- Playboi Carti has made a name for himself as one of the best dressed rappers, and in this video we'll look at how his style has changed over the years. In his early years he drew inspiration from Tyler Creator and the Odd Future crew, he then found his love for streetwear with Supreme and Jordans, met Ian Connor and the A$AP Mob, and became one of the faces of A$AP Bari’s VLONE. Not long after he began experimenting with higher end brands like Rick Owens and Raf Simons, he modeled for Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton and Off-White, and in the lead up to his album Whole Lotta Red he stepped things up and started putting together some of his best fits ever. This is the style evolution of Playboi Carti.

A few words on this topic: 2015 era Carti was exclusviley styled and given pieces by Ian Conner because Carti wasn't getting enough money at that time, in the No Jumper interview featuring Ian and Shane Gonzalez Ian claims that he gives carti "Old Margiela, Supreme, Raf, shit he raps about" tons of the hyped up pieces Carti was wearing to catch eyes of the masses were being provided by Ian even the famous supreme motion tee Carti wore in Broke Boi was put on sale on Grailed by Ian Conner himself. Also, a touch on Carti's punk evolution, I can say that there is a high chance that Shane Gonzalez (Owner of Midnight Studios and friend of Carti and affliates.) impacted his switch into the Punk aesthetic, Shane is a punk item collector who just like Ian Conner shared and styled pieces for Carti to wear, Old punk tee shirts he wore were provided by him, all the clothes in the self tilted shoot were provided by him, along with the famous vivienne westwood seditionaries shirt on the cover of self titled belonged to Shane Gonzales (He is also nowadays seen as one of Carti's backup dancers and creative director). It is also said that when he first started drifting away from the Asap mob crew that Bloody Osiris started styling him, when he started drifting away from the MOB he probably went in and looked for his own personal style and this is were he probably met Paris House, she uses to work at Barneys but after Barneys died she began to work at the Rick Owens store in New York, she and Carti began a relationship were she would plug him into exclusive and early Rick pieces. As for the future of Carti's style I'm going to assume Matthew Williams will play a bigger role, he claimed in an interview that old punk bands had clothes for them by Vivienne Westwood and Carti himself had Matthew Williams, his recent photo is all of the new Givenchy Collection from Matthew Williams. Just wanted to speak on random shit that I felt added to this topic.

@@Threaducation Yep, Matthew and Carti claimed that their eachothers muses, wonder if when Carti goes on tour if he is going to have custom made givenchy outfits similar to how The Weeknd had one for the super bowl (Probably not on that large of a scale since the suit was like 45 pounds of weight) and how Kanye used to dress for the Yeezus tour with the Margiela masks and shit when Matthew was rolling around with Ye and the rest of the Kanye boys, Matthew was also Lady Gagas old creative Director and she had some great fits with him.

Deadass, i was looking at the self titled cover today (i never really paid attention to every detail) his “destroy” shirt was fucking hard asl and the way the cover is a “twin” picture makes the aesthetic unmatched

Carti’s influence on fashion is unprecedented. He’s literally popularized rick owens into a newr mainstream sense. Rick is very close to becoming the new streetwear imo.

This video is a good summarized story on Carti’s style. I just feel like he brushed over streetwear and generalized it as the “odd future” style. There’s history behind streetwear and it deserves more respect since it’s the foundation to mostly everyone whose into fashion.

I was literally talking about this with my friend he is way ahead of his time he was rapping about chrome hearts way before it’s recent blow I wish you expanded more on some other fits but 2018 definitely my favorite year for carti fits the more baggy look and especially that fit he wore in get dripped like wtf
I still chuckle everytime I remember Matthew said once that he is Carti's lost twin. I see too many similarity with Carti's WLR era and Ye's Yeezus which Carti with Givenchy and Rick so did Kanye with Margiela and his own Yeezy line.

I wish you would’ve talked more about his style in 2018 as it was a really cool transition era for him. I feel like he took the blend of streetwear and high fashion even farther than 2017 with fits from the Cancun and Get Dripped videos. Still loved the video though keep it up
