yes sir it wiil keep that isolated from rottinjg i wil definatly use that advice in my 64 years i have never seen any body do that preventiive measures they call that
I hung a few axes. I still like to watch videos like this though. Just to see if people do some of the things I do. Maybe I need reassured 😂. You give very and good , clear instructions. I believe "hanging it proud " is the best way. I've done both. No need for a steel wedge on a proud hung handle. You can clearly see it's better imo. I kinda rounded mine on my Keen Kutter double bit . It's still proud though and looks good. I'm gonna stop using glue. I came to that decision the hard way. 😅
Heck yeah man that’s awesome !!! Good luck I can’t wait to hear how you like it !! I tell you what I mostly only use a single bit, but there is something truly special and rewarding about using a vintage double bit !!
Heck yeah man, that is a sweet pattern! I can only ever find Michigan doubles around here. Always wanted a western or a reversible pattern double. All of your methods look solid👍👍. I considered getting some of those whiskey River double bit handles, but the shipping rates are insane right now. I got a cruiser handle from them and the grain was unbeatable. Really good quality hickory. They have a nice selection of wedges too! Hope you have a merry Christmas and happy new year!!🎄🎁
Thank you so much h Codi !! Yeah same here I feel like anytime I’m at yard sale or flea market I always seem the same sorta run of the mill typical looking double bits, so when I came across this I knew I had to pick it up !! Yeah man I agree shipping everywhere is getting expensive, but you just can’t beat the quality of these handles !! Merry Christmas and happy new year to you as well man !! 🤙
Hey Wayne !! Thank you so much and my brother was behind the camera, he came up to visit for Christmas and I already put him to work 😂😂 !! I’m hoping we get some decent weather while he’s up in Pennsylvania so we can do some good ole brotherly chopping together 👍
Hey Joey! Just stumbled on to your channel! I love your creepy basement! NICE hang! Great tutorial! Beautiful DB axe! I too, believe in oiling the top part of the handle and wedge, before hanging! Another thought I've had, but (have not) tried, is AFTER the hang, SOAKING the entire head in flaxseed (or linseed) oil, for a day or so, so it will completely absorb to saturation! Have you heard of this, or tried it? As for finishes, instead of BLO, I do like using the food grade flaxseed, as it is the same as BLO, (without) the drying agents! It doesn't dry as fast, but leaves a GREAT polymerization finish! Sometimes I will WARM the handle with a hair dryer to open wood pores, then apply....then heat again, after application to thin viscosity a little, allowing for more absorption...EXCELLENT results achieved! Thank you for sharing this with us! SUBBED! Greetings from the PNW 🇺🇸 🪓🌲🪓🌲🪓🌲🪓🌲
Thank you so much for watching and thank you for the kind words !!! Yessss oiling the eye wood for the win !!! I use BLO sometimes and sometimes I use just regular ole natural linseed oil without drying agents. After using both plenty of times, I seem to prefer the natural linseed oil over the BLO. I have heard of people soaking the entire head for a day after hanging. I haven’t tried this method yet, but I would love to give it a shot for science to see if it’s any different 👍 thank you so much again for watching, commenting, and subscribing I really appreciate it !! 🤙
