Congrats on 1500, buddy! 🎉 Stoked for you and the channel, let’s go get more! Nice video, I haven’t done a ton of Estate Sales but the few I have, I’ve struck out as well. I think I woulda been around where you were with the offer. It’s a ton of time effort to turn around and make a profit on those non-key books. I admire the ones who do it but I couldn’t do it either.
Thanks man, I'm still in disbelief but grateful. And for sure, I definitely am a little jealous of the folks that can make it worth it. Some fun to be had with the thrill of the hunt. Thanks for watching!
I’d say you made the right decision, it’s the supply cost and fees and shipping costs that all adds up without realising. It’s cool to go and see as you never know
Brandon, great video. The hunt is really fun, but, like you said, we need to be realistic with our time and budget. The big question I have, were you allowed to open the Kirby's and see if he signed any??? Now I'm thinking, in a now hypothetical situation, how would that have changed your bid, of at all if you found one?
I should have watched this video before I messaged you about that JiM! Absolutely spot-on analysis and thought behind not grabbing that collection. Totally smart decision making.
Hey buddy, I think you made the wise choice to pass. Like you stated, you were looking at it realistically with logical numbers. The time and the materials to get you there just wouldn’t have been worth it. Proud of you taking the leap and going to check it out. The best thing you could have done was at least try! Thanks for taking us along for the journey 👍
Thanks my friend. I was probably estimating low on my grades but then again, I never took them out and counted pages, looked for MVS, so much more could have gone wrong. I had to go, then I at least knew the deal. What if I didn't and they were asking half that price. Thanks for coming on the journey!
Came over from Lunch Money Comics and enjoyed the show so I've subscribed. I have had similar opportunities at estate sales and passed. I agree 100% that time is the most valuable commodity and that collection wasn't worth the time unless they would have taken a lot less - then maybe I would've tried to flip as a pile.
I appreciate anyone coming over and viewing my content. I’m no Mike, but I’m having fun and hope to entertain. And I agree, time is too precious to add extra stress when life does that just ok already lol. Thank you for subbing and I hope I keep you entertained!
Very informative, I’ve always wondered how estate sales work. I have a few around me that pop up all the time but I’m always worried about wasting my time. Thanks for making this one.
Thank you! I had watched enough videos of other comic hunters going to estate sales so I kinda knew what to expect, but I was still surprised. Regularly I’d say this was a waste of my time but being my first one with some decent books I found it to be a good learning experience should it happen again in the future. And you are most welcome!
If you were buying for personal collection I would of done it. But to resell the cost versus reward just isn’t there. Definitely made right choice imo! Terrific con around the corner!!!
Really enjoyed this video, Brandon. I got subscribed to the channel at the right time! I think you nailed it on the pricing of the lot, I wouldn't have done anything any differently.
I feel like I pulled something on the back of my neck from nodding my head so much when you started breaking down the material costs you would incur in order to sell + ship those books😅 Great breakdown on the process. I'm married with no kids and I still wouldn't have the time to sell all those books!
hahaha. You kill me dude! As much as I wanted them to more thoroughly dig there and see what I could turn them into I couldn't stop thinking about my work schedule, my wifes, time with the kids, and helping my mom. It just didn't make sense. Now, had this been 8 years ago I would have made it work lol, All good, and thanks for watching!
@@Moncomics Not getting tunnel vision in those scenarios is a skill for sure. I actually think this video is a great collector's PSA, justing hitting pause in a situation like that is a good thing. Looking forward to the next one! 👍
Idk Brandon all I heard was excuses. 😂😂. Just messin with you. What a great learning experience and I think you did a fair job of pricing the books out as a buyer. Sometimes with collections like that you have to take the rose colored collector glasses off and think of it a work. That was a great point that most people don't think of especially if your not a big time seller. Cost of extra materials, extra time, on what platform to sell, will some get pressed, will some go to cgc and the extra cost for that as well. Great video. Congrats on 1500 subs. I think if I'm still making videos in 25 yrs I may hit 1k. Lmao. 😂 👊🏼
hahaha...you're the one that sends me the dad reels on Instagram that prove my points lol! And that's the phrase I was looking for, "rose colored collector glasses" I'm glad I left them at home! Plus I gotta save for when we hang at Terrificon! If you were my only sub I'd be fine with it my friend. I am proud, but humble and grateful for friends like you
Good afternoon Brandon For you , you made the right Choice, but to we comic starved Aussies they would have been GONE in a flash. But I know full well the time and effort required. But for around a dollar a comic the value of those comics here in Oz would be around 16000 aud. As a example, the city of Sydney has a population of over five million folks. It has two comic shops 40 klms apart, in neither shop would you buy those comics. Keep up the great work Brandon, you do it so well. Cheers Al Thegoldketfourcolorkidowbunda
I definitely realize it was a decent lot but I can’t sacrifice the time with my family, nothing is worth that unless it’s a steal lol. Maybe someday I’ll luck out and get one cheap and if it doesn’t, that’s ok. I’ve found some great resources online to procure the books I want. Thank you as always Alan and happy Sunday!
