  • My neighbor asked me to till his old garden plot. I took the opportunity to let him run the tractor so I could record the action. It was the first time he'd ever been on the JD X530, so he had a small learning curve to negotiate. You'll notice I didn't have the front suitcase weights on. It was very level ground. We didn't need them. The John Deere X530 with the 42" hydraulic tiller will dig up anything.

I like the speed you're going. I see so many people blazing the pass with clumpy results.

Now that's a damn tiller. Most videos show junk tillering in sandy soil. We have red clay where I stays at.

First time I've seen a rototiller on a garden tractor that runs on hydraulics. Very nice. Will it dig hard pan ground that has never been broken? That patch looks like maybe it was tilled before. Thanks.

      Hi,
Yes, it will dig right through the shale. This tiller can be oriented to face 2 different directions. One way the tiller is pushing the tractor, so it doesn't really dig. It leaves a really nice surface. This is best for previously tilled soil.
The other direction the tiller is pulling the tractor backwards. This, of course, causes the tiller to go down or dig. She'll go about 7 inches deep.
You are correct. This area was an old abandoned garden. It hadn't been tilled for 4 or 5 years, but it was easy work for this tiller.

these hydraulic tillers are absolute rubbish! They can only till ground that has already been tilled/broken up, by a far more capable machine! And look how the tiller gets jolted around up down left right when exposed to any minor resistance in the already broken soil. Worthless! And these tractors have so much HP, too, where the heck does it all go? Definitely not into the tiller..

John Craftenworth By the way,Deere tests these tillers out in SOD,as in UNTILLED soil and they work just fine.My neighbor has one of these hydraulic driven tillers on the back of his X-540 Deere,we have YELLOW CLAY in this area in the rust belt and I watched him till up a 200'ft.by 200'ft.area with ease using the 42"inch hydro tiller.

Look at John's page all he has is junk case tractor but he has an opinion for a tiller that kicks ass

It's a toy, a grass cutter. The best tiller and I've got two, a Honda F510 and a BCS 710 tear tine tiller, is the BCS, 8.4HP straight to the tines, it will dig concrete up never mind virgin ground, no bouncing around, never misses a beat, BCS are the best on test 👍

@@richardburns5925 yes I bought both honda and bcs to have extra widths without changing tools, and I like them both a whole lot can't beat em
