    I’m glad you do these videos, gives people the chance to see what diagnosing their car takes, and your not just plugging in a computer to fix it.

    This just helped me get a customer out of heavy traffic. Same issue, 2007 Prius cut out on a main road, blown AM2 fuse. Put a new fuse in and blew straight away. Unplugged the inverter pump and drove it to a side street so a tow truck could take it for repairs.

    THIS IS WHAT WE REALLY NEED TO SEE,,, I UNDERSTAND EVERY TEST YOU MADE AND EVERY STEP YOU TOOK SERIOUSLY I COULD HAVE THIS SEEM PROBLEM ON A DIFFERENT VEHICLE A FEW MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD AND I STILL WILL BE ABLE TO FOLLOW THIS DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . THAT'S BECAUSE YOU STAYED ON A FOCUSED TRACK AND MADE IT CLEAR WHY YOU WERE MAKING THE TESTS . FOR A DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS THIS GOOD THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN 1080HD OTHERS THEN THAT YOU'VE GOT YOUR SELF A UA-cam WINNER 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

    Was it the AM2 fuse?
    I had the same. Inverter coolant pump went bad blowing the fuse.
    Disconnect the pump and replace the fuse. Should be able to get a short distance with it.
    Replacing the pump is a relatively easy process for a DIYer.

    You are a excellent diagnostician! Watched your video on the Ford with the parasitic draw that turned out to be the ignition switch. (showed in Acc when off and Power relay was hot with the thermal image cam) You demonstrate an incredible talent which leads me to a very serious question. you see I too share the same talent yet I struggled terribly in school. Trouble with reading and spelling which I still deal with today. Trouble with being ??? teacher always said distractred. Sadly my father refused to honor my mothers request to have me tested for what was then called a learning disability. Now many years later I have been diagnosed as dyslexic. Yet is funny as it is, my dyslexia turned out not to be a disability at all. It is a blessing and why I have the talent. By chance did you have any issues in school yourself? Would love an answer. :)

    depending on the complaint if i feel its possible for a blown fuse to create the problem i check all fuses in all boxes first some of the youtubers say shouldn't be done that way. and yes i understand if its a blown fuse i need to figure out why the fuse blew. like a blower motor if it doesn't work on any speed i check fuses first if it runs on high i know motor is good. lets say i install fuse blower runs then check to see how much motor is drawing to see if thats the reason fuse blew. i see so many test and test to find blown fuse i just start there on most cases.

  • @kdmq

    A little curiosity is getting the better of me and I wonder if any Toyota techs could explain how the inverter water pump works and what it does. I used to always assume the pump was there to give you heat and HVAC functions while the engine is not running. However, the fact that this pump and the engine obviously were running at the same time leads me to believe this assumption may be false. Anyone know more than I do?

    • @rc4211
      @rc4211 5 місяців тому

      The power inverter, which is in the large, silver-grey box in the engine compartment in front of the driver, in a Prius creates quite a bit of heat, so, any time the car is turned on the inverter's cooling system runs to keep it from overheating. That pump, which sits below the left headlight, is what circulates the inverter coolant. It is separate from the car's HVAC system (although the engine coolant and inverter coolant do share the radiator). If you remove the cap from the inverter coolant reservoir (next to the inverter box) while the car is turned on, you can see the coolant "stirring". It's a great way to see if the inverter coolant pump is actually working. If the coolant pump fails the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), which appears as a large, red triangle on the dash, will normally illuminate.

    • @kdmq
      @kdmq 5 місяців тому

      @@rc4211 That is a very good and informative answer. I did not know there were two separate cooling systems, one for the HVAC and one for the inverter. Is there also cooling for the HV batteries in this vehicle? I have seen some models use coolant to cool HV batteries, and I have seen air blowers used to cool them.

    • @rc4211
      @rc4211 5 місяців тому

      @@kdmq In the second generation Prius, which is the model shown in this video, the traction (HV) battery is air cooled. The blower is located inside the car above the right rear wheel well, behind the liner panels. The blower is connected to the traction battery using black plastic ducting to the right hand side of the metal battery casing.
