do they compare? Sound and feel? Is the Elitist $1,500 better?

A lot of the multitracks can be found on UA-cam by looking "isolated Beatles" and through other websites.