I’m glad I’m not alone in liking story time videos. I’ve learned about a couple comic podcasts but there are UA-camrs who tell stories very well so I just keep my phone in my pocket and listen to them through my AirPods. Appreciate you listening and hope to bring you more stories!
The longer I thought about this the more I feel I made the right call. It would have taken so long to move all of it and I just don’t have the space 🤷🏻♂️
In my area I've never been to an estate sale or anything like that. I deliver for fedex and ask about comics at garage sales i see. But never found comics. I would have passed on that for 1600. Always got to remember supply costs as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Dude, I feel like we're living in similar abyssal places in NY for collections. These just don't pop up in our areas. It would have been a lot of work. Package incoming this week for you brother
Nothing wrong with walking away from something that wasn't what you expected. The worst feeling is that buyer remorse thing and being stressed to turn over some of those books to break even. I think you did well and hey you put in an offer that was realistic for you. Very cool video Brandon with a lesson in it for people in the hobby that might get stars in their eyes over something like this.👍
Hey thanks Eric! I am happy to report I will have a video coming out this week where a Craigslist post that led me to a garage sale worked out really well. Always appreciate you watching my friend!
I'm 65 and retired, so I have plenty of time, but given the price and from what I saw....I would have passed...I have a Dr Strange #1 in a mid-grade...maybe we can talk...stay safe Brandon!
I'll drop the link here but if it doesn't work it's under my "Live" tab. Thanks for coming over and checking my channel out, and it can't rain all the time...
I definitely would.have passed at $1600. I'd love to know where that price came from. I probably would be a buyer at $500, but even then it seems like you would sit on most of those run filler books for a long time waiting for the right buyer to appear. I think you were right to pass. This was a cool video. I liked your explanation of the process and your experience at this estate sale.
I’m guessing they searched eBay sold and picked the highest raw prices for most of these books and probably ended up around $1000. Then figured with almost 1k more comics that $1600 was a fair price, which it was not. There were 3 other long boxes with decent keys but you’re right, lots of fillers. Thanks for finding this informative and cool my friend!
Very informative video. Another thing you have to ask yourself do you have room to store these in your home without tripping over them? Maybe another question would be if you spent $1,600 on a couple of books you really wanted? That might have been a better investment. You showed a lot of good books too and didn't have to spend any money except on gas maybe a hamburger on the way home. All in all I think you made a very good decision. Are you going to be a pure collector or businessmen? Some people do not have a real good head for business and some people have the Midas touch. And you still got a show out of it with very good content for comic book collectors to consider.
So I definitely have the room, so that wasn’t a problem. I felt if I got them at the $650 I stayed I could have definitely turned it into a much bigger book I wanted. I’m a collector first but if an opportunity presents itself to make some good money with something I enjoy, I’m very open to it. If you scroll down my Instagram page you’ll see I used to sell A LOT of vintage toys so shipping logistics, advertising, and everything that encompasses flipping a collection wouldn’t have been a problem. It all comes down to that precious time, which is something I don’t have a lot of. Thanks for checking it out and weighing in, Steve.!
@Moncomics I'm not very good at doing all that stuff. I just like messing around with the books and enjoying other people's collections on youtube. I've never been a real big x men fan or a spider man fan myself, But I'll read the occasional book of the title here and there.
