First time I used drafting film was drawing the zebras in your book, & absolutely loved it! Drafting film & the slice tool, are like bread & butter......perfect together 👌
Thank you for all you share with us 🙏 x
thanks, Bonny, always enjoy your tips videos. Beautiful painting as always
Thank you Bonny your work is amazing
This is good advice. I like the effect on dura lar/drafting film but have learnt the hard way that you can’t do that many layers. It’s nice if you want to work quickly though and vibrant but I found I had to be disciplined and plan carefully as there’s limited scope for alterations. Beautiful drawing.
Wow. This is incredible!😮
Thanks, Bonny, very helpful.
Wonderful, such a beautiful drawing, which I will attempt to recreate once your Academy doors open up again. I also like drafting film for botanical illustrations. The amazing detail on bark and branches and leaves is amazing. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much 🥰
I'm going to try that paper
So nice ❤❤
Unbelievable, so realistic! The Most realistic artwork I have seen.
I tried out Graphic film, but had so many troubles with it.
Very big advantage is the smooth look without grainy look. But…
Problem 1: black looks greyish, the colours seem to be weak, so I had to strenghten them on the back side and that‘s double work.
Problem 2: to create a blurry background. My areas got streaky, overlapping and blending colours together didn‘t work well when burnishing (Need burnishing to get intensity which is very weak although)
Problem 3: Erasing, I can erase but not draw over it because the „tooth“ are gone. After erasing the surface is totally smooth, pigments adhere hardly. How could that be?
Problem 4: Layering, I Van create 2-3 layers then it’s over. Highlights have to be separeted or scratched. Ok, that is on paper, too.
Problem 5: How could I sell this? A single, flimsy sheet of film
Maybe you can give me tipps here. My first thought was that I bought the wrong film but it’s dura lar matte 005…
Hi Emily! First time for me too with drafting film and maybe cause I had high expections, I’m not happy with it. I find hard blending the colors, and due to the few layers, slice tool didn’t work :( (I’m working on light/creamy/white labs with pale gray shadows, so few amounts of dark) I know, to answer at one of your question, that when finished, you could attached your drafting film on every kind of surface and colors and it will appear through the drafting for a nice effect
It does take a bit to get used to. I find that the more oil based pencils need to be the main ones Polychromos or the Pablos. I go a level darker because it can look like it isn’t there. if one uses luminance pencils it would be just that layer and that’s about it because they just don’t seem to grab as well as the Polychromos. One the bright side , the sheets are large and not as expensive as other substrates. It really makes me think about which pencil to use and typically I run out of dark browns, burnt sienna and greys. Best of painting wishes, it will work out. ❤
Absolutely wonderful and thanks for sharing. One request: please share a link where I could purchase the slice tool that you use in your drawings. Yours looked wonderful. Thanks.
I have it linked in my free materials guide here 🥰 www.bonnysnowdonacademy.com/materials-guide-free-pdf-guide
Thank you so much@@BonnySnowdonAcademy
Very interesting and very nice drawing! Do you ever use a white pencil over dark instead of the slice tool?
If I'm working on Pastelmat, then yes 🥰
@@BonnySnowdonAcademy Thank you Bonny. I should have been more specific - I meant regarding on the drafting film?
For some reason, I can never get a craft knife/slice tool to remove the colour pencil. I've tried a couple of different tools and 3 different sorts of paper, but it does little to nothing. Is draft film the key?
Watch this video 🥰 I share a way to allow you to remove the pigment ua-cam.com/users/shortsUBhoPFtRjqg
Thank you once again for some great tips. I was wondering what type of pencil is best to use with drafting film? Non wax based or waxed based?
They have an element of wax I like polychromos and luminance 🥰
Quel est ce cutter s’il vous plaît ? Céramique ? Merci😉
have you a basic colour under the black fur? and what paper is it here :) ?
good video thank you
Usually I add warm or cool colours under the fur. The surface in drawing on is drafting film 🥰
@@BonnySnowdonAcademy thx you🤗
What type of erase do you use and is it available on Amazon?
This is a Tombow Mono Eraser and yes it's available on Amazon 🥰
quelqu'un peut m'expliquer ce qu'est un drafting film?
Drafting Film is a sort of sturdier and thicker version of tracing paper. It's smooth and allows you to see through it 🥰
