I miss this era of FoB so much, they have other great albums, but the nostalgia for Take this to your grave and From under the cork tree is really strong for me
Riot! Is my absolute favorite Paramore album, because of most of the songwriting, the power in Hayley’s voice, and also, it has I think some of the best produced drums that I’ve ever heard in my life
Compared to other lists you've gone over in the past, this one is actually pretty solid. It captures many different eras of the genre's history while giving some lesser-known albums and bands some credit. "Brand New Eyes" by Paramore and "Nimrod" by Green Day still don't get the credit they deserve though.
Agreed. Brand New Eyes is easily my favorite album they did due to my favorite songs being there and Nimrod has grown on me lately. Also, as a person who also enjoys watching hockey highlights, I was surprised to see you here as well, haha. Hope the Flyers can squeeze into the playoffs since my team is in a different division now and I have soft spot for Philadelphia for some reason (although when it comes to hockey there's not really many teams I dislike that strongly.)
Yeah, Brand New Eyes is by far the best Paramore pop punk album. But all of these lists are going to include Riot! over it since it was their breakout album and because it had Misery Business on it.
@@JaretVincent That's true. If you look at any list ranking the best pop punk or emo albums, they always pick "Riot!" over "Brand New Eyes". I love every single Paramore album, but "Brand New Eyes" is definitely my favorite. Every single song on that album is awesome. It's one of the best rock albums of the 21st century in my opinion as a huge Paramore fan.
Some of my favorite Pop Punk albums Infintiy On High - Fall Out Boy Dookie - Green Day American Idiot - Green Day 21st Century Breakdown - Green Day Riot - Paramore The Best Damn Thing - Avril Lavigne (If it counts as Pop Punk on a few songs: Girlfriend, Hot, Runaway, etc.) - Enema Of The State - Blink 1-82
It's absurd that have not heard of Millencolin and consider it 'obscure'. They've consistently put out fantastic albums over the past 20 years, and probably turned alot of people onto the pop-punk/skate-punk genre with their track No Cigar which was featured on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.
I hope Sugarcult, The Ataris and Zebrahead made it to the list. Edit: my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. At least seeing Midtown and The Bouncing Souls here was a pleasant surprise. Here’s some underrated pop punk albums worth checking out: Gob - The World According To Gob (2001), Foot In Mouth Disease (2003) Bowling For Soup - Drunk Enough To Dance (2002), A Hangover You Don’t Deserve (2004), The Great Burrito Extortion Case (2006) Damone - From The Attic (2003) SR-71 - Now You See Inside (2000) Allister - Last Stop Suburbia (2002) Rufio - Perhaps, I Suppose (2001), MCMLXXXV (2003) Treble Charger - Wide Awake Bored (2000), Detox (2002) Diffuser - Making The Grade (2003) Not By Choice - Maybe One Day (2002) Wakefield - American Made (2003) Mest - Destination Unknown (2001) Home Grown - That’s Business (1995), Kings Of Pop (2002) Fenix TX - Fenix TX (1999) Cauterize - So Far From Real (2003) Count The Stars - Never Be Taken Alive (2003) A - Hi-Fi Serious (2002) Amber Pacific - The Young And The Hopeless (2005)
Lagwagon are true pop-punk vets! I'd say "Let's Talk About Feelings" or "Resolve" are probably their more accessible albums- If you want a tear jerker check out the song "Sad Astronaut" if you want to hear their biggest hit check "May 16"
Short and sweet but I'm happy with what you said about Saves The Day. Glad you think they are underrated and didn't have a problem with them being high on the list. Would love to hear you do an album rank for them at some point.
Not knowing Lagwagon is the most insane shit to me. They literally took blink out on some of their earlier tours. Not only are they not obscure, they are responsible for your taste in music.
This video lost all credibility within 5 seconds when he hadn’t heard of No Use for a Name, Lagwagon, Screeching Weasel and Millencolin. Only some of the most important pop punk bands of the 90s and early 2000s. And he also doesn’t seem to care or have any respect for Descendents which is comical.
I’m a casual fan of the genre and I’ve only heard about half of the albums listed but I’m pretty proud of that! U know most of it. U have mastered the genre. Time to level up! Nice work. Enjoyed the breakdown
Jimmy Eat World are my favourite band so I'm always happy to see them get some love! Their newest album Surviving was great and it's a shame that they didn't get much of a chance to play it live, because it is definitley a live album. Was also pleasently surprised to see Almot Here by The Academy Is ... on this list and you mentioning a possible reunion has me intrigued!
