Parenting - Building Willpower in Children

- How do we raise children who are poised to handle the challenges of our world? Parents often have questions on how to equip their children with the right skills for life. One way is to help them build willpower from the get-go.
If you allow a child to build their willpower, they will thank you later. Because, when you say nothing to a child and continue to give in, it is based on the assumption that the child knows what is good for them - which is not always the case. Overall, as a human race, we are known to constantly seek instant gratification. Adults struggle with it too. If with all the wisdom, experience and suffering, adults find it hard to control a simple basic tendency, how can we expect children to do this easily? Sometimes in the name of discipline, parents can be too hard on their children. Being flexible in parenting goes a long way. Children are keen observers, if they see members in the family behave a certain way and end up getting their way, they would exhibit the same behavior. Never make the mistake of thinking you are raising your kids, instead - they are raising you, we end up learning a lot from our children.

Very amazing tips on parenting. Alas I could know these while raising my only child, who is a wonderful young man now despite my flawed endeavours to discipline him when he was growing.
