- Come with me on a Tour of the Boeing 737MAX cockpit. I will show you differences between the MAX and the NG and I will even start up the engine and show you some cool differences in the Jet Engine start sequence.
I just happened to find this empty Boeing 737MAX simulator littering around in a Simulator centre in London and thought I should take you for a tour when I had the chance. The video quality is not great in the beginning since I didn't have my normal camera kit with me but I think you will still get the point.
Enjoy!

Even parked at the gate, the simulator looks so life-like!
The presenter has a remarkable ability to explain complex aviation topics to non-experts. His presentations
make me wish I could book flights where he is captain. This also makes me wonder whether the general
public can find out the safety records of individual pilots before taking a flight.
Safety record? Like how many fatal crashes they've had in the past? 😅
12:41 He says starter cut out. How ever that is the voice recorder tick sound. Not the starter cut out. Starter cut out is when start valve open light extinguishes!
1 crash for every 11 million flights kid, calm down @@surideedesigns
"it's not like I'm just randomly starting an engine" hahaha :D
The cockpit may have its usual 60s technology but with a bit of an upgrade to 80s to current technology with those screens. Sort of like in star trek to star trek tng tech. :)
Hondalover3000 - It works really well, and it is a joy to fly..
@@ACPilot Ok cool.
William Jones-Halibut - As far as i know it is not because of the screens, but to make room for the FMS keypad and screen. Initial 737-100/200’s did not have that luxury back in the days.
The screens resolution and graphics quality looks more like an 80th Amiga Commodore at best... Not like 21st century.
auronoxe - It is a cockpit, not a TV.. 😂 Very nice displays, better layout and newer than on the A320 NEO..
As an aspiring pilot, thank you for a glimpse into the future of my career. Your videos are always very well explained and easy to keep focused.
what stage are you at now
Patxi's wife, Molly, is looking after the kids by herself while lucky old Patxi is still celebrating, dancing about, smoking tiny cigars and looking very pleased with himself!
Best informative flight channel 👍
Some of the biased channels on the MAX can get tiring. Appreciate your pure unbiased position when seeking info.
Thumbs up for the puppies by the end!
Hi mentour! Great video the new 4 screen layout was taken off the Dreamliner? And also to be implemented into the 777X I believe. Seen a lot of the 787 screens to recognise! Great vid hope boeing sort the 737M out soon!
The 777x will also have touchscreens.
Unfortunately, the technical problems are probably easier to fix than the lack of public confidence.
The Boeing 737 Max's reputation is now badly damaged just like the Douglas DC10's in the 1970s when the DC10 suffered some serious / fatal accidents due to a combination of design flaws, technical problems, maintenance errors, and pilot errors.
@@ysfsim uniformed median ???
Tubmaster 5000 - I think that’s better than the other way around. You can’t control public opinion, put you can control the technical issues. When they start flying again, most people who have qualms will get over it.
supertrix101 - Despite it’s reputation, the DC-10 remained in service for many years after its early troubles. People flew on it - even those like me who didn’t like it, because it took us where we needed to go. I feel much better about the 737 Max than I did about the DC-10. The Max is an excellent aircraft which had one horrible defect. It’s been fixed and it’s time to move on, in my opinion.
Big thing is most public can't tell and 800ng from an max 8.
Great video, love those cockpit videos!
And congrats to the puppies! Now I want a video of Mentour on his sofa, surrounded by all his puppies, trying to get his attention ;-)
Or a bunch of puppies in the cockpit - although I am afraid this is not allowed, not even in the simulator.
I love planes and I absolutely adore your videos. The cadence of your voice makes very complex information easy to understand :) thank you for all your videos :)
Thanks for the video. Congrats for the puppies! It seems to me those puppies will grow and become parents before the Max 8 flies again.
@Steve it sure has
As soon as I saw the announcement of some Paxti-action I jumped right to the end of the video. Sorry Mentour, but these dogs are just too adorable :)
What wonderful puppies you now have! Good luck with that and to the dear dogs too ;) I am thoroughly enjoying your channel! Good luck with it all!
Thanks for this cockpit video of B737 MAX with some additional updates.
Can you take the simulator for a quick spin around the block?
the simulator was built by $9/hour outsourced Indian engineers, so I guess Boeing itself doesn't know.
@@mipmipmipmipmip Most of these simulators are actually built in Canada by CAE. Boeing really doesn't build simulators themselves. At least not for commercial applications.
