PixInsight Tutorial - M13 Great Hercules Cluster - Processing Workflow

- M13 is one of the most popular clusters .... enjoyed processing this one and the final image at the end of video reminds me that not all DSO's that we image have to be galaxies or nebular !
Understandably, due to the nature and number of features and processes that PixInsight offers, there are various methods to achieve the same end goal.
So please take a watch and follow my processing workflow for the M31 Great Hercules Cluster - using PixInsight - comments and further advice to myself and others is welcome !

Thanks for the great tutorial. I'm a Pixinsight beginner and your guides help me to get started with this mighty software.
Really glad you found them useful ! Stick with it, the learning curve is worth it.
@@AstronomyGuides Do you think i can use this workflow also for a galaxy? The galaxy is M102. Much backround and only a small galaxy.
Great Tutorial!! I love that Globular Cluster, Nicely Processed!!
Yes - it is an amazing target. Thanks for the comment.
Nice tutorial, thank you
You are welcome!. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Maybe Decon applied mildly would also be beneficial to further reduce the “softness” in the centre of the star cluster
Many thanks for the pointer - will try that !
Good evening.
I am made to understand that TGV Denoise is used for noise reduction on a non-linear, stretched image.
If this is indeed the case, should one not run the EZ Stretch script, before running the EZ Denoise script?
Otherwise a great tutorial that’s most useful.
Thanks and regards,
Mupanga
Good question - personally, I refer to Rogelio Bernal Andreo and his 'Mastering PixInsight' guides / books. Rogelio states that it can be used linear and nonlinear - gentle application during linear and more aggressive during non linear. In general TGVDenoise is effective with high-frequency noise while low-frequency is usually better resolved with LultiscaleLinearTransform.
Jon Rista on his walkthrough also lists it in his "linear phase":

Thanks for the comment though ! I think with all this processing - we just need to make sure that our final image looks best.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I'm a Pixinsight beginner and your guides help me to get started with this great software. Owning APP and soon also PI can you tell why you prefer stacking in APP instead of using WBPP in Pixinsight?
If you look at my other videos where I show the stacking in APP, I find it very easy to add the files quickly - change 1 or 2 settings, so that APP stacks and then does not adjust anything of the image ~ easy and quick to do. Just feel more comfortable with APP for stacking and Pi for then post-stacking processing.
Personal preference, but theres articles out there where APP does a better job than Pi for stacking ... but im sure there will also be articles out there for Pi over APP for stacking.
