    After I finished all paths in Ever 17 I told myself I would get a piano one day and play the entire Karma piece. Some time ago I finally got a keyboard and a couple of months ago I managed to play the entire song. What a feeling... I've never played the piano before, nor was I so interested in piano music, but this VN had such an effect on my mind...And that song, along with Tsugumi's screaming from inside that "you know what"(no spoilers)...Words are just not enough for this.

    I'm terrified that this VN was released the year I was born... and that this video was made when I was a toddler... This VN gives such a nostalgic vibe too...
    I gotta say, it's crazy that this VN is a year from its 20 year anniversary...

    • @donotreply8979

      Why terrified? It's just your age. And 6 years old is not a toddler.

      Well, I got another response to an old comment of mine stating or questioning my previous feelings which may or may not have changed... This is getting quite amusing...

    Ever 17 is a great story that, in all honesty, would be difficult to pull off in any format outside of a visual novel. It's well-written (Although it has a few translation hiccups ) and keeps you guessing through all of the scenarios. It's hard to describe without spoiling the entire game, but the greatest part of the game is how well all the disparate story lines manage to mesh together in the final scenario.
    It's a game that once you start playing, you will want to see it through to the end.

    You are a great reviewer. I like that you don't try too hard to be funny and end up being laughed at, nor do you go on tangents. You're informative and to the point. I will check out your other reviews.

    If this company was still in business I'd pay $100 for this game. Since they're totally gone, I found a working torrent and got it working after some work. This game is amazing. Pretty much the best VN ever, in my opinion. And yes, some endings had my crying like crazy.

    I had no idea what I was in for when I started to play this game.
    Easily one of the most intellectual games and most interesting storylines I've ever seen...this 'game' is a source of inspiration for me.

    This was a great game! I had no idea how deep the story was untill i got on coco's path. All i have to say to anyone who likes anime or visual novels.... get this!!!! It is great! Also its not a dirty visual novel which is hard to find, and to find a good non dirty visual novel.... well thats even harder.

    It's a shame that this isn't being made anymore. I'm sure this would've made a huge profit if they would've just let it sell longer. This game is epic. EPIC. LOVE IT. Amazing Job with the review. I agree entirely with it. It's just that damn good. Too bad they didn't translate the Infinity Series of visual novels. I wanted to read them all... Too bad the makers of the game went bankrupt... WHY!!!? T>T

    @SoSiization I was referring to the character. She doesn't appear to 'exist' in the Kid's route, much how Sara doesn't in Takeshi's. It's oversimplifying, yes, but that's how it initially appears. =P

    That’s not necessarily true. I’ve read Ever17 because I’ve heard how similar it was to VLR, and even though I could’ve seen some of the plot twists coming, I’ve enjoyed the finale perhaps even more than I did in VLR.

  • @crazymaysunrise
    @crazymaysunrise 13 років тому

    @Maverynthia But part of the main story plot is the romance. I mean...Takeshi is a major protagonist, but I did not necessarily see him sacrificing himself for just anyone. Likewise, The Kid and You was a sort of...I'm not sure how to explain it, but I found it to make sense. If you didn't like the romance, then did you enjoy the Kid+Sara ending? Or the Kid+Tsugumi+Sara? If you take the romance out of this plot, you don't even have a plot because two characters aren't even conceived without it.

  • @Globlight18

    Actually, it looks like I was misinformed on this. The sites that I'd seen it listed at apparently don't have it in stock, but merely haven't removed it from their product pages. Apologies, and good luck in your search!

    Just finished it... excellent puzzling story, loads of things that make you think, great graphics and ending to reward you for hours of gameplay!
    And none of the adult scenes so prevalent in visual novels, so you can play it regardless of age...

    @MrFate888 Id say thats true, VNs arent for everyone, however if this was written as just a novel using the "True" arc, the story itself is better than most actual novels out there in my opinion. Especially the ones regarded as the "best" nowadays. But thats just my opinion. It differs for each person.

  • @PhantomZwei
    @PhantomZwei  14 років тому

    @MrFate888 Ever 17 isn't perfect, but you have to consider the medium. Yes, there are certainly better traditional novels out there, but as far as visual novels that can be found available in english, Ever 17 is undoubtedly one of the best. Like you say, it's important to temper your expectations, but bear in mind this review is self-contained within the visual novel category, and not intended to compare it to traditional novels. That said, thanks for your input for those that might be curious.

    Its officially 60 hours long.
    You have two characters to pick from, 5 paths to go through, and 12 endings to see.
    Final arc (aka Coco's path) alone takes 10 hours. And not a second feels wasted.

    I don't see how many people say its a boy's game. Honestly, not to be evil towards boys cuz I know there are exceptions lol, but most guys don't care about romances in games and stories o.o. It's really a girl's thing and honestly the romance is actually good! I've seen lots of movies where romance is the entire genre..but it seems so fake..for this game the romance seemed pure and took notice of each girl's story and history, and overall a great game and was a great buy

    I got this game a while back and I imagine I will dive into it at some point in the near future, but I've been wondering. How many different endings are there? This one guy said that there's twelve in total, is that true? And if I am to get all of the pieces of the story, will I want to complete ALL of the non-main endings (good and bad) before heading towards the true ending with Yagami?

    I've noticed that as well funnily enough, G-senjou no Maou might be the exception (and ever so slightly MLA). It's not that weird when you think about it though, as a VN with zero eroge is most likely one focused completely on the story, and ultimately that's what people will remember a VN for and give the highest ratings.

    @ranma5 Check out Swan Song. I will warn you that there is a small bit of hentai, and it deals with rape and murder at various points, but it handles it pretty well. Most graphic things are only described instead of shown, so it's not disturbing. The art and plot are both great. I just started Ever 17, but if you like the idea of a few people trying to survive on their own, Swan Song might appeal to you.

    @PhantomZwei Ah. So you played it already I see. Yes, it was disappointing. However, you have to admit, the lead up was amazing. It could have been as amazing as Ever 17. There were so many great mysteries that had been set-up. I'm currently playing the Nintendo DS game "999" by the same creator. It was recently released in the U.S. Have you checked that one out yet?

    @number0IX I think it's great. I don't have enough info to be able to say what I like or dislike about it, but as one of, if not my very favorite VN of all time I'm all for a remake of it. At the very least I hope to get ahold of the OST for the remake after it's released. Even I'm not so fanatical as to buy the game itself without a translation, though...and I of course realize that will never happen.

  • @Boltothemage
    @Boltothemage 11 років тому

    That's because the Extreme Escape series was made as a spiritual sequel to the Infinity series since the rights to the series had been lost.
    Also, I would hardly call Ever 17 flawless. It had a better ending than 999, but you'd be kidding yourself if you said that they journey in Ever 17 was better than the journey in 999. Even most Ever 17 fans will tell you that the only legitimately good routes are Tsugumi's and Coco's. I'd give it an 9/10 at best. Probably closer to an 8/10.

    I wish they didn't. because I have to rely on DVD player to play this. I don't have a Windows PC and instead have a Mac Apple.

    @crazymaysunrise Well. being forced to date won of the women in the game does kill it for me as it's a distraction to the main story plot. It's something they didn't really need to add to get the story across. Like how in some action movies they cram romance into it for no reason.