@@jpaufsc Yeah makes sense. I guess there's software needed to make sure Boeing's functionality is represented in a simulation, which is something that can only be done in assignment by Boeing according to their specs.
Thanks for a great video Mentour Pilot !
Thank YOU for watching
Omg I love that new logo with the animation at the beginning!
Love your explanations Fantastic, thank you so much for the time you give us explaining things, I love it, it is really amazing.
A note: the MOTORING segment of the CFM-LEAP startup is typically faster (a few seconds). The reason why the FADEC motors the engine longer in this case was because the engine was still hot from the previous shutdown (EGT initially shows 196 deg), and needs to cool down first to reduce the chance for a Hot Start
Keep up the good work Petter! Already liked as you’ve set such a high standard.
As always another fantastic video ! 👍💯👌
The doggies are cute!!!! Thanks for the videos always awesome
Molly's got babies! Awwwww! What does Patxi think of them! So sweet! Boys or girls? You got a houseful now, Petter! Congrats!
Paxti & Molly are so considerate to allow Petter to talk about planes on their doggie channel.
@@SpamMouse lol, indeed!
The NG is great. But still can't wait to get my hands on the max!
Great video Mentour i enjoyed it, hope you are having a good Summer.
It's always good coming from someone who know whats the actual situation is or who understands what could be the possible outcome.. The media says anything and everything
Brilliant video and explanation of the cockpit instruments. I admit that should the airline we use start the max in service I'd rebook for an another alternative..........unless you were the captain 😎👍
I personally would feel very safe on the Max when it comes back into service. After all the fixes and inspections by aviation experts the 737Max aircraft will probably be the safest aircraft in the sky. There is absolutely no way Boeing would allow one more of their aircraft to go down because they know they would never recover and all the airlines would take their business to Airbus. So I personally feel the 737max will be the safest aircraft in the sky, Boeing simply can not afford one more crash to happen or it's over for them. When the 737max comes back I will happily fly on one and I would feel safe putting my family on one.
Boeing’s 737 is only the *most successful and safest* jet aircraft series in history. But hey, you DO get a little more hip room on an A320....
Media conjecture and hyperbole do not make for an unsafe aircraft!
Operators pushing malfunctioning aircraft into continued service = problems.
Operators pushing for minimalist ‘Difference Training,’ will inevitably get what they paid for.
I was wondering why the EGT was noticeably higher during engine start. Then I noticed the TAT +99C! Man that’s hot! Gotta love simulators cause there’s no way in hell I would ever work or live anywhere that hot!
Might have missed it if you mentioned it, but you can switch the engine instrument over to the FO and have the big nav display on CPT side.
Very interesting & interactive video awesome videos are coming these days just love to sath this channel awesome .....No pilot except captain joe makes so intresting videos like you I hope some day you both can collab and make some interesting video on Boeing.
Where's the Chemtrails On/Off switch? :D
🤣🤣🤣
Engine Master Switches: Chemtrail-Engine on = Producing Chemtrails. Side effect is thrust being generated :o)
Its on the aft overhead next to the 'excite gullibility' switch.
The CTU (chemical trail unit) engages automatically when you fly over your current mother in law or any ex-wife.
It is controlled from the ground and defaults on.
Check it out, whether you can switch the engine display to the FO's side, when the Captain is flying, that's the question which arises to me!
You can, just like on 787 :) i know some airlines has sop that it's the pilot flying having the Big ND, and pilot monitoring having ND/Engine
Great video! I'm going to be a pilot in the near future and i really enjoy your videos, keep it up👌
Your puppies are simply adorable. I truly enjoy watching your channel.
love your channel, really informative and interesting!
Thanks keep this good stuff up!
Last time I was this early, the 737 max was still flying
Great Mentour thank you looks amazing !
I love your videos - keep the coming!
Could you please talk about the economics of the planes being grounded? I mean this is a very expensive equipment rendered unoperational for it’s commercial user. How do Airlines and Boeing deal with that?
Good question. I’m wondering about that too.
And what happens to the pilots who don't get to do any flying.
M Von Smallhausen well if the airline had the NG they’ll be flying that. But if not then no idea
Boeing must to pay a very big money for the airline or very good offer the free service for long times !
They take heavy losses and have to rely on company assets to lighten the damage (savings, sell other planes, layoffs, etc)
We need a full podcast just on the dogs :)
Beautiful puppies. Glad all are doing well. 😍
Thank you so much for all your explainations and work!