You gotta listen to these “older” albums. Bouncing Souls, Millencollen, No Use For a Name, etc are so good!! Learn the roots of some of these 2000’s and 2010’s bands.
Enema and Dookie at the top, of course! Also, I just realized that the two most iconic pop punk albums of all time (arguably) are named for bowel movements. Make of this what you will.
The Bouncing Souls “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” is easily a better album than most of what cracked the top 25 on this list. Say what you want about the cover art, it’s a fantastic album.
I feel like Midtown’s album is underrated. I think it doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Highly recommend it. It’s kinda like the grit of the 90s punk with polished pink of the 2000s in my opinion. Also I am a huge jimmy eat world fan. Glad they were on here. They are more than just their hit “the middle.”
Save the World and Living Well is the Best Revenge are fantastic. Forget What You Know doesn't do much for me personally, but it's still pretty good. Midtown is super underrated
WHen you said you never heard Midtown, I literally jumped out of my seat. Please, sir. Give it a listen. Also check out their debut "Save the world, lose the girl".
Really owe it to yourself to checkout millencollin and lagwagon. also enema is always number one for any pop punk list. No one has been more influential or definitive of the scene than blink 182
Jimmy eat world is shamefully underrated! I feel like nofx' Punk in Drublic, the offspring Smash/Americana, Zebrahead' MFZB, Riae against's suffer and the witness, Bad religion's Recipe for Hate, Anti flag's For blood and empire and Sum 41's Chuck deserve honorable mentions but I'm happy to see Dude ranch get some love.
I always thought that The Offspring were more punk than pop punk in my opinion. NOFX and Bad Religion are more punk, but I cannot deny the influence they had on a lot of both punk/pop punk bands.
Love seeing The Wonder Years on the list. Cardinals is one of my favorites but Suburbia speaks to me as growing up in suburban Philadelphia where they're from
That's the only Brand New album I'm not personally a fan of, but at least an argument could be made for it being pop-punk unlike Deja, which definitely is not.
I think you should check out some of these older bands. You don't have to limit yourself to just the music that came out when you were following the genre.

between 50 to 30 i only know Nothing Personal and Life's Not Out to Get You.. and i call myself a Pop Punk fanatic.. *he says and only listens to Green Day, ATL, MCR, FOB, Paramore, Blink, Sum 41, Good Charlotte and Waterparks on repeat Pop Punk-wise*
I liked how there wasn't too much from a band that they put on, because it'd be cliched as hell to just put all of Blink's albums and Green Day's albums on.
Okay... dude. Lagwagon. You never heard of Lagwagon? Seriously. Go listen to "Hoss" or "Double Pladinum" (Not a typo) and report back. DO IT! Boogadaboogadaboogada is not only one of my favorite albums of all time, but it's also been sited as a huge influence on everyone from Green Day to Blink. In fact, Mike even played bass on a later Screeching Weasel album. I sound like the old guy... but you kids just don't know what's going on anymore. =(
Pretty decent list - I completely agree with you: Jimmy Eat World is my favourite band of all time, and they are the most underrated band ever. So many good albums and songs
One of the most ambitious pop punk albums is Chuck from Sum 41, talent really shined through with each member of the band and while personal matters were touched it still had that political punk edge, i don't think it has a bad track. And ofc American Idiot is just pop punk perfection.
I know they are strictly in this genre, but I would have liked to have seen Pup or Modern Baseball in here. The classics are good, but some more recent stuff deserves a shout out.
Agreed 10000000000%. The new wave of emo/pop punk needs to start getting more love. PuP & Modern would have been fire at period of the genre, but I’m glad they came along when they did to carry the mantle left by their forebears. Both Sports! & You’re Gonna Miss It All by MB should be on this list. As should either Morbid Stuff or PUP S/T.
I'm surprised that they included Less Than Jake on this list. If they are including ska in with pop punk then where's Rancid, Reel Big Fish, No Doubt, or Sublime?
For whatever reason, I always associate pop-punk with summertime. And nothing embodies that better than Blink-182’s Take Off Your Pants And Jacket. That entire album just screams summertime, rebellion and fun. That should’ve been at #1.
