" Someone might say oh, this isn't your voice or this isn't authentic to you" ... That thought actually filled me with a surprising amount of anger. Yes, people do sometimes say that, but no one but you ever has the right to decide what is or isn't authentic. THEY ARE NOT YOU. Only you are. No one else has a right to say that about anyone other than themselves. Beyond that, you are absolutely right. Art, to me, is an expression of the self. It's supposed to come from you and from the heart and so many people have... lost that due to social media expectation. This did include me for a long while. It became... "wrong" to do that almost. Even you yourself referred to it as drawing "selfishly". Selfishness is where you are going to do something YOU KNOW will hurt or harm someone else and you do not care. The societal definition is now just doing something FOR yourself. Drawing for yourself isn't selfish, it's what you should be doing.
