I was born in 71, raised in 81, and live in a musical time warp. Frankly I don't give a fuck. It's amazing how much really good music that just passed through the radio waves, effortlessly, all day long. great bands, musicians and singers. Haircut 100 was one of many great bands to listen to. You could listen to country, punk, metal, disco and pop all at the same time, and it would all be good. kids today just don't understand what they missed out on.
What I love about Haircut 100 is the sweetness of their music. Bright and, to me, innocent. Probably representative of my age when I discovered them and other 80's bands forever making their indelible impression on me musically.
Summer 1982. Just started sales career. Had somehow fluked a big deal with a company in Saffron Walden. Drove back to Chelmsford in company Ford Escort estate, taking the country route, windows wound down, belting this out as loud as possible from the state-of-the-art, factory-fitted cassette player! ha ha! Singing it over and over at the top of my lungs! It really was a fantastic day! And 39 years later? I am back in that driving seat feeling dead good about myself, listening to this. Oh... and still selling! Still loving it as well!
Richard Cook I wish it was 1982 even though I was born in 1996 - my manager was born in the 70’s and recommended that I listen to this band so here I am :) she says times were much better than now, more carefree
I thought I never listened to any 1980s like that before in my entire life. It's kinda pretty good. I always love listening to the 1980s music. Along with the 1990s and the 2000s, the 1980s is one of my favourite decades for music all time. It never gets old and it will always be a timeless classic. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Had failed my driving test 3 times. Woke up on the morning of the 4th test, with a big job interview afterwards in the afternoon. Put this on as I was getting ready, willing for everything come up trumps. Fluked the driving test and then got offered the job on the spot with £10k pay rise. Always get this on when I have a big day ahead now...
My God! Nick Heyward was such a charming cutie. I just love how he mugs for the camera. So adorable! And of course Fantastic Day is a fantastic song. Pure audio sunshine. 😊 The Golden Age of New Wave produced such catchy timeless singles.
@@ElvarMasson Nick Heyward is still around but he's just not as prominent in music as he used to be. I love his solo albums North Of A Miracle and From Monday To Sunday.
if you had this song going through your head, and you didn't know who it was by, and someone told you it was by Elvis Costello, then you would believe them I think. :)
Back when this came out, Haircut 100 was promoted as an old-fashioned instrument-playing band, not a bunch of programmed synth - that was part of their appeal.
Ran my first marathon on the weekend - with 3 miles to go I thought I was going to drop dead before I got to the finish....... until I heard someone on the sideline playing this song, and suddenly the last three miles became a breeze! 🎉 Thanks, Nick, Les, and Graham - I owe you one!
Thinking back on 'Pelican West', a lot of effort went into those pop arrangements, a few with jazz-flavored instrumental parts. When I wore the album out I was just a giddy preteen who loved the fun sound, the quirky videos, and the cutest frontman who turned me into a total Anglophile. But they were a genuinely talented band. I like Heyward's solo work, but I wish Haircut 100 would record again...
No matter how f'd up the day might be for me this fun song usually deals with it. Now I'm getting married to my beautiful fiancee here in Texas on May 23 2023. That's going to definitely be a fantastic day. We can hardly wait.❤😂🎉
Richard Cook, Yeah, I'm listening/watching but only wishing it was 1982 again if, I could change or rearrange certain events. Give me that ability and you can have your 1982 all over again.
When haircut 100🇬🇧🎤🎵🎸

I was also born in 1971 (Year Of The Pig!). Music used to be so good. It dropped off in about 1987 for me & it has never been the same for me since.
You are so right! No music today can compare to what we listened to in the 80's!
You are so right! I thought it would keep going the same way. Music has become so boring now

The 80s just the best time to be alive can't believe this was 40 years ago where has the time gone.
Definitely
Summer of 82. Classic.
I went into a barbershop back in 1989 and the guy told me I was his 100th customer so I have always had a love for this amazing band ❤
I was with 3000 or so Chelsea fans at Sheffield Weds in the 80’s singing this as we left the stadium,,,,, what a memory.
What a memory. I was in Sheffield then. We were poor, but the music at the time was incredible.

@@coilonportente5226 that’s why I’m here on a Covid lockdown day. Need that feeling😊
@mat mells That was one match I missed, thank goodness.
That must have been a great day.... cause it was the 80s and Chelsea weren't that great then... 😂😂
Who's listening to this wishing it was 1982?
Definitely, such happy days back then.

Me

Just saw them live a few nights ago - they've barely aged and were pure energy on stage!!
They sounded amazing & were so gracious to the crowd!❤❤
And to think he wrote this when he was only 15. I wish he could have only seen everyone in the U.S. dancing with joy to this happiness.
Got to be one of the happiest pop tunes ever written!
I'd give ANYTHING to go back to these days!
Nick Hayward is such a great artist. No way is this song 37 years old. They don't make songs like this nowadays.
if you had this song going through your head, and you didn't know who it was by, and someone told you it was by Elvis Costello, then you would believe them I think. :)
Nope it's 39 years old now

Good pop song, toe tapper and timeless. Always nice to discover these.

I saw them in 1982 in NYC. Really Great.
Saw them in Windsor, Ontario CA and the 30 minute show they performed was the best 30 Evah!
Even got to meet them after their performance. Epic.

Positivity!!! Where did it go?
Still exists... Life is only as positive as we make it for ourselves

I would choose some bits of 1982. Not others.
This song was a best part of the best of it.
Looking forward to seeing these with my mum and dad at the butlins adult weekend in Skegness soon . My mum plays a lot of 70s and 80s and I love it

The girls are gorgeous. The girls in the eighties were so glamourous and elegantly dressed. What a time to be a bloke out on the pull. xxx
