Hello.. can I ask you a personal question. I know I don’t know you and if you don’t feel comfortable answering I understand but.. I just lost my dad today and he was intubated and under sedation. And thankfully I was able to be there to say my goodbyes. I know everyone is different but .. when you were intubated, could you hear people talking to you? I am just curious if my dad was able to hear me say my goodbyes 😢..I hope so.

@@Jennn.rennn17 Hi. I am so sorry for your lost. And yes when i was intubated and with sedation I was still able to hear when someone would be talking to me. Specially people that i loved. I was able to hear and feel. And even tho i was able to feel I didn't feel pain. So if that was your concern also. I am sure your dad was able to hear u and feel you.

Thank you for this! My family member was very recently intubated (they have covid pneumonia) because they have been very agitated, very anxious, and kept removing the oxygen devices. The nurse is going to set up a video chat for us and I can't wait to talk to them and reassure them. I wanted to know what to talk about and what not to talk about as I do not want them to be even more stressed out so thank you again for making this video! Happy Valentines Day!

When I was 19 I was in a car accident and was intubated in an ICU for 6 days. I remember 10x more then Drs thought I would. Not being able to communicate was the most frustrating thing. I spent six days in my head screaming at myself and wishing my body would cooperate. Wishing the people around me would give me a chance to communicate. So many times a Dr, nurse, family member would ask me a question and already be walking out of the room before I got my arm to make the sign that I wanted to write something. So many times I would wake up and someone would be touching my body, rolling me over, and in my head I was furious that they didn't ask my consent. One time I came into awareness sitting on the edge of my bed with a strange male nurse wrapping his arms around me to stand me up. I've been sexually assaulted before and this was so re-traumatizing. In those six days the only staff person who talked to me as if I was awake was the CT scan tech. Knowing what was about to be done to my body, what I was about to feel took a major part of the anxiety away. Being given the chance to actually answer a question was the best thing. Thank you for advocating this, I wish all healthcare staff knew.

I always suggest checking board pass rates on COARC because faculty can change. For example none of my old teachers no longer work at the school I went to so it makes it hard for me to give an opinion on.
