      Rough cost estimate would probably be around $1400 if you bought everything. Making certain parts can lower the cost. I made some and traded for things as well. Out of pocket this kit has cost me... Right around $700 which isn't bad.

    Great video. You said wool for the surcoat would have been more accurate historically, however, I talked to someone on Facebook a while back when I was making my Templar surcoat and he said that both linen and wool would have been common historically. It depended on the climate I think in which the person who would be wearing it lived or was at any point in time.

    • @teutonicpenguin9593
      @teutonicpenguin9593  4 роки тому +9

      Yeah I've heard debate on it. I personally like linen more and it can get pretty hot even up in the Midwest. So I go linen.

    • @A_Moustached_Sock
      @A_Moustached_Sock 4 роки тому +3

      With Templar linen was a fairly popular choice given the climate. They even reference the choice of switching to linen being allowed for knights of the order in their code to live by

    Were the arm plates standard for all knights, or is this a specific impression? I have not seen many others that wear those plates in primary or secondary sources.

      Those are called ailettes, and they were used for a short time in the late 13th and very early 14th century. There’s debate over whether they were protective or purely for heraldry purposes, and what they were made from.

My mail is 9mm mild steel riveted but my coif is 10mm mild steel riveted. My current helm is 16 but i might trade it and get a 14 gauge.

      A bunch of the Kult of Athena stuff is not available, but if you were looking for a good 13th century gambeson I found a good one on medieval-market .com called Morgan Bible Gambeson, although the historical linen padding option is very expensive. I plan to get it stuffed with felt instead. Also that same site has arming caps too and linen undergarments. Although I would personally rather make them so that they fit me perfectly. Don't know where I will get mail chausses yet though.

    It's probably the cosplayer in me, but as beautiful as the surcoat is. It just looks too clean to me. I wanna weather it to be all worn in and dirty lol. Even just something subtle would look so damn good imo. Knock down that pristine white a bit.