For the record, you went right by the early X-Men in the 80's-90's. Those in higher grade are in the $50 range....#112 is $80 or so...201 (Cable baby!) is $45...256 (Second Gambit) is $40...267 (Psyclocke becomes ninja chick we all know today). $30. Wolverine 1 ongoing ...$70-100. Limited Series #1...$100. X-Factor #1...$25...Two apocalypse firsts...$70. And there was 70's Marvel Horror which is a good $20 as well. And that was one box. Shit, I woulda walked out of there with it if I knew this was there. Understandable that you can't grind it out like I do....and it *IS* a lot of grunt work...But worth it in the end. I went to an estate sale a few weeks ago. I did so because I was told by the estate sale guy that there were four boxes of books and they were $5 apiece. Well shit. That means they must be old ones! I got there an hour and a half early, was second in line, knew where the books were and those babies were coming home with me. I get to the basement where they were supposed to be, and oh yeah. They were there. Four boxes about6-8 inches high, filled with mostly damaged 80's and 90's books. I mean $5 for old Marvel Two In Ones is ok I guess...But they don't sell well and I have the complete run. So I was a little tweaked after having driven over an hour to see this crap. I then hit up another estate sale that had about four stacks of comics shown. 70's early 80's stuff including Gold Key books n such. Figured I may as well take a swing at it. Yeah they were gone. THIS is why I rarely go to estate sales. And here you are turning your nose up to the blessingsa you were offered. Must be nice. And twenty minutes away too! One thing though, my friend. I was having serious cringe moments when I watch you take expensive books like Wolverine #1 and try to cram it back into the box one handed. I'm sitting here sweating as I watched it like a whore in church. Get a Go Pro dude! LMAO
Thanks so much for the comment man, you do raise some good points. All those keys you named are a good example of why I didn't buy it, I am not familiar with most X-Men keys which adds another layer to my decision making. I envy the fact that you can grind it out to sell books. If you scroll down on my Instagram page far enough you'll see thousands of vintage toys I sold years ago on the regular...before I had kids lol. No one is lying when they say they change everything, and it's definitely for the best. I certainly didn't turn my nose up, I realized there were some goodies so that's why I took my chance and went. And again, I had to think of my family first before dropping that much money and time on something. If you watch the video again you'll see I pulled the books in front of Wolverine 1 so the books could drop back in, but admittedly I was rough with the X-Factor 1. I would invest in a hands free device if I did go to more of these but if you watch my other videos I primarily have to hunt my books online due to where I live. I'm 43 years old, collecting for quite some time and I have never seen a collection that was even good enough to talk about, as this one was so it's unlikely it will happen again. Thanks for watching and giving honest opinions, it's the only way we can get better as collectors and content creators.
good decision man def. not worth $1600.00, I am working on PC now trying to sell some of it as well. i've had a few offers that i felt were way to low though.
It’s been moved to Ofer my left shoulder so I cousin display some art given to me by community members. It makes me happy someone noticed it moved though lol. That will stay with me forever!
I bet the seller at that estate sale would have given that whole lot to Mike from Lunch Miney Comics for just 300-400 dollars. Mike knows how to talk and have that body language, vocal tonality, energy that can charm people so he can get what he wants from them. I work in PR, if you were to ask me for advice on how to have charisma so you can get the best deals and so that you can grow your subscribers more, I would easily recommend watching the Charisma On Command channel here in UA-cam. By watching your channel, I can say you have low energy and closed off body language and demeanor. You have to show a confident demeanor from the way you carry yourself, yo your body language, facial expression and even the way the you speak. it makes a difference! Watch the videos at Charisma On Command. Charlie, the guy who created that channel gives really good advice for me like you.
Ima tell you right now. Everything you said about Mike is absolutely true. He’s amazing. As far as the estate sale goes, no one was getting it for cheaper than what the estate sales manager set the price at. I don’t care if you’re as charismatic as Al Pacino. Second, I’m just a sad on here doing this for fun. Subscriber count means nothing next to the people and friends I meet. Thanks for your insightful input
@@Moncomics I know subscriber count means a lot to you. How did I know? If it didn't, you would not say "Pls. subscribe." See? I bet you are always checking your UA-cam analytics too. And if you want friends, You can meet them on Instagram, Facebook or at comic events, but you chose UA-cam, a platform that monetize and rewards high subscriber count. You do care about the numbers. You CAN grow your channel. You already have the means to be a succesful UA-camr like the big ones: Cartoonist Kayfabe, Comic Tropes, Comicstorian, ComicsTom101, Near Mint Collectibles, The Comics Den and a few others. But you have to study how they got there. You have to study the subtle things of how they tell a story and present themselves. Improve your energy, improve your vocal tonality and body language and by 2025 you'll gain 10k subscribers. Look closely at how your friend, Mike from LMC does his content. He has surpassed other comic book youtubers that came before him. Have you ever wondered why is that? It's the subtle things that he does. He's a master marketer. Mike actually has the same demeanor as ComicsTom if you observe closely at the way he says things.
