Awesome spot to stay overnight at Denniston to watch the sunsets as well. The Scullery Coffee stop at Waimangaroa at the bottom is an awesome stop over for their fantastic pies, great staff and a walk through the area behind 👍😀
So much to see in the Westport area. I have done several trips to Waimangaroa and up to Denniston and there's always something new or different to see and explore.
Yea mate, loads of places... I'm keen on some river hikes in the summer, just keep walking up, swimming in water holes. I've def had enough of mines though. I need to catch some fish I reckon.
Cheers man, I pretty much make the content I want to watch as well, some good cheap fun in the great outdoors. Looking forward to some swimming weather again and going for a dive.
I couldn't imagine living up there it was pretty cold when we were there, I imagine it would be a very interesting book. I'm not much of a reader but I do enjoy stuff about the old days.
An amazing feat of engineering. I spent hours there reading and looking around and we struck a great clear and calm day. Rather sad reading about some is the children that took their own lives, life up there must have been only for the strongest of the strong😢
so impressed with this part of the west coast so nice to see and explore. You must have enjoyed our videso from the canterbury high country, how beautiful aye, lake Pukaki, Lake wardell, Ashburton lakes, stunning.
@@leopardsgowild yes I did as I have all of your adventures around NZ. You have inspired be to get back into the Canterbury high country lakes as they are part of our backyard, been around a year since visiting. So much to see and do. I’m six months behind with your videos so slowly catching up😊
Only caught sharks so far mate, had a good go up the top at Kohaihai... I'm working on the next video now, so hopefully you don't have to wait to long... I enjoy making them as long as I don't work myself to hard, thats when I lose my creative energy.
*thats one crazy steep track for the coal to travel down. Some amazing views from up top though. Must have been tough working conditions though, lots of mines in our town with many hills and ponds left over from the digs.*
I agree with your concerns about old mining machinery left to rot and pollut the environment for hundreds of years... some folks think its historical...i think it's rubbish and it need to be cleaned up...that one way road under the overhang was during the last flood on the buller was washing over that road... it's nuts to think that's possible...not sure how long that road will be viable in the future!!.❤️🇳🇿
Crazy country aye, I like the relics and stuff at Denniston main area mostly, well preserved and show cases the history, go further a field it's not something you expect to find in NZ. We got some interesting flood stuff to show in the next vid
@@leopardsgowild look forward to that.. enjoy the rest from traveling for awhile , I hope you can top up the bank account for the next adventure!!.❤️🇳🇿
Love the coast! Winter is the perfect time to travel there with the weather being abit more settled & the sandflys at bay. Hope you guys make it up to Karamea
Cheers mate, yea we're currently up at Karamea now, done a few nights here, a couple at Koihaihai, what a great spot for sure. Our plan was for winter over here, like you say less bugs, weather is likely more settled and less wind, it's been good so far, a long way to go before we get down to Haast though.
@@leopardsgowild that’s great to hear! Just caught your new upload. Make sure you take the extra trip down to Jackson’s bay where you can see the sun rise on the west coast. It’s magic
It's such an awesome area and when you go back to Westport you will find more to do. I can definitely recommend the Quarry burger at the Quarry Restaurant and bar, huge! Hope you are enjoying Karamea, looking forward to that video, and Gentle Annie too of course
Oh that resturant sounds good, I think we'll be looking for a reward once I finished the reno work out at Gentle Annie. Karamea and beyond is pretty awesome alright, we've had a blast out here, quite a ways to come though.
Nice one Whanau👍 Thanks for your honest story This is for the patriarch. Sorry didnt get your name. Your good with google earth? If you get down in kind of resort areas or good climate areas such as Motueka and fossick around via satellite view you can find new Developments. Often builders advertise them selves within these developments. Could be a good way to find some contract work. Good luck on that.
FoulWind??? i know another place u can find some Foul WInd................... dude we have sand flies here too their bite stay for like 3 weeks its terrible i got lit up by them in the spring i still have marks on my arm!!!!! hope all is well!!!! talk to yah soon!!!!
Hey Bro, I don't think our Sand flies are quite as bad, but in the summer time they literally drive people away from these places because there are so many of them, it's this coast especially. Foulwind isn't the smell i think lol... But the places is so friggin windy normally, winter generally can bring more settled weather to these parts.

Oh mate, that sounds like a pie stop I want on our way back south in a couple of weeks... I'm getting pie hungry.

Enjoy the westcoast. I love it.
Oh thats cool team, We are looking forward to exploring all the areas south of here as well, never travelled on the West Coast before so it's all new.

This video is amazing!
Thank you, this is a very average video there are some really stunning places we've been further back... check out the one at middle Earth
@@leopardsgowildThank you
awesome work guys!
Cheers team, what a great spot aye. Love these free camps.
Good to hear you're getting some work. I've got work through till October by the look of things.
that sounds good Owen, plenty of time to save and then you can enjoy the warmer days.
Time to read the Denniston Rose - this novel really tells us just how bad it was up there. Some women went up and never came down.

Great Video. Enjoy the Gentle Annie Campground. We love staying there
yea we had a blast out there, we did 1 week a week ago, but we'll be out there for atleast 2 weeks and I'll be doing some renovation work out there.

Yea mate, this place is quite unique for NZ... Not seen such extensive mining here until this spot/// the mining is still well and alive today.
@leopardsgowild reminded me a lot of Cornwall, thats on our west coast and famous for mining and pasties.
Welcome to my world waimangaroa
Beautiful spot bro
Great Video Mike! We did a rushed trip through there last year, must book another trip to explore some of those places you’ve just been to
Yea it gets better the further north you go as well, Currently up at Karamea, had a magic time so far.

Cheers bro, Soph's her Name. We luckily have picked up a heap of work which is really nice, all in one spot as well.
Been thinking about you , and family and how you are coping in this weather
weather has been great just started raining for the first time in days, we've been in shorts n t shirt every day nearly for the last week.
Where do you get all your music from?
Music bed, it's all the undiscovered bands
Amazing set up for coal. Shows how valuable it must have been then. I expected it to be gold.
Yea, and such a hard life for the whole family, it must have been so exposed up there.
I live in westport
We enjoyed westport a welcomed town after Lewis pass snow ❄️