I’ll be happy as long as Paramore gets some representation. Well I’m glad to see riot here would’ve been happier to see brand new eyes but this is still a good album
I got hyped that you were like YEAH SOMETHING CORPORATE, so underrated. Got to see them In NJ years ago. I also used to live in Poughkeepsie so every time I hear I woke up in a car I get stoked on the shout out
My top 30!! 1. Dookie 2. Is a real boy 3. Deja Entendu 4. Bleed American 5. Today’s Empires 6. Tell all your friends 7. No Closer to Heaven 8. Pennybridge pioneers 9. Homesick 10. Transgender Dysphoria Blues 11. Sing the sorrow 12. Enemy of the world 13. Through being cool 14. From Under The Cork Tree 15. Three Cheers 16. Does This Look Infected 17. From Here To Infirmary 18. Commit This To Memory 28. Everything Sucks 29. Morbid Stuff 30. Allroy Saves
@FactoryOfSuffering1977 that’s a pretty good list. I fall on more of the emo/hardcore influenced side. As evidenced by sadboi bands like wonder years and tssf
@FactoryOfSuffering1977 I didn’t put Devil and god on here even though it’s my favorite album ever, because I can’t say if I think it fits within the bounds of pop punk.
I must say I'm surprised they didn't include Americana by The Offspring, Louder Now by TBS, Pennybridge Pioneers by Millencolin and A Fever You Can't Sweat Out by P!ATD on this, but then again, it's probably just my own personal taste. These would all be on my personal top 10 pop-punk albums.
i don't have a top 3 pop punk album list... it's too hard to choose considering that nostalgia plays a big part @ how i rank but I'll give it a shot: 1) Green Day- Dookie 2) Paramore- Brand New Eyes 3) My Chemical Romance- Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge I like American Idiot more than Dookie, but like u said in the video, it's hardly considered pop-punk
I haven’t listened to a lot of pop punk albums, just individual songs. Hope I find some albums to listen to. Also hoping Three cheers is on here, and of course some Green Day. I haven’t listened to a lot of these albums, I can’t believe I forgot blink-182! Will definitely be checking out a lot of these albums
I get kind of mad when lists like this put enema of the state at 1 and dookie at 2 but that's probably my bias anyway, you really should check out more Descendents and definitely Midtown, you would like them a lot!
I know this is is a pop punk top album list but my top 3 albums of all time that I don’t skip tracks and *never* get tired of are 1. Green Day. Just.. Green Day. Lmao 2. Dying Is Your Latest Fashion by Escape the Fate. Ronnie was at his peak lyrically imo, which is crazy because it’s his first album lol 3. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds self titled :)
My top 5 would have been 5. All Killer No Filler, 4. Enema of the State, 3. Riot, 2. Smash by The Offspring and 1. Dookie. Disappointed at the lack of The Offspring.
Honestly a pretty solid list. Although I was disappointed that A Lesson In Romantics didn't make it, though. Can't even make the argument that it's an emo album because Tell All Your Friends is way more emo that Mayday Parade ever was or will be. But I love that album to bits so it got done dirty to me.
The fact that Nothing Personal is so low on the list is a hate crime, I’d put it in my Top 20. I’m not a pop-punk expert, sure, I haven’t heard like a half of these, but still... also yeah, I’d replace So Wrong It’s Right with Don’t Panic.

between 50 to 30 i only know Nothing Personal and Life's Not Out to Get You.. and i call myself a Pop Punk fanatic.. *he says and only listens to Green Day, ATL, MCR, FOB, Paramore, Blink, Sum 41, Good Charlotte and Waterparks on repeat Pop Punk-wise*
Hawk Nelson, 'Smile, It's The End Of The World' should be here
I liked how there wasn't too much from a band that they put on, because it'd be cliched as hell to just put all of Blink's albums and Green Day's albums on.
Okay... dude.
So Wrong, It’s right above Nothing Personal bothers me....Not gonna lie lol.
i was surprised to not see Don't Panic on here, that's my favorite ATL album! i guess you could say it's Alternative Rock/Pop Rock too but COME ON
Was there no PUP on this list?? PUP needs more representation!!
That would be much more on the punk side of things, not pop punk
Pup are pop punk not normal punk
@@artvjon Hey John love your stuff. I kind of see what you mean there, doesn't mean PUP don't kick ass though!
You should check out The Dirty Nil you might like that too, nice loud albums with similar cathartic themes
@@alwaysoctober8635 I listened to their Fuck Art album and damn it's actually pretty good thanks.
