Hi, just found your channel. I used to live in Dgo, and I noticed no snow in your post. I bet fire danger is just around the corner. You should try the Piedra River. Not a winter river but really beautiful. Its best to drive up to Horse Creek and drop down to the river via the trail. Big Stones in early summer.
Thanks for the info, this spring/summer I plan on hitting more places for sure. I’ve done the black canyon, San Juan, And Dolores so far on my channel. Just tend to do Animas and San Juan more often because it’s easier for me with driving distance. But yes I’ll try out the Piedra for sure! Love stone fly hatches! Used to fish a lot of stone fly patterns up in northern CA when I lived there
Glad you're able to fish again, it always feels great to be back on the water after a break. And that "little" brown is still bigger than any I've ever caught on the fly!
Yeah it was awesome being back. I am going next week again, and video should be out a week or so after, I hope to get something larger. The animas has quite a bit of fish over 20" and some over 30". Hoping to get a good one. I plan on going back to the Animas. Also, I just got a new little 2wt rod for when the ice melts in the small streams near my house. I hope to go fishing one of those soon, just I have to wait a bit till that ice is gone, and I am feeling good enough to hike 2-4 miles into the back country. But I do plan on doing it soon. I suspect I will have some awesome vids coming soon! The fishing will get much better in the coming months also around here.
McFly Angler wow, I'll have to try my luck on the Animas sometime, I didn't know it held such large fish! As for the 2wt, I can't wait to see it in action! Small stream fishing is the best!
good to see u back in the game hope u get a full recovery! As for the sling pack i use the same type sack(orvis) for seatrout fishing in norway but i usaly sling it the other way , its easyer.
To get this footage I’ve got a camera! Haha! I can’t really fully unplug. And I’ve got kids man, need to be able to be reached Incase there is an emergency. But yes, I hear ya. Unplugging would be nice... when my kids grow older and I can retire, then maybe. Haha
Good to see you recovered and back on the water. Ya pretty much dodged a bullet that first time around my friend. Be careful out there. BTW I could be very satisfied catching nothing larger than Browns that size. I'd do that all day.
Yeah man, I’m careful. Watch that video on my surgery I made a few weeks back. I’m all about covering up now. Just the damage has been done, and when I was a kid I didn’t pay attention to it. Oh well. Hopefully I don’t get more cancer! Haha. In the mean time though, while I’m still here, I’m gonna do more fishing! Lol. And yeah, I wasn’t too disappointed in that fish, especially since it was on a 3wt. Made it fun! Just I know there are much larger ones out there. I’m going later this week, and gonna search for the big boys! Haha
McFly Angler Yeah, I saw the aftermath of the surgery. Not pretty but a very good warning to anglers everywhere who spend all day on the water without adequate sun protection. BTW, I'm heading for Utah April 12 in search of a trophy Brown, Rainbow and Tiger each over 24". I've never hit those marks before but I think I have the right water and some expert advice so now I just need to get it done. Hope to see more fishing and tying videos Angler, always enjoyable.
9th st bridge, just in front of it. Approch from the west side and drop your nymphs in the hole next to the path. If the current is swift use more weight.
Wait, sorry my friend didnt come with me this trip. Ok so its a custom made fly rod. Its an Xi 10' 3wt blank where I got it from the Hook and Hackle, and the rod was custom wrapped and put together by midwest custom fly rods.
Get it man!! glad to see you back out there.
Thanks, yeah I’m happy to be back

Lucky you man! Send me pics of your fish! I will be in the middle of a move at that point and wishing I was there with ya! Haha.

Yeah there are a lot of decent spots on the Animas for sure.
What permit do I need to fish the river?
Colorado fishing license
You actually answered the phone?
Yes, my mother was watching the kids and I was making sure everything was ok... being a good parent is more important than catching a fish. Haha
What size of tippet material do you usually use on all your outings?
Depends on where and what fly. Most of the time I’m within 4x-6x though
thank you for the info
No problem
What waders do you use?
Simms... I think the model is freestone. But I could be wrong. I’ve had them for 4-5 years and never got a hole
What fly rod is he using
Me? Or my friend?
