- Dr Huma Aslam talks about how antidepressants work? There are a lot of myths associated with antidepressants use. Dr Huma clearly explains the mechanism of action, uses and, side effects of antidepressants.
Neither antidepressants are sleeping pills nor these are addictive. sleeping pills are another group of drugs and these should not be mistaken with antidepressants.
As far as side effects are concerned, most of these if appear are easily manageable.
Another important question is for how long these antidepressants are to be taken. Well, it varies from patient to patient. The minimum duration is six to nine months after the improvement of symptoms

Salaam sister, my Urdu is a little weak so i'll try my best as I too use Alp (Alprazolam) from time to time for anxiety. Alprazolam antidepressant nahi hai, it is a nerve relaxant. nerve relaxant jo kaam karta hay woh brain k us side ko block karta hay jo negative thoughts aur negative triggers create karta hay. So it is a nerve relaxant. It is for anxiety and it is effective but it is also highly addictive. Allah knows best, Allah grants all shifa and I pray that he grants you and everyone shifa. I take Alp 0.25 mg only when I feel my anxiety and tension is too much but sister, I would also suggest reciting Surah Jumuah, Surah Maarij and Surah Duha thrice a day. Take care

1۔بہت سارے لوگوں کو سائیکاٹری کی دوائیوں کے بارے میں پوری طرح معلومات نہیں ہے۔ وہ یہ سمجھتے ہیں کہ شاید تمام دوایا سلانے کے لیے ہوتی ہیں۔ حالانکہ ایسا نہیں ہے۔
2۔ سائیکاٹری کی دواییاں بہت سارے دوسرے لوگ بھی دیتے ہیں۔ اور تجربہ کم ہونے کی وجہ سے جب مطلوبہ نتائج حاصل نہیں ہوتے تو وہ ان دوائیوں سے مایوس ہو جاتے ہیں
3۔ذہنی بیماریوں میں دوائیوں کے ساتھ ساتھ تھراپی کی بھی ضرورت ہوتی ہے۔ اگر ہم صرف دوائیوں پر انحصار کریں تو بسا اوقات مطلوبہ نتائج حاصل نہیں ہوتے۔ اور اس پہلو سے دوسرے ڈاکٹر اکثر نابلد ہوتے ہیں۔ یا ان کے پاس اتنا وقت نہیں ہوتا کہ وہ ایسی چیزوں کو بھی ایڈریس کریں۔

To make the things simple just remember there is only one brain. However there are different parts of brain that function differently. Just like when we say hand this is the one item. There are different parts of hand like thumb fingers Palm etc.
Similarly the right and left brain are the part of an organ that is brain. I will give you another example, when we say something harshly to other there is one part of brain that will understand the words and sentences and the other part of brain will perceive the emotional tone and nonverbal language that sentence. The word sentences meaning of perceived by the dominant brain. And emotional tone is perceived by the non dominant part of brain.
