I seriously loved how Alex Garland ties Pollock's instinctual painting into themes of human instinct in Ex Machina. Smart ass writing.

Ofc the pollock in the film at the beginning is displayed in the wrong orientation 🤓🤓🤓
Pollock is my fav along with Kandinsky. What about a Kandinsky video? Perhaps the race to abstraction or the Bauhaus.

Do you think that about all abstract art, or just Pollock?

What exactly is fraudulent about his work? Because you don’t find anything appealing about it, or because it doesn’t communicate anything to you, it makes him a fraud? Do you need art to represent something? Tell a story, or depict something that exists in reality? There are great works of music from the last 400 years that are abstract and meaningless. Does Beethoven’s 4th symphony have any meaning? Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto? Any number of works by Brahms to Stravinsky, Haydn to Hindemith? Are all of these composers frauds? Fooling the public into believing they have created something meaningful and important? No. But when you don’t see something representational in a painted work of art, that you are able to enjoy or personally be moved by, the artist is a fraud. I really don’t have any idea what you actually think, or what was behind your comment, but feel free to let me know if I’m wrong.
