    Now that’s what I call announcing your presence with authority! Ron, I came across your channel a few months ago and subscribed. Been watching ever since and appreciate all that you do to serve. You are a great example of how we are to walk in the Light. Treating everyone from customers, authorities, employees, and your family with respect, kindness and grace...you are a treasure! God Bless and be safe!

    Hello ladies and gentleman and as always thank you for watching. My apologies for the poor camera angle on this video. Apparently I bumped the camera and it is angled downward. I did the best I could with the editing, but I, too, found myself trying to tilt my head to see above the camera's screen. At the time, I was focused on the job, rather than the camera angle, which is as it should be in my opinion. Job and safety first....video second. Anyhow, I will be more mindful of the camera position in the future. Also, there are a lot of people who are not educated on Missouri's Emergency Vehicle statutes. In Missouri we are part of the Emergency Services community. Here's a link to help explain: revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=304.022&bid=34605&hl=
    Thanks for watching and God bless.

    Ron we had an accident on I - 27 on the north side of Lubbock this past Saturday in an icy situation where a failure to “SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER” along with the lack of speed control cost the lives of a Firefighter and a Police Officer who were working an accident. Another Firefighter is still in the hospital fighting for his life. Thank you for your continued efforts on your videos asking drivers pay close attention to our first responders who are working accidents.

    May already have been mentioned. On the rescue squad we used a toggle switch to switch the steering wheel horn button to control the siren through a relay to handle the siren's amperage. Used to drive ambulances with Federal Q's - Great siren. You can hear them further than ANY electronic siren. They can really move the traffic.

    Love the siren, old school!!!! Dealing with traffic and onlookers is always a challenge, maybe 20 % of cars and trucks slow down or try to move over here in the GTA (Toronto), the majority of them just speed by as fast as they can upset that you slowed them down. Although we all love doing recoveries we want to make it home safe to our families, PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER, no matter what state or county you're from. Thank you. Ron thanks for sharing your recoveries with the world, always fun to watch and learn from. Cheers from Canada.

      The problem is in fact not related to traffic.
      Its the general attititude amongst people in todays society - and is kind of the dark side of the modern civilisation.
      We have to be aware of so many things that can - and will - delay our tasks all day round, whilst demands on doing a quick and efficient job are high.
      Thats why we zoom by like this, zoom the red lights, zoom the railroad level crossings and keep driving speedy.
      We have learned to set ourself first to avoid getting punished on the job.

    Ron, I enjoy watching your videos, but, I was surprised that you didn't lift the auger up to load it on the trailer, by picking on the axle. After all, that's where it is supported when in use.... And by picking up by the axle, you could have swung it out of line (perpendicular) so the boom wouldn't have been in the way. Just my observation....

    Happy New Year Ron , from the UK.
    Another fantastic and unusual job.
    What surprises me is that such a device would never be allowed on a UK road, never mind a motorway (interstate). The conveyor was totally unstable. Furthermore, in the UK, the police would almost certainly closed the road until recovery was completed to ensure people such as yourself are protected. In this case, your life and that of your colleagues were put at risk, because they didn’t want to use a low loader.
    Stay safe!! I look forward to another vid from Scott City in due course.
    Best Wishes Roy W

    @tiredoldmechanic1791 5 років тому +1

    It looks like the conveyor either unhooked from the tow vehicle and rolled to the side of the road or got too close to the guardrail and the axle caught and tore the hitch loose. When the wheel hit the guardrail it caused the end with the hitch to swing into and get caught under the guardrail. That caused the conveyor to swing around 180 degrees and slam into the guardrail tearing the wheel off. The damaged tire that remained on the trailer would have been the first to hit the guardrail. The chute that was towards Ron's truck would have been to the rear originally. Think of that swinging around across both lanes. It was probably just luck if no other vehicles were involved.

    Q's have such an amazing sound! I used to be a paramedic and the squad I drove had a Q. Someone in their infinite wisdom installed the switch on the floor behind where the hood latch was. I was a n00b when we were called to a home at 4am with family requesting no lights or sirens. I was sent out to move the rig and accidentally hit the switch. No idea where the brake was or how to use it. Every house on the street knew we were there. We laughed about it later, though. Any mistake after that was minor in comparison.

      All our engines have the foot switch, people hit it accidentally all the time but that's the only valid reason to use the siren brake... It is also only powered when the emergency master switch is off so if the lights are off then the siren is too...

    Possible repeat suggestion for the Q, what about push buttons on the the stick, or steering wheel? Stick might be easier if you can find an Eaton or custom handle with them on top similar to the older cruise buttons they had.
    Keep it all comin!!! And more Q footage! Wish we could see folks faces when the hear it and see you roll through!!

    Your other sirens, I’ve never seemed to like the sound of them, but that Q... thats what I’m talkin’ ‘bout!!!
    Also I feel like your other sirens aren’t that loud, if they were loud like the Q maybe people could hear them better and get out of the way? Not sure.

    Loving the Q Ron. You could if you want, look into putting in a relay switch like fire trucks have that you can operate the Q from your steering wheel horn button. That way it will be closer and easier to use for you. When I drove fire trucks, there was a rocker switch on the dash to switch the horn button to operate the horn, electric siren and the Q depending on the position you have the rocker switch in. Just a suggestion to look into to help keep more concentration on the driving. Stay safe my friend. I enjoy the video's.

      P R heavy wreckers need to be manuals. When that rotator is empty it probably weighs 70,000 pounds or so. When it's loaded 130 easy. Needs a good 18 speed manual

    • @jaysmith1408
      @jaysmith1408 4 роки тому +2

      P in our apparatus, the driver drives, the officer runs the sirens, and uses the radio. Many tankers are still standards. From what i was advised from the Tanker Reps (being on commercial chassis, they can readily be made with standards, the custom chassis’ cannot) the main reason for automated manuals (a concession) and automatics (what the hell a five speed automatic is doing in a 30 tonne rig, I have no idea) is the learning curve for the drivers. Not so much a problem for Missouri or Iowa departments, but for our area, I’m the only one at our station who regularly drives 10+ speed transmissions. Having a truck that only one person can drive is not feasible, even at a career station.

      @@jaysmith1408 Surely a High end Alison Automatic would be up to the task?
      That's what they have in those very large and very heavy fire trucks, which when fully loaded would give the wrecker a run for its money on weight.
      Almost all Modern fire engines, and Airport ARFF Trucks are Automatics these days, and the ARFF trucks especially would weigh a lot more than a Wrecker does.
      Large Military Vehicles like HEMTT's are also automatic. (for the military its more about being able to throw a n00b in there and have them drive in an emergency, but still).
      Bonus with a true Auto like the Alison is you dont have a clutch to worry about, so you can inch forward for as long as you like if you needed to.
      Torque Converter also allows for quicker acceleration from a stand still.
      Sure Manuals have their place and they do, but Auto's like the Alison's are catching up pretty quick and in some use cases are superior.

    I had one of those old motor drives on my squad car. I used a relay and had it so I could flip a 2-way switch (horn one way, siren the other) on the panel and use the horn ring to fire up the siren so I could keep both hands on the wheel. Much handier than reaching for a switch on the panel. I used a starter solenoid after I burned up a lighter solenoid.
