Took me 14 years to fully understand what the song is about, the first scene at the airport, she's just finished touring with No Doubt, and came home to LA, Jimmy is her manager at Interscope, he wanted her to produce a solo album for her, but Gwen had no idea how to do it and she was in lack of ideas, at the same time she misses her band (what an amazing time, what a family how did the years go by, now it's only me) here she's talking about No Doubt, they were like a family to her, and she reminisces about the glorious times they spent together, (now it's only me) the fear about her debut as a solo artist. The tick tock is a reference to how time always put the pressure on us and the need to do something productive, also the song is about how badly women are treated and objectified in the music industry, and the issue of ageisme (look at your watch now, you still a super hot female, you got your million dollar contract, and they're all waiting for your hot track). This song is just genious, and the video suits the song perfectly, i will never stop listening to this. Thank you Gwen !

It is amazing that Gwen fights destructive criticism with irony/ sarcasm. It is her way of staying true to herself.
She also said in an interview that someone at Interscope told her "What you waitin' for?"(meaning just write something) when she said she didn't know what to write about.
This song has alot of meaning for me. Gwen and I are almost the same age and our birthday's are a few days apart. Her life has really mirrored mine except she got married and I didn't. She took her career in a new direction at the same time I did and this song represents the fear and escapism and the writers block she admitted to and what I was going through too. In the end, she picks up the microphone and belts out with tremendous strength and skill and it has always inspired me.

@@tacubaeulalio to me (as a creative person as well, but I'm not a writer - I draw) it's about overcoming your laziness and endless awaiting of a 'muse' to appear, because contrary to popular belief, art is more about constant work and self-improving, rather than casual lighthearted wait for some inspiration. Of course, being inspired is also important, but it's such a rare case scenario that you'll end up with a very few creations if you'll rely only on that state of mind. It's about 'fighting' your artblock, rather than tamely waiting for it to end. Something like that.
They ALL have predictive programming meaning.

This and the Sweet Escape just reminds me how she always looked amazing in her clips and her clips were works of art, and the songs, while not complicated, were just fine.. Going solo after No Doubt was huge personally for her.. Well done Gwen!!!

At one point I couldn't stop running into this song, flavours of deja vu and destiny for months, almost speaking out those who are listening.
