She was no joke for real only Serena could compete with Venus around the early 2000s. If it wasn't for injures and her immune disease she would have been better. That illness slowed her down and it give exceptional players the opportunity to beat Venus. Players like Clijsters, Jankovic and Kerber got lucky against her in the 2010s.

2008 Wimbledon final was serious quality. Serena came out on fire. No one other than Venus would have come close to her, let alone beat her. Venus on grass is amazing.
I AGREE! Serena was at her top Grand Slam level that year when she came by to try to snatch that title from her older sister and win her 3rd Wimbledon title. By that, i mean she would have won other slams with the same performance with anyone else except Venus' top level on this particular day. This final is the best I've seen these two played personally, the best Ive seen Venus being consistently aggressive, also the best she's ever perform physically by not just her constant power hitting in display that only Serena has ever shown us before(Wimbledon 2002, Us Open 2002, Australian Open 2007 were the examples of it where Serena was very strong and accurate in her attacking game by that point), Venus also moved excellently like no other on grass courts as she wasn't afraid to stay defensive over the baseline or being dragged into the net and finding her footing very quickly to stay at her offense position, and last but not least the highest level of quality display she's ever been serving, with minimal double faults where she hardly made 3-6 df WHILE serving on average from 95mph to 100mph second serve. Also, who would have noticed Venus also produced her 1st Serve speed a lot higher than the many of those men, on average? She was serving at a higher speed than the two men's finalists who are arguably the TWO best tennis player ever? Her 1st serve was delivered more than 60-65% i believe, cOmpared to her normal level which range between 50% -55% with a relatively weak second serve that hardly peaked at 90mph and not delivered convincingly (many more df like 7-15 in a match). Even though I can tell and truly decide while Serena produced A BETTER SERVE because of her all around reliable, very powerful and with a complete disguise and an unmatched accuracy, Venus was serving stronger than her sister in this tournament, and while she isn't very technical with her 2nd serve, it was her service game that Serena found too good for her to attack ON this particular day, it looks like she wasnt ready nor did she prepare herself enough with her expectation against the quality serving OF her sister. When you look carefully in the first few games of both sets, Serena was the one who gets in charge right away, stepping up her gear just like her other matches. Then, Venus who knew her self cpnfidence and capability as a champion, stayed right behind her sister and holding onto every game before Serena started to crack down under pressure, and Venus was more freely and aggressive the longer each sets go by not letting her serve to break down, and she did. I love the way she used her disadvantage at losing her service game or struggling to get her own service game broken before she prevailed as a tactical strategy to keep her focus and follow the little sister behind until she breaks back when she's closer to end each set. She was sensing every opportunity to use her disadvantage as a winning momentum, to surprise Serena which is why Serena shockingly lost in Straight Sets. Against anybody else, this Serena is no match for almost everybody, except maybe Osaka at her powerful best because she has a powerful but relentless baseline game to be able to cause serious doubt in Serena's mental belief, and Osaka matches Serena's power. This Serena is superior to the 2005 AO Serena, 2007 AO Serena, 2014 US Open Serena, 2015 FO Serena, 2016 Wimbledon Serena and AO 2017 {pregnant Serena} where she was below the same par level but were able to win GS successfully. NOT for the year 2008 in Wimbledon. It's interesting to note one year later,Serena MET her sister here at the same TOURNAMENT again and won in Straight sets. She was not coming for the final like in 2008, and after her epic match in the SF against Dementieva she was able to prepare for winning the title more casually. Also, Venus didn't serve as hard and efficient in 2009, we can tell her whole game started to decline slowly at this point, despite still being the 2nd most powerful players on serve and baseline groundstrokes, but her power and athletic ability started dwindling. Yet, a legend that she is, no one would have ever thought almost 8 years later, she came back to challenge the younger generations why she's the OG who isn't new to being at the very top circle of Tennis Champion and reached two more GS FINALS. LEGENDARY
Just phenomenal. Two of the best ever who just happened to be sisters. It is a real joy watching the two play their hearts out. We will likely not ever going to see anything like this in tennis.

favorites. I also feel Venus could have won the 2003 finals if not for her injury. She was never thesame after that injury.

While you can see both sisters’ refined their games and skills over the years, Mouratoglou almost completely chiseled and remoulded Serena’s whole game (FH, Slice, game plan etc).
Post the sjogren's syndrome diagnosis, Venus also changed and fine-tuned her style of game, but I think it was no where near as effective or as supreme as Serena’s. Mouratoglou helped Serena to use a plan B, whereas Venus is a one way traffic (e.g being 2017 US Open SF against Stephens). And this is where the difference lies. Venus was promising but needed a better mentor than David Witts.
Actually Serena was a better player in Wimbledon in the 00s. Had to play 4 Wimbledon finals against Venus, winning 3.
Even though she won 4 more Wimbledons in the 10s her opponents were only Zvonareva, Radwanska, Muguruza and Kerber.
I would say the two Queens of Wimbledon are Martina N. and Steffi.
Martina with 9 titles of course.
And Steffi with 7 titles in only 14 attempts (50 %).
Serena also won 7 but played 23 times in Wimbledon (30.4 %).
Venus won only 5 in 24 attempts (20.8 %).
However, both sisters are the greatest Wimbledon champs of the 21st century.