1:55 space shuttle status. 😂
Mentour accidentally showed the airline livery. Realizing his mistake, he quickly turned his camera away. Haha.
Siddharth Pathak What time?
Never mind, found it at 13:40
Christopher Taylor obviously he works at Ryanair
s125ish Norwegian isn’t it?
True, a bit surprising... But the other thing that really surprised me was "There are other aircraft in the sim"?
And then the details of them too, so you did surprise me with that one Mentour :D
This sure ain’t the same as a P3 Orion cockpit that I worked on as an avionics tech in the early 70s. I really enjoy your videos. I have flown on many different types of aircraft, fixed wing and rotary wing, traveling around Alaska for my job.
I have watched ice pilots DC3 4 .
Love the new intro graphics!
Wait, what?! Patxi is a dad?! Congratulations to Patxi and Molly!
oohh the puppies!
Really good video as always. Good explanation and c,ear.
Hey, thank you for your great videos ! In later years I have become afraid of flying even if I love it and am very interested about it. Could you please do an episode about things like turbulence, how much puninshment an airliner can take and other nasty experiances of the unknowing scared people ?
Cute pups.
Nice video. Interesting to see the time needed for the engine to start. Thanks. Beautiful puppies! :) Greetings from Norway.
Well done as always
Yay always love new content
Would you be happy flying this 737
If boeing does nothing to make the
Manual trim wheel easier to turn
Amazing captain! Greetings from Argentina!
It’s finally back in the air 😁😁
Nice video your my favourite captain
This aircraft has gone under more scrutiny than any other aircraft has. However, I completely understand why. The good news is now that the aircraft has been cleared to be put into service in the USA and Europe, it will be the safest aircraft in the sky bar none!
This aircraft doesn't even have an Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) which is mandatory since years for new planes but got lobbied away somehow. No, this absolutely is not the safest plane and it definitely never will be as Boeing already made clear that they never ever will upgrade the 737 MAX cockpit to current safety standards.
I also think part of the problem is all of the airlines and the FAA must be looking at this problem is it is the second
airplane to have been grounded first the 787 Dreamliner and now the 737 Max but at least the 787 Dreamliner had no fatalities
so i thin Boeing is having to be more exact with the fix for the 737 Max just my view
Thank you So much for uploading this video
That’s one incredibly nice iPad you’re sitting in, Petter! (“But they do all their MAX training on an iPad!”) A Level-D iPad, I presume? 😜
Trying to decide whether this means you are getting prepared to transition to the MAX fleet, or perhaps it is just a little easier to get access to the MAX simulators right now. Maybe it’s both... 🤔
Congrats on the puppies! (You mean your First Officer hasn’t spent all his time passed out on the sofa? Who’da thunk it!)
And now it's just a very expensive car.
What software did you use to create your intro graphic?
It's lovely.
Like blabla said, I doubt he made it himself, there's tons of his fans that are artists so someone probably made it for him.
In terms of software, I'm 99% sure it's Adobe After Effects with a plugin called 'Element 3D' by Video Copilot.
@@ShainAnimations Fair point. Thanks.
All cool and beautiful display
Really looks good. Looking forward to flying it.
Maybe the reason for the EGT overheat was the 99°C TAT
Not a single mention of MCAS??
Hey, Mentour! Why did the TAT show +99C˚ when you started the engine? Great video by the way!
Best ending I’ve ever seen. Marvelous🙂 By the way, do you fly to DLM?
I want you to make your one day pilot life
A leading cause of death is being unable to handle the situation of newly exposed hidden edge cases within the uncompensated parameters that arise AS A RESULT OF TOGGLING AUTOPILOT ON OR OFF. (mostly, OFF)
I.e. Air France 447 -- could have continued to fly _through the storm_ with AP ON and flight parameters resulting only from compensational feedback loop.
@@GVTSounds You're right about 447 *with an old aircraft only* but I am referring to the fix - i.e. flying a Boeing 828 with AP1, AP2, AP3, ((AP4)), RP1, ((RP2)) and AP3, AP4 have redboxed physical locality and flight sensors on isolated power, and AP3 cannot be disengaged unless Emergency is declared. If the plane is able to execute a disallowed procedure (while not in declared Emergency and before control by AP3 and RP1 or RP2 OR AT ANY TIME by RP2 and AP3 or AP4) without arresting the pilot, it means that the procedure was never specified to begin with.
Could you show us the MCAS operation as it still exists before any software fixes are implemented. Then another video after the software fixes, microprocessor fix, autopilot fix, and runaway trim fix so we can verify its safe to fly in ?
