I’m ashamed to say I took out my annoyance on him before he had chance to speak. He then started to speak with a bad stutter and to my shame I just walked on. I’d given money to a con artist that could and should have gone to a deserving case and all these years later it still bothers me.

Today the road is mainly occupied by middle eastern cuisine , coffee shops, shisha bars and dessert places. Larger communities of Iraqis, Kurds, Afghans, Turks, Lebonese, Libyans, Iranians, Somalis have moved in while the south Asian diaspora have moved onto other areas.
Still traditionally Manchesters Rusholme has always been known for Indian /Pakistani food, nothing wrong with a few variations, but the tradition should be maintained.

Been going to the "SANAM" for probably 30+ years, first time with family at around thirteen. I love that mile, I used to drive busses through there for years, H23, 42's, 157's, etc. Great grocer at the end going towards "owners park" would not take any money off me for the odd apple, orange to eat at Parrswood, Woodford etc. Notice how nobody came and hassled you about filming? Don't be afraid to have a meal there, their hospitality is second to non. Like I said, lovely place, with kindhearted people. 👍😎👍m-E-m

I agree, probably more like 30 years ago it was good. When it was mostly restaurants that were for families and welcoming to all. Now it's mostly a playground for unpleasant youths in performance cars, hanging around up to no good, and homeless waifs and strays and drug users. Even MyLahores which is quite modern and welcoming at the Bradford and Leeds branches has a judgemental atmosphere about it. Still the odd good small place like Saajan, Lal Qila Express, Al Madina if you want fairly authentic Pakistani dishes like Karahi or Haleem. But Mazaa in Longsight is better, cleaner and a nicer atmosphere. Kabana and Lahori Kebabish on Cheetham Hill road good also, Abdul's in Fallowfield, and This and That still has that unique canteen style food. Actual proper Restaurants I wouldn't expect any of them to be particularly good these days, like China town, the owners realised they can serve anything. Royal Naz in early 90s was lovely, but the owner was sadly a dodgey guy and I think he still runs one of the places on the mile.

I’ve only eaten in 2 curry mile restaurants. Both pretty poor. One served a lamb shank that was cold in the middle (obviously cooked earlier and just defrosted), the other a mediocre burger. Maybe I asked for the wrong things. The barbers are great though, cheap and give a good haircut. Lots of homeless, lots of litter