$1600 is a lot for those that aren’t dealers. Surprise there wasn’t more interest. I would have passed but man if they weren’t selling the books as a lot you could have made out, but looks like seller wanted full value. Family always comes first, there be other opportunities.
Exactly! I don't have a shop or an outlet to move that volume, not right away at least. And yeah, if they were selling them individually I would have been cool with that. And yes, family first! Thank you my friend!
Hey, I think you made a fair offer there were no books that were worth quite a bit of money if they were some really good high-end books of course you would have paid him $1600. There were no really expensive books that you were showing so I wouldn’t pay him near $1600.. well I’m sure he got a much better offer because your offer was not that high.
I thank you for that. I was honestly afraid if I offered too much I'd win it and wasn't ready for a ton of work to make the money back. I'm sure he got a better offer and I hope the person who won it enjoys it. Thank you for watching!
@@marcovendetti3373 believe me, I understand you from what we saw there was not much of any value there was nothing close to high end or anything like that
@@marcovendetti3373 I would have liked to offer a lower number like that, but had a feeling they weren’t going to let them go for even as low as I offered. I’d say you made the right decision, it’s the supply cost and fees and shipping costs that all adds up without realising. It’s cool to go and see as you never know
It was a fun experience and I couldn't agree more my friend. Thanks for checking my adventure out!
Totally smart decision making.
hahaha, always message me about JIM 62 first lol! And thanks man, would have been fun but too daunting for my already hectic schedule!

I concur my friend…is it August yet?!
Really enjoyed this video, Brandon. I got subscribed to the channel at the right time! I think you nailed it on the pricing of the lot, I wouldn't have done anything any differently.
Wow, thanks man. It's comments like these that really make it more fun. I hope I continue to entertain you!
I am proud, but humble and grateful for friends like you
@@Moncomics Us nerd dads have to stick together. Lol. I'm honored to call you a friend. 👊🏼
Good afternoon Brandon
For you , you made the right Choice, but to we comic starved Aussies they would have been GONE in a flash.
I love storytimes, I'm usually listening to comic videos at work but unboxing vids are too visual. Hope to get more vids like this 🎉
I’m glad I’m not alone in liking story time videos. I’ve learned about a couple comic podcasts but there are UA-camrs who tell stories very well so I just keep my phone in my pocket and listen to them through my AirPods. Appreciate you listening and hope to bring you more stories!
Low offer but a good choice for the reasons you said. A ton of work selling most of that collection
As time goes by since this video I realize I made the right call too. I just love that Dr. Strange, probably because it's a Brunner cover!
I get with milestones; I just broke 100 subscribers a few days ago and I am estatic.
Congrats Matt! I thought I might have 3 people watch my stuff so I'm humbled to even be where I'm at! Thanks for watching!
oh! can you send that Crow link you mentioned in a previous video, i am a big Bruce,Brandon lee fan. I found you from Lunch money comics!! great show!

Good skip, Time + supplies would of jacked the price up
Thank you, couldn’t agree more
I definitely would.have passed at $1600.
Thanks man. And if it's not costing you to hold on to them and wait for a better price then don't be afraid to do so, I wouldn't give mine up easily!
Where's the Predator mask?

I would have offered $300 or $400 at the most.
@@marcovendetti3373 believe me, I understand you from what we saw there was not much of any value there was nothing close to high end or anything like that
@@marcovendetti3373 I would have liked to offer a lower number like that, but had a feeling they weren’t going to let them go for even as low as I offered. The company running it probably did the research and took the highest prices and likely told the owner “don’t take less than X.” Would have been interesting to know what they sold for.