Pupper made more puppers!!! How cute!!
Let’s hope it’s safer even it returns to service
Fascinating video, as always, Petter. But no way in the warm place am I ever flying on one, no matter what they do to fix it.
I've always wanted to pull back on the reverse thrust; that must be an assuring feeling!
It helps take pressure & heat wear & tear on brakes in main gear.
Great channel, beautiful puppies!
Do jet engines experience extra wear when not running for prolonged periods as on the currently grounded 737max fleet? Thank you.
No abnormal wear whatsoever. Having said that, most of the operators of the grounded aircraft are doing periodic engine runs to keep the engine seals/components etc. lubricated. They will have many checklists to go through, and many hours of work to get an aircraft ready for flight after such a long time being out of service (estimates are between 100 to 150 hours of prep work, per aircraft).
@@trellofello7473 Yikes, that's a lot of man hours.
Is the information displayed on the screens interchangeable between screens? What if one of them gets damaged during flight?
I observed some of the information was being displayed only on one screen. In short , there must be some redundancy in information display system. I would like to know about it.
If you look where he pressed the "info" button to change the co-pilots display there is a selector knob that allows you to change what each of the inner displays, display.
Yes it works exactly as you suggest. One screen goes down and you can put it on another display. Pretty sure (not familiar with the max but with other plane) you could lose 3 of 4 and still have all the info you need
You can switch data between the screens..
Then you revert to the days before technology dominated planes and fly old school
@@scottyweimuller6152 That is a strange statement. A plane is technology.
Nice vid... thank you... I have a question: what kind of simulation software is being used for the outside graphics?
Very informativ.. Thank you
shouldnt the MAX start to melt, because its 99C?
Very very safe plane. Now that it's grounded.
Just sitting on one now, hopefully they are all good 👍
Great Video
You could have shown the stab trim cut-off switches, since they've been changed from the NG and they're involved in the whole MCAS situation
Very nice video nonetheless, still nowhere near as cool as the CS/A220 cockpit but a good refresh...just looking at the cockpit you wouldn't say it's a 60+ years old plane
For the stab trim cut-ff switches, please see 13:57 .
The stab trim cut off have been in the same place since original B737s.. and still in the Same place in the MAX
@@trenesdecolombiaPabloHiguita they've been changed in function. On the NG each one did a different part of cutting out electric stab trim control (one was for the autopilot side of thing, the other for the electric trim on the yoke). On the MAX now they both cutoff everything, and one is the primary and the other is just the backup.
It's pretty crucial in the whole ET302 case if you've read the report
Nav freq displax changed in the pedestal
When the engine was starting, why TAT was +99 C ???
Probably an error in previous session, the simulator was not reset.
Some quick research, AC buses must be on, an a/c pack needs to be running and if on the ground pitot heat must be off before valid readings from the instrument.
I’ve flown on the max over half a dozen times nice aircraft very smooth
The dogs are so cute!
I flew Boeings and buses (a320 and 747s) and Boeing's cockpits always stood head and shoulders above airbuses. quality , design , feel and finish. Airbuses with their plastic covers and huge panel gaps always felt like some third grade cheapness. Its like comparing Bentley and Kia.
Interesting but to be honest, to my passanger's mindset this planetype would need also structural redesigning not just software changes before I would be ready to fly with it.
Quite agree
"The new engines are great, but they're quite delicate". Well, that's reassuring! 😂 Just kidding, I knew what you meant!
High quality video and explanation. As everything Mentor does. Thanks. @phelps
Hopefully it gets back into the air
And doesn't crash ever again
Sebastian Contreras - Oh don’t worry. Some incompetent bastard will find a way to stuff one.
I won’t be impressed until the dash has a coffee dispenser.
Hahaha! True! I shall bring that forward.
It should be a required safety feature. Just make sure that nobody puts decaf in it. ☕ 😊
Nice Office!
The 1960s are in there, they have used Futura in quite a few places of this new plane. This font was also used all over the space programme back in the day. Although it’s a nice font (timeless and geometric, designed in 1928, Bauhaus), one would really design a custom font these days that works particularly well on screen. There is really no reason to make everything look like some sort of terminal mode basic pixelated font stuff. Even if it needs to be very basic - maybe it’s more stable this way - the fonts could be changed. The choice of font matters even in a car when it comes to reaction speed. How long it takes you to read something is just quite vital, especially on an aircraft.
