  • Been a long time coming but I finally took a big step in my 13th Century Teutonic kit and tailored the sleeve. I hope this proves to be a good resource for anyone who may have been looking into this project. Comment, subscribe, and thanks for watching.

I've been working on putting together a 13th century Teutonic kit as well and I've gotta say, videos like this have been a huge help! My mail shirt just arrived last week and one of the first issues I noticed was the sleeves being way wider than necessary, but I remembered that you had this video and now the tailoring is well underway and hopefully soon I'll have some better fitting sleeves! Thank you!

Dear good Sir! I'd like to know more of how you have done it! My questions would be: how did you find out the correct circumference around the shoulder? By that I mean for the vest part of the mail. What was the lowest armpit point? What was your armpit junctioning method? Horizontal or "V" or other? Why i ask is because I have also wizard sleeves on that I made, but every time I try to tailor it, the bottom midline along the under arm part gets tight and excess material is present at latissimus dorsi or pectoralis maior when flexing the shoulder. Even if I let my arm simply down by my side there is material extrusion between my arm and thorax, and circular tension ariseing from my acromion. I would kindly ask xou to elaborate in detail if possible, please!

This was immensely helpful. I'm not looking to tailor my sleeves persay but am going to be tailoring the body of my maille coat. I'm reenacting a 7th century frank and the maille shirt I'm wearing needs to be thigh length which it is but with no riding slits I find it binds a lot when I make long strides or crouch down so I intend on cutting slits and adding gores to the skirt section to facilitate movement more easily while at the same time taking in the chest so it fits closer to the body to help mitigate that unflattering pudge gut look maille so commonly gives its wearer lol again thank you for your upload and deus vult! If I wasn't a frank from austrasia I'd be a teutonic Ritter Bruder from Lothringen.

Well done. What you haven't done are armpit extensions. The reason for them being added is that whenever you raise your arm up, you also pull the entire mesh on your torso side. That adds the effort of lifitng a shield or a weapon up and tires you faster.
