    It’s really nice using it at surge periods in downtown Dallas with no traffic. It keeps you in the surge or 5-10 mins from it after drop off Head back and get another one and repeat. You can do about 5-7 trips with light traffic.

    Hey, that's great, Dallas area drivers. In LA, I feel like we'd have to start compromising our bonus hours. For example: the other day there was a bonus of $9 on every ride between 4 and 7 p.m. in the LA area, which typically spans much of LA with the exception of the South Bay, Valleys, way way into East LA, etc. It also does not include going to the airport (rather I should say you have to drive out of the airport toward either Marina del Rey or elsewhere to get back in the zone and that wastes time) so you'll suddenly find those start popping up one right after the other because we're all trying to keep the bonuses back to back. I feel like with bonus hours, they would not allow you to just stay in a bonus zone for two hours if that should pop up. I always feel like we just have to keep playing these games with the app to keep it even somewhat profitable.

    I was already doing this with the destination filter...it's nothing new to me. Secondly, it's also worthless if the bonus is paltry and is below$5. As a driver in the metro Los Angeles are and gas prices hovering@ $6 per gallon. $1 per mile and $8 per hour time compensation is not worth my time and effort. Uber needs to increase all 3 factors...time, distance and bonuses!

    • @ritchyrich7106
      @ritchyrich7106 2 роки тому

      I was already using a destination filter with a 1.5 hour arrival preference. I was accepting rides going into my destination
      I found this helpful esp when they have a $4 bonus on every trip within the Altadena, South and Pasadena areas. Short distance trips within 4 miles and a bonus of $4 doubles your $1 per mile pay. Again area preference is worthless if your bonuses are closer to a $1. It's insulting and I don't understand why they take the time and trouble to add it on the map!!!

    Plandemic, get it right.
    Uber constantly coming out with shit pretending to care,UBER DOESN’T CARE!
    Uber constantly wants us drivers to do trips that we normally would not do.
    When we accept the trip just tell us all the information on the trip, let us drivers decide, but they don’t do that, their game is constantly keeping drivers in the dark.

    I am a full time Uber driver in the Dallas area. I use the area filter all the time. It is great for reducing the total miles we drive, especially in DFW,which covers an enormous area. The areas are too large and need to be reduced. We also need to have the feature all day, not just for 2 hours. I turn off the filter as soon as I receive a trip. I also put a stop request in place. This allows me to use the filter for a much longer period. I was tired of driving 80,000 + miles per year, and having to dead head massive amounts of miles to get out of slow areas. The filter has made things more efficient. I only wish the coverage area was smaller, and we we could use the filter at all times. The 2 hour limit makes it dangerous to turn the filter on and off while driving. Though it works very well in reducing overall mileage driven a day. I still drive over 200 to 250 miles on most days. Though before the filter, I was frequently driving 300 to 450 miles a day. DFW area is huge. Previously, Uber was sending me on trips to slow areas, then I would receive trips taking me further out. It was not uncommon to be taken 70+ miles away from home, with no trips available. The area filter helps reduce it somewhat. I still have to deadhead out of slow areas, just not as often, and not as far away.

      Hi, Bryan. I'm in the Dallas area but my Uber app doesn't have that option. I only have: connect, deliveries, Uber pet and Uberx/pool . Which version do you have? Thanks 👍🏻

    • @bryandavis8789
      @bryandavis8789 2 роки тому

      @@andres.c If you scroll down below the different types of rides, you should see a heading called trip filters. There will be 2 choices. The first is area filter. The 2nd is rider rating preference. When you open the area filters, there will be 6 areas to choose from. Each area covers a large area, though it is good for keeping you from being taken too far away from your comfort zone. We can use them now for 2 hours a day. What I do is turn on the filter to the areas I prefer to work. Then once I get a trip request, I turn it off to preserve my time. I wish Uber would allows us to use the area filters all the time. It is a great tool to help keep our mileage down. For as you know DFW is huge, and the algos love to take us further, and further away from home. I love this feature. I just wished they would make the driving areas of each area smaller. I think DFW is the test market for this feature. It is a great tool.

    This is easily thee quickest way to have underserved communities / black areas without drivers or big surges. People already notably avoid the “hood” so if there’s a option to avoid these areas altogether with a preference, there will be less drivers in these areas and larger surges. As these areas can have a bad ratio of bed interactions to good interactions, among the stereotypes that already make many fear the area. This just looks like a recipe to rid the service away from particular communities.
    While it’s a 2 hour daily thing, that may help out to stop people in worse off areas from getting drivers. But if the company sees success in this, it would stick around and become full time thing or something given to top level drivers. But especially coming from a LA market, I only see this harming the underserved areas of the city.