Pretty decent list - I completely agree with you: Jimmy Eat World is my favourite band of all time, and they are the most underrated band ever. So many good albums and songs
So glad Say Anything is on there, i feel like people don’t know enough about them
hey do you do music reviews for indie artist if so does it cost
Love Slick Shoes, but totally did not expect to see them on this list.
You need to listen to ALL also while you're checking out descendents. Its the same band members just a different singer.
Brand New have no bad songs!!
Facts
I’m glad to see that the Bouncing Souls and Say Anything made the list. Two of my favorite lesser-known bands
I know I’m late... but I LOVE NEIGHBORHOODS and NINE, too. Thank You for addressing Tom’s second to last album with blink-182
What did you think of midtown?
If they didn't include at least Does This Look Infected?, I'm going to email them a complaint.
Nice!
I also used to live in Poughkeepsie so every time I hear I woke up in a car I get stoked on the shout out
i am personally offended loudwire didn't include a single MCR album on this list what the heck.
I had Zac from Man Overboard on my podcast a little while ago. Great dude
Imagine putting Man Overboard above ANY Brand New and Taking Back Sunday album let alone some of their finest work. That’s HORRIFIC.
My top 30!!
1. Dookie
2. Is a real boy
3. Deja Entendu
4. Bleed American
5. Today’s Empires
6. Tell all your friends

29. Morbid Stuff
@FactoryOfSuffering1977 is a real boy, on the other hand i think could more comfortably sit on the pop punk/power pop side of emo
@FactoryOfSuffering1977 also, keep in mind that this is just a list of my personal favorites
Ahhhh. Less Than Jake is Ska Punk. I was wondering what you meant by "not your thing". I personally enjoy Ska though so I'm glad to find a new band.
I’m just not really into much ska, the sound irritates me quickly but that’s just me
@@beyondartv Right, no worries!
Living well is the best revenge by midtown is a great album.
Worth checking it out
W O W! I can't imagine what album would be at number one... Probably something that starts with D
Danger mouse soundtrack
i don't have a top 3 pop punk album list... it's too hard to choose considering that nostalgia plays a big part @ how i rank
but I'll give it a shot:
1) Green Day- Dookie
2) Paramore- Brand New Eyes
3) My Chemical Romance- Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
I like American Idiot more than Dookie, but like u said in the video, it's hardly considered pop-punk
what position is the untitled blink album??
jon, just to let you know, midtown was a pop punk-emo band that was fronted by gabe saporta. yeah, also the frontman of cobra starship
John MIDTOWN LIVING WELL IS THE BEST REVENGE is a great album
I listened to it today after I got a few comments. Solid, not an all time great for me but maybe I need more listens but it was still pretty good.
@@beyondartv You should listen to their song Give It Up, it was on Burnout 3 and also on the Spider Man 2 soundtrack CD.
I get kind of mad when lists like this put enema of the state at 1 and dookie at 2 but that's probably my bias anyway, you really should check out more Descendents and definitely Midtown, you would like them a lot!
Where would you rank The Peace and Panic vs. life's not out to get you? Love seeing Say Anything get some love!
I know this is is a pop punk top album list but my top 3 albums of all time that I don’t skip tracks and *never* get tired of are
1. Green Day. Just.. Green Day. Lmao
2. Dying Is Your Latest Fashion by Escape the Fate. Ronnie was at his peak lyrically imo, which is crazy because it’s his first album lol
3. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds self titled
:)
My top 5 would have been 5. All Killer No Filler, 4. Enema of the State, 3. Riot, 2. Smash by The Offspring and 1. Dookie. Disappointed at the lack of The Offspring.
8:23 Are you referring to Burnout Revenge?
Honestly a pretty solid list. Although I was disappointed that A Lesson In Romantics didn't make it, though. Can't even make the argument that it's an emo album because Tell All Your Friends is way more emo that Mayday Parade ever was or will be. But I love that album to bits so it got done dirty to me.
Yeah that Midtown album is great, give it a listen!
What's your favorite Jimmy eat world album?
Albums they left off:
The audition-controversy loves company
Acceptance-phantoms
Cartel-chroma
Anberlin-never take friendship personal
Who ever made this list deserves major props
Saw Sum 41 Green Day and blink-182 in the thumbnail and clicked instantly
Me too.
The fact that Nothing Personal is so low on the list is a hate crime, I’d put it in my Top 20. I’m not a pop-punk expert, sure, I haven’t heard like a half of these, but still... also yeah, I’d replace So Wrong It’s Right with Don’t Panic.
