  • this makita belt sander needed quite a bit if work, but still worth fixing. These are a 500 euro sander and built to last a lifetime.
as everyone who used them will know by the weight of them.

Thanks for that one Dean, have fixed a few of those, they can reach quite a state before they get attention.

Got the MakTec version (150€ MiC) of this sander after my smaller Makita (75mm) broke after I changed its` brushes. Works fine so far with the belt nicely staying on track.

Do you keep extra broken tools as parts items to grab things off of?

Another great video. Would be good to see a detailed video on the armature tester and how/what it does👌

I’d imagine this was a boarder line uneconomical repair Dean. With the cost of spares and a good repairman’s wages it must have been close on the price of a new one. But then the new units wouldn’t have the robust quality of this old girl who will sand away for years to come 👍🏼
Holy jeepers I’ve just watched the last few seconds of the video 😱 £150 for the rubber roller 😡 that’s just robbery from makita

That's list price, but yea it's still expensive. But this sander is still available to buy. They cost over 500 euro.
So this 200 euro repair agents paying 500 for a new one ant to bad.

I was thinking the same watching the video - what an uneconomical repair. But then when Dean mentioned the $$ of a new one it made sense. Even here in the US a new 9401 is $400 and you can be sure the quality isn’t as good as the one being repaired.

I've still got the ELU equivalent 4" belt sander with frame, 35 years old but has had an easier life than this machine. I guess i'll hang onto it for a while longer.

That looks like it's had the site mod, because a lot of sites won't allow 240v tools to be used what some people did was wire the 110v sockets on a transformer box straight from the 240v power flex going into it and then stick a 110v plug on the power tool then if anyone looked they would only see yellow plugs on all the power tool so in all intense and purposes they were all 110v and not 240v.

good idea, until someone plugs a 110volt machine into the 240v socket. fastest way to burn out a 110volt machine.

When I pull the tension arm to put on a new belt nothing happens. Is that a hard fix?

Hi there. I would LOVE to see a detailed view of the tool you used to get the bearing off the end with the plastic fan! It is SO far pushed on that I can't see how an tool can get purchase behind it to allow the press to lift it off. Every UA-cam video I have found so far neatly skips through that bit or magically jumps to the point where it is already off! Even a 25% speed playback doesn't seem to help! Many thanks in advance!

Nothing will grip when they are that tight.
What you do is, grip the bearing in a vice and tighten it until the bearing outer race shatters. (cover with a rag when breaking it). Now you have the inner race that you can get a set of bearing pullers clapped onto or you can take a grinder and grind down the inner race at one point to break the clamping force on the shaft. then you can simply pull if off by hand.

What would be the cause of the belt to keep slipping off this sander

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  3 місяці тому

There is a knob on the side to track the belt. Sometimes they go missing ow wear out

Many thanks