    I wish it was standard like how door dash is. Really it's the same thing, door dash has the area you're in broken into areas and that's just how they set theirs up. Uber has Mr going all over the place. One end of town to the other. There's no rhyme or reason so it and I'm not able to really pin point the best places to drive beecause I'll start by my house and end up on the complete opposite side of town by the time I'm done! Hope Uber decides to do this for everyone and not just platinum or diamond 🤷

      @@davidwirsh4992 I usually drive the Jeep, but lately I've been driving the BMW more. I would rather use the BMW for upgraded rides (and more for Lyft Lux), but I've been doing regular rides with it. Sucks, but I fill up with $60 in that and I can drive for two nights instead of using the Jeep at $80 for ONE NIGHT! I would get around 220miles of driving the Jeep - making a little over $1 per mile all night and getting maybe $250. Profit of just $170 for 8hrs.
      Using the BMW, I use maybe $30 in fuel and get the same $250 for the night. But I get passengers that REALLY shouldn't be using the BMW for service. I've had to decline people trying to "move" in the middle of the night with bags of clothes and tubs of bathroom items. I'm not putting that on my leather seats. Nope. Not ruining $1,000 leather seats just to make $9. Hell no.
      Uber won't let me do Comfort because it's a 330i and not a 5-series BMW. Whatever. Lyft doesn't mind, so it's a lot of business rides and dinner rides. Airport rides, as well.
      No one is ruining their cars for pennies on the dollar right now. Plus with fuel being so high, people are doing other things like Instacart and Doordash to make more money per mile. Uber is paying $1/mile most of the time. Lyft Lux is like $3-5 per mile for me, so I do my best to do those - but you only get maybe 5 per night. But you still bang out like $200 in 2hrs with Lux.
      UberX? Shit, I'm making like $25-30/hr and that's WITH surges added. It's lame out right now. Very lame.

    Uber should help drivers for gas and tolls like a loan weekly for drivers just in case you don’t have sufficient funds on the go bank account , this Uber platform have millions of dollars 💵 but they don’t help drivers for expenses it’s ridiculous, this why I quit doing Uber I quit in 2017 because of many reasons number 1 the riders number 2 the pay per mile are very very low number 3 renting a TLC vehicle in NYC are to expensive number 4 the gas $4.67 a galón ⛽️ is too expensive number the pay are too low . Uber should give the drivers access about the destination where the rider is going before picking up Uber needs to listen more on drivers and not the riders , I live in NYC 🗽 and riders are rude and violent Uber needs to a background check on riders before using the platform, Uber needs pay more to drivers and not lowering their weekly pay .

    The hack that I use with this especially during a surge is to turn on area preferences, accept a ride, go into area preferences and turn it off, and, then select the option to stop accepting rides. Only burns a couple of minutes per ride and you can thus use it for a long time if it helps you in your market. Really great feature midnight to 2AM in San Francisco market. No trips across the bay. During the daytime commute it is great to avoid taking airport trips. In fact there should be an option to just "avoid airport" and that would take care of half of the rides I don't want. Not profitable here to do those trips.You can also combine it on a Friday or Saturday night (10PM-12AM, and 12AM-2AM). Thus lots of short local rides.

This helps you maintain the filter for most of your day,unless it is very slow and hard to receive trip requests.

    I have it here in the bay area ca. I used it on saturday during UC Berkeley Graduation and it worked out really well. I don't like the two hour limitation though. It should work all day. I like to stay in a specific area in the east bay area that works well for me.

      You can turn it off after you get a trip. Finish the trip and turn it back on. Only burns a couple of minutes per trip.

    I'm pretty sure that the app is different now and this functionality is no longer available. You can set your destination and turn on a destination filter but there's no way to choose areas that you want to stay in unless I'm missing something.

    I live in the Washington DC area and we do not have this feature as of yet. Then again, maybe I do not know where to look for it. Right now, all I have is final destination feature which is good, but I would love this feature even more. Especially since I am a part time driver, 7+ years now. 2 hours per day is crazy. Why not just make it 24 hours a day. Drivers know where they want to be. Uber still makes money and the drivers do a lot better managing gas. Thanks for the tips. Cheers!

    Well. As uber driver. When you modify time of arrival in your destination, you were able to stay in one area for one set up a whole 10 hours. Uber took it away. And this 2 hours? No use for cities like Chicago where traffic is horrible. In two hours you will do 1 trip. So Uber didn’t solve anything. They should let us modify time as it was. You want to do reviews for Drivers? Try to drive in different cities so you can make honest reviews

    Looking forward to this coming to the Portland, OR market. Yes, 2hrs is a drawback. I wouldn't mind them giving us 2 of these per day, like destination filters.

    Pretty ridiculous. I just look at the pickup, destination, and fare to determine if it's a good deal. If it's a bad deal, I decline. $30/hr minimum with $10 ride minimum. Easy.

    I saw another Driver have this preference in his phone, we are in the Phoenix market. He went to show me how to use it and I didnt have it on my phone, but he did? Why is that?
    Also, I called Uber Support, they had no idea what I was talking about.

    I wish they did this for a whole day on all accounts. We live near a military installation and you need credentials to get on, obviously. It’s not difficult to get an ID, but for those who don’t have access immediately, it would be beneficial to turn off that base location. DoorDash has finally split our areas for that exact reason. Too many people were ordering on post and the drivers could not deliver there.

    I live and work in the downtown Los Angeles area I selected area preference just in the downtown area on this weekend of the anime convention. There’s tons of people everywhere people moving everywhere and I’ve been here waiting for an hour and 15 minutes and still have yet to pick up one single ride area preference is the worst thing they’ve created I’ve never had to wait so long for a ride in my five years of working as an Uber driver.

    Once got 4 trips in a row across the golden gate Bridge on a Sunday! 2 of them ended up in San Rafael and 1 of them Richmond. Every time I dove back the first trip back to me back over the damn bridge! None were even event related 🌉🌉
