  • I really like just about everything that Admiral made during the 1940s and 1950s. This really cool Radio and Record Player tabletop combo is one example of the high quality and attention to detail that Admiral put into their stuff. This one was made in 1949, and it has a beautiful Bakelite cabinet with a cool gramophone-style lid. I won't get to start this one until the late winter or early spring.

I just bought a vintage Admiral 1950 or 1955 am radio player and turntable. They are rare! I only paid $20.00 for it.The am radio works great.Only problem is,the record player doesn't run.I think its because of the years of sitting and not being used. All I know is the man I bought it from said it's been sitting for years collecting dust.So I will try to get the record player working.Wow, these old Admiral machines are great to play once you can get them working. The place I got the am radio and turntable from was going out of business. They were going to toss this great piece of history out.I just didn't have the heart to see this vintage am radio and turntable get tossed in the garbage. So once I can figure this turntable out.It should be good to go.Great video.🙂👍It was very educational and interesting to watch.Have a great weekend. 👍

Looks interesting. I've never tackled a turntable before. I have one in a Philco console I'm going to get to some day, but fortunately it looks nearly identical to one in Buzz1151's 1209, so I'll have something to follow besides just a schematic, lol.

      Gary,
It should be fun. I think the cost cause the owner to decide against the project, but we'll see. I don't know if I had seen Buzz's 1209 video, and I thought I'd watched them all at least twice. I'll look. I have a 46-1209 that I think will be fun to do. Cheers! Michael

I got an Admiral radio/record player combo very similar to this, but the radio is model 6V12N and the player is model RC180.
I am looking for the cartridge and needle for this player. The photofacts for these say the cartridge is A1372 and they reffer to a "holder" G400A198. Any clues? I am clueless and know nothing about electronics, old or new. Google and Ebay were of no help. Thanks!

I did a Scott 800B that had something like 23 tubes. Yikes! But, they were just happy to get it playing again. And boy, did it ever play! Thank you for your kind words and thank you for watching. Cheers! Michael

I got mine from Radio Museum. It is a German organization that you can join by paying $25 US. For that, you get a whole bunch of downloads and some other cool stuff. The neat thing is, as long as you occasionally upload things like photos or schematics, you can continue to download without paying anything more. I have been a member for about 4 years and it has been one of the best things that I have done to further my knowledge of vintage radios. Check it out. Take care. Michael
