Interesting video...somewhat 'patchy' in content and flow but nonetheless, thank you sincerely for it! I was born 1950 and raised in Paisley (the last baby or one of them in Barshaw Hospital). I was initially raised in the west end (Broomland St) then Ferguslie (somewhat 'tough days) then back to the same home in the West End. To me, Paisley was always a good place to live...I still have nothing but fond memories of it, the town that is...and a few sad personal memories/ experience of Ferguslie but mainly positive overall, And so, Paisley has always been good for me as it was to me! My first job was an apprentice Marine Engineer in Thomas Reid Marine Engineers just near where Coats Mill behind the Abbey. Then I changed jobs and settled into a more permanent apprenticeship with Semple & Cochrane on Williams St just off Broomlands St, on the border of Woodside where I used to play a lot as a boy (where the hospital used to be that was bombed and the old John Neilson school used to be). I left Paisley almost on a whim, in 1977 for Canada but, hindsight being wisdom, I wonder, given the balance and flow of past to present. I've always loved the West End (it just felt 'good' to me) but Ferguslie was mainly 'okay' before it unfortunately started to lose 'its way' in the eighties, and subsequently experienced a lot of sad times for a long time. I attended The Huts school across the street from Ferguslie school, then St Marys, then St Fergus that once was a 'protestant' school, and St Mirin (old school first next toe Cathedral then the larger school on Renfrew Rd); I guess then I'm Catholic...still am. I loved the old High St, and surrounding busy areas which also in the nineties started to degrade...how sad...it used to have movie theatres, The La Scala, The Picture House, the ABC, and the West End movie house, not forgetting the Melbourne! Like most older 'buddies' I could go on and put you to sleep with personal memories but I'll stop. I will say though, "Thank You Paisley", and people from there, especially Family who loved me, and I for sure will always Love them, and friends.

Beautiful video! My GG Grandfather emigrated from Paisley to Philadelphia in 1859, he was a tailor. He also was a member of the Loyal Lilley Lodge in Paisley and worked off his cost of emigrating as a ship's tailor on 4 or 5 trans Atlantic trips and arrived in America a Freeman.
Paisley is my alltime favorite pattern and most of my upholstered furniture reflects the Paisley design as well as much of my clothing. When I was younger I made much of my own clothing and I still have wooden spools of Coats & Clark thread which are antiques now.
    Thank you for this video!❤️

What a cracking video I'm from Hebburn next to Newcastle but spent 9 months at the old Glasgow skill-centre in Hillington in 1987 and stayed in digs in Corsebar Rd in Paisley. Lovely people, old school, friendly, honest and with integrity, loved my time up there.

Great video. Thanks for posting. I used to take the bus from Renfrew Ferry to Paisley Ice Rink for my lessons with Gladys Jagger - that would've been 1963/4? And my dad was a Paisley Buddie.

I used to live in Queen Street, across from the old St Mary's school. That was back in the early 70's.

Really enjoyed this, especially since I was in Mossvale School around this time and remember Mr Houston. Especially poignant since the bright future proved an illusion and all the industry and employment was to leave in the next couple of decades.

My family namesake had left (or was removed, according to family history) Paisley before the 18th century. I hope to visit these sites one day to learn more.

When my father was a young policeman, he was put on traffic duty at the Cross. He waved a tram on, but its driver shook his head. My father insisted, waving his arms even more clearly. And the the driver if the tram point'ed down....and my father was standing between the rails...

Renfrew District Council set up to save money by rationalisation A district of the bonkers Strath Clyde Region which extended from the western Ilse to the central belt. Only made things worse with over paid executives and managers overseeing services remotely instead of local and natural as it was before.
