We watch this from the comfort of home, but these people have dedicated their lives and even risked them, to bring this stuff to the world. That's some incredible work, when a timelapse pays off its just so incredible because we move through time in a constant and to see the effects of the passage of time condensed before our eyes is like a glimpse into another world.
Or maybe what traveling to the future might look like seeing time past before your eyes in a condensed time

This remains one of my favorite nature documentary clips of all time. The first time I saw it, I was home sick for the day…and in my weakened state, it affected me even more than it might’ve otherwise. It’s just such a perfect glimpse into a natural world that’s completely obscured by our senses and our perception of time. Every once in a while, this comes to mind and I rewatch it.
I’m incredibly amazed with her passion to be able to tell this story for 10 minutes without much “umm..” i feel like I’m diving together just by listening to her. She retells the story amazingly
It's so weird to see sped up film of starfish.. in real time they just, do nothing.. but then you see them moving around like actual normal creatures.
That’s probably what we look like to dragonflies…just these ridiculous, huge, practically immobile creatures. It’s interesting to consider the perception of time and “normal activity” across the animal kingdom. A day is an entire lifetime to some species yet there are fungal networks that have existed for thousands and thousands of years.
@@manifestgtr What an excellent point about the dragonfly. When we add things like the quantum world into the equasion, discussing such things as the perception of time across varied species becomes riveting. It always makes me think about how time is different on other planets, and even in our own atmosphere, and what that really means.

I agree, in general British documentaries are best in my opinion.
Don't talk unless you are David Attenborough, or something similar. We expect an upper class meal in a luxurious restaurant, you serve a dollar meal.
Yes this is true but the fact they also use the stealth tax from the license fee to promote and fund Tory party politics elsewhere in the Corporation does take the shine off of it for some.

@@mokarokas-1727 yeah, like insects and fish. they have antifreeze in their blood and they can slow their metabolism right down. eventually they die but can stay frozen a long long time
@@susanb4816 Wikipedia says "Any bottom-dwelling sea creatures, including starfish or sea urchins can be encased in this expanding web of ice and be trapped, ultimately freezing to death." No source is given though.
@@mokarokas-1727 no they don't.. they freeze and die. There are only a few creatures who can freeze and revive themselves after the winter season.. bottom-dwelling sea creatures cannot survive freezing, they can survive strong cold temperature but not frozen

Why thank the tax payers? What did they do? Either they’re homeless or in jail if they don’t pay and it’s not like they had the antarctic ocean floor discoveries on their mind when buying what have you.

Wow… that really was truly amazing to see… thank you to the divers, producers and everyone who participated in this extremely difficult project.
Amazing footage. I so appreciate all of the hard work n knowledge that goes into making a recording like this. The risk has gotta be tremendous in that water. Just the thought of going through that small hole down into such frigid waters is awesome in the true sense of the word.

I can't put into words the amazement I feel when I watch these kind of videos/documentaries because there will always be a moment where the thought comes to my mind, that how unbelievable it is, that we live in a time where we can witness these things any time if we wish to through the hard work of some spectacular humans who wanted to film it for the rest of humanity to see.

At the time, this was one of the most awesome things I'd ever seen. I've used this effect in stories since. I love the idea of Antarctica, and going and researching there, just for the sheer wonder of it. I hope the lady there and her crew know that they deeply inspired at least one other human being with their work. I'm a little envious, but I'm also very grateful.
