If someone is solely trained for fighting for points, they'd have a hard time fighting in real life scenarios. Again, if someone is solely trained for real life fighting, they'd have a hard time getting scores and actually winning tournaments. I do both. Shotokan style kumite is good for getting scores in tournaments, and that is what is taught to us initially. I'm a Goju Ryu practitioner, so we combine both competition kumite and practical fighting. We follow Shotokan's style of kumite as it is the standard for most competitions.

@@gmork1090definetely, Karate's biggest flaw is head movement (a couple other thing based on how you lack "real" sparring but it's something easier to do). Boxing + Karate with a good sparring allowing you to really test your moves is probably the best combination for someone who comes from Karate or traditionnal martial arts. (No hate on thai, it's great too).
Muay Thai, wrestling, BJJ, and judo. Good striking, takedowns, and throwing people. I've only done Muay Thai and BJJ (no gi) so far, but I wouldn't mind trying Judo if I can do it without a gi

No. I have practiced ITF TKD since I was 8 years old. I can tell you with certainty that our punching techniques are not nearly as effective as boxing. I used to think I had good hands too until I started boxing. There's a vast difference in technical knowledge and skill.
I do taekwondo but I also work on my boxing because kickboxing isnt allowed for under 14 and im 13. I have to learn close range self defense if i am wearing jeans or something i can't kick with. I also have to learn long range fighting in case I am fighting multiple opponents. I also do bjj and judo in case i am on the ground or in a good grappling position. Learning taekwondo and boxing is better because that is what you need the most for self defense against one person so you can use close range and against multiple people so you can use long range to keep yourself safe and g always be able to watch all the opponents, and thats why the speed of taekwondo and boxing also comes in handy.
Taekwondo, Boxing and Kickboxing are the main styles I taught myself in my preteens watching UA-cam instructional videos. I haven't really fought anyone, even though I did lose most of the few fights I had with some kids that picked on me. I did get close to knocking down a neighbor with a tornado kick during a sparring session we had once. Thank goodness it didn't fully connect. It was good for me to actually know martial arts, having an interest in it, and imitating fight scenes from TV shows and movies I saw like "Walker, Texas Ranger." If anything, I guess I taught myself Tae-Bo, like how Billy Blanks used to have those workout tapes from back in the day.
Boxing + Tae kwon do, coming from someone who boxed as an amateur for five years and also has a second degree black belt in the latter. Tae kwon do teaches you how to kick as well as, if not better than, almost any other martial art, but offers little in the way of blocking strikes. Boxing teaches you how to punch as well as, if not better than, almost any other form of combat, emphasizes strong footwork and also compensates for Tae Kwon Do's primary weakness by teaching one how to effectively block a variety of strikes. It's a perfect pairing.
I do TKD & Muay Thai. The problem with TKD+ Boxing is that you have no defense against leg kicks & the clinch. Speed advantage would go to the 1st guy but all the 2nd guy has to do is tag you with a few leg kicks to cripple that speed. Then you're finished.
Boxing can be so stiff, so it wouldn't mix well with Taekwondo. But the fluidity of muy thai and karate clears all weapons, such as elbows, knees, hands, and kicks. I know this because I've practiced muy thai, boxing, and karate

Nowadays we accept several types of kicks in karate which might not have been traditionally used before. There are flying kicks and spinning kicks which are more common nowadays in Karate. Basically, I can do Taekwondo kicks and Karate punches and still call it Karate as a whole. Or, I can even do several martial arts combinations, like the ones you mentioned, and still say that I'm practicing karate.
Fun concept for a video. I love it! Boxing and Taekwondo should win here due to the increased mobility both provide vs Muay Thai/Karate. Also, Taekwondo naturally exploits the mid region of the body not defended traditionally by muay thai, so there is that as well

Karate is also good for long range and closing in the distance mainly with hand strikes since it's less risky as their long range kicks, like their side kicks. Most Karate styles just keep you more grounded in your stance in contrast to a Taekwondo stance where they're more so long-standing and loose in their stance.
Both are pretty effective combos. I lean more towards boxkwondo, because it’s a punching art and (mostly) a kicking art. And karatuah are both kicking and punching so there’s some overlap there where your technique is going to clash.

Both are pretty effective combos. I lean more towards boxkwondo, because it’s a punching art and (mostly) a kicking art. And karatuah are both kicking and punching so there’s some overlap there where your technique is going to clash.
