The TP Link TL-WA850RE N300 is the easiest of all WIFI extenders I have set up.
In this video, I hold in the factory reset button with a pen, for 5 seconds, connect to the new TPLink Extender WIFI signal that appears in my WIFI signals list. Once connected to the extenders default Wifi, visit the IP address is shows for "router" or "gateway" to open the TP Link configuration screen, and set it to use any password of your choice. Wait for it to scan the local airwaves for WIFI routers, select your WIFI router, enter it's WIFI key or password, press NEXT, press SAVE, then wait for it to reboot, and then re-join your home WIFI network that you just extended.
A few moments later, the extenders own default configuration WIFI SSID will disappear, and my phone now auto connects to my home network via the new WIFI extender since it's broadcasting the same SSID and requires the same password as my existing home WIFI router.
Factory Reset is beneficial if you lose your instructions, your password or you just want to reconfigure in case something appears wrong with it.

It was super clear . The additional info is that , after connecting to TP Link extender , your anti virus may block it and hence it may not show the wifi network so better to put off anti virus for short while.

So I did every step right and have before but setting it up again the extender doesn’t reboot during the last step ?
If my router is in 2nd floor and I connect the extender through LAN network cable and place the extender in ground floor, so speed will be same as the router?
the natural password and username is i guess (admin) and (admin) for all tp link extender and also wifi
it worked for me after forgetting the password of extender i reset and set everything to admin

I got to that stage and mine wouldn’t connect to the internet browser. Instead, I pressed the ‘padlock’ button on the extender until the ‘RE’ light was flashing and pressed the WPS button on the router I wanted to connect it to. It then configured with the extender and I didn’t need to enter any details on a browser for it to connect.

In my test, the TP link was the worst. The best extender was the netgear ex3700 5GZ band. You will get best results from an ethernet cable, but currently in my house, the gaming pc which isn't using an ethernet cable, is using the ex3700 5gz, and the ping is sometimes around 10. So it can be very good as long as the ex3700 itself has a good connection to the main wifi router.
This didn’t work for me. I copied the IP address but then the booster had no wifi. So it couldn’t go to the admin page. This is a booster left behind by a guest. I reset it fine. But that’s as far as I could get.
how do you have the extenders wifi if it isn’t connecter to anything?
when it isn't connected to your home wifi, it broadcasts a temporary wifi so that you can connect to it and configure it.
After factory reset it apparently still asks for old username and password ⁉️

@@sbcode That is probably because you were earlier connected with the iphone. Once I did it, it also asked me a username+password, before the Tplink Extemder password set up step. I'll look for how to set up one username and password, since the one I am using was my dad's.
I just did a factory reset, just like I showed in the video, and created a completely new password different than all other times. What I show in the video works. And the video is evidence.

probably. I've never tried connecting to free wifi hotspots. I expect it should work though if you can connect to the free wifi using your phone normally without problems.

I made the mistake of accepting the suggested “strong password” (which was fingerprint memorized into my iphone), and when I go to log in now , it says UNKNOWN PASSWORD. I am trying to simply reset my password so that I can proceed, but for the life of me cannot see how this is accomplished. Help??

When i paste my ip adress in browser it just responds with "err_address_unreachable'

Did you connect to the TP-Link_Extender SSID first? Then check the connection information, and then use the IP is shows for the Router (or gateway) address.
It's not opening in the browser without internet??
you factory reset it, you then connect directly to the extender, and configure it to connect to main WiFi router in your house and mimic its SSID and password. You then reboot the extender, and then connect your phone to your house WiFi SSID. If all is correct, you will be connecting via the extender, when the extender signal is stronger than your house WiFi signal.

No, just in range of the signal. Put it in a place in the house where wifi is already good for your phone atleast.

The tplink forums are full of people saying they cannot connect this piece of poo. It's great the first time you take it out of the box but try and change a wifi setting or take it on holiday and connect it and the whole thing screws up and fails. They dont tell you about all this faff because they know it will put people off. My advice is once it's set up for the first time leave everything alone or you will regret it.

Im sorry but these TP links are the worst. Every time I try to set it up it kills my wifi connection completely. I followed every step, all smooth, until the very last - asks me to connect with my wifi - at which point it asks me for a password ??? - I see that doesn't happen to you in your video - but to make matters worse it then doesn't accept my wifi password as correct and won't connect. It also won't let me connect to my router wifi again unless I remove the TP link network from my wifi manager. Why won't it ever work - it's driving me MAD. Such a waste of money.
Note - just read up. It's a problem with TPlinks and Macbook Pro. How annoying, what a waste of time and money - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
I no longer use it. It has a really long sleep wake up, so its like your internet is slow, unless you are using it constantly.

factory reset is what i do. But you can log into the extender and reconfigure which wifi signal you are extending.

I don't know, id have to be there to find out. It works for me.
when i do it then it says https the ip cant be reached
when connecting to the local extender use the http address. There wont be https unless you have installed a certificate on your extender that is validated with a certificate authority. Factory supplied certificates will expire and are effectively useless after a period of time, so it is very unlikely that your extender has a valid ssl certificate from a certified certificate authority. If you disagree with connecting to your extender by using http, then maybe you can return it.

In the video, after i've reset it, i then connect to its SSID, visit the url shown in the connection, and I am then prompted to set a new password.
