- Yes.... We cut a perfectly good Jeep TJ hardtop in half! It is what it is haha. We are building a custom half top for the Krute build. We know this is not going to be an easy task but we are ready to take it on! We knew this part of the build was coming and this is how we are going to tackle it! Hope you guys enjoy PART 1!

Hey guys, I apologize for the jumping around in this video. We were figuring this all out as we were working on the top. The next video will be solid in terms of a plan for the hardtop🤟🏼 Hope you guys understood what I was explaining haha.

I was cringing bad when you guys were chopping up that hardtop 😂 a used one goes for maybe $1300-$1500 here in AZ. I can’t wait to see how it comes out though!
Cool build. I was thinking something similar when he said he was looking for $100 hardtops....stuff like that is so much cheaper on east coast it seems.
Really?! That’s wild haha. Here they are anywhere between $800-$1000. Still a lot of money.
People get rid of hard tops that are broken or don’t have glass for pretty cheap here. It’s just hard to find them haha.
Looking good buddy. I agree with your Dad no sunroof we are not in the 80s. Sliding back window would be the finishing touch.

Sun roof would be awesome. Or maybe do something like the freedom panels?
The rear side windows I think would look awesome too kind of like how the extended cab trucks have. But sounds like yours would be alot smaller and basically pointless and purely cosmetic

Oh for sure, it would be really cool to do the side windows if there was enough room! The back sliding window is what I think will look best but also have great functionality.

Looks good. You can use just a flat piece of glass in an opening in the rear with a rubber gasket- thats what GR8Tops does. They had a choice between a sliding and fixed, they are RV or pickup windows. Ive got the extended GR8Top on my TJ if you want to see one, -in Laytonsville. no glass in it right now though...
Oh nice! I was looking at their tops online and that style and shape of their half top is what we are going for. Might have to take you up on that!

Love your jeep! I ended up going with a GR8TOPS half cab hard top for my build. It is pricy but I too also struggled trying to find a "half cab" soft top lol. Side note my dads name is also Rod. He travels for work and and happened to be in town the last couple weekends so we had some good father son time. Just thought I would share since our dads have the same name haha.

Looking good! I kinda wish I made my hardtop with a straight down back but it got complex. Instead I went tight as possible to the rollbar and kept the stock angle.
It’s definitely not going to be easy! Previously we planned on using the full back piece and just making it straight but the angles don’t allow it. Sucks but gotta do what you gotta do lol.

I think the brute top is actually taller to accommodate the roll bar
It is, I figured that out after looking at it further. I did want to do a custom roll cage down the road anyway so it’ll just happen sooner haha. That’ll help with clearance!
I could have pie cut the bottom of the back to make it almost straight up and down and the fiber glassed it back together

Goodluck Lucas. That's quite the challenge. Should be a great series of videos. Fiberglass is no fun to work with. I am guessing your using a Masonite or Luan base to form the top?

A sliding rear window out of a compact pickup might fit well. There's gotta be one out there some where for measurements! I feel your pain in cutting a good hard top. I was trying to make a "Racer Top" for a CJ years ago. Truck looks good though. Keep the vids coming.
That’s the plan, that or a sliding window for an RV or something along those lines. It was definitely scary cutting it up haha. I even tried to pick a hardtop up for cheap that someone didn’t want anymore or was damaged. I appreciate the support!

Use a slider from a pickup like a Ford ranger or something.

Next time you should try using the heat gun to loosen up the adhesive

@@BuiltDifferentGarage I just saw one for sale. It was $2000. I think TJ body’s are wider. I know the windshield angle is different. I think someone could make a custom soft top easily and utilize the hard doors. I am enjoying the show and can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Do not put in Asunción roof it’s been done and looks bad and you will always have hot sun on your head. One mans opinion.
