    I have an important question--that no ones seems to know the answer to: How does a flybarless system direct the heli left or right and pitch forward and backward when all the swash plate does is simply change the pitch of the main blades??? Thanks again for a great video. Again great video instruction. You deserve to be paid for this given the quality of your content.

    I'm not sure how many times i have watched this video but i do know that more of it sticks every time i watch it. I have gotten more knowledge out of this tutorial than i have by watching every other video i could find on this subject. I still love flybar helis and always will. Thank you so much!

      haha, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that watches a specific youtube video over and over again lol. It is absolutely my pleasure and I'm glad that I could help out. I really need to get this helicopter back in the air (yes, I still have it.. kind of). Well, not this helicopter as I did a full power inverted dirt nap that broke everything on the helicopter. But, I did receive a brand new kit and it is back to new, never flown though. Maybe it's time! www.Rc-Help.com

    Your videos and forum are absolutely brilliant!
    I've always loved helicopters but never totally understood exactly how they work.
    Have always learnt more from practical lessons than classroom theory and following your videos and seeing how settings and adjustments actually change the moving parts of my heli is teaching me so much.
    And hopefully helping me to get it set up just right for when I'm finally brave enough to go and fly it. 😂
    Thank you. 😊

    Indeed sir we all been there dont own a flybar heli only flybarless but once got distracted by a car crash small one at a stop sign while I was learning to hover as I go to look back the tail rotor hit me right in my chin made small cuts but nothing serious and I luckily did not crash my heli this was a v912 so only 4ch I got myself a mycro k110 to learn 3d but while that someone gifted me a trex450 plus with ar7200bx receiver which binds to my dx7s which I had in storage for like 2 years until 1 month ago when I got an acro drone with a dsmx compatible receiver so this has been getting me to the rc hobby again so I'm looking at this video to set it up the trex is flybarless and its new which surprises me because he only asked me to pay for shipping which was like 45 dollars

    I was injured! His warning about making the blades 101% safe by isolating the motor is absolutely essential, on planes and quadcopters you do similar except you remove the prop.
    When setting up my plane I read time and time again that this should be done but I was absolutely sure I'd be ok, that I would be carefull not to throttle up.
    The autopilot sent it to full throttle whilst setting something and I had a huge plane with a wingspan of over 6 feet and a 700w motor swinging a 12" prop suddenly launch at me
    The prop made 22 lacerations to my arm, 18 of them deep in less than 10th of a second, the motor didn't I've slow a little when it hit me, just chopped through spinning at about 170 revolutions per second.
    I ended up in hospital and now I'm have a load of bad scars on my arm that will be there for life
    Disconnect your motor!!!!!!!!!!

    • @stevefox3763
      @stevefox3763 7 років тому +1

      Yeah, I'm fine but what happened to me need never have happened if I had just listened to the safety advice, I know many others ignore it too and people need to know that these accidents really do happen no matter how careful you are, don't take the chance!

    Its flying perfect! . I feel like Im a better pilot now. I gave my rave 450 7 Deg of cyclic pitch but I will raise the numbers soon. The only thing is that I had to use the trims like half way up and left. I guess it's because I used a nondigital pitch gauge. Great video!!

    This was great and I followed it. But, you never said what percentage to set in the swashplate configuration on the radio before starting the setup . So I started the process with the swashplate values set to 100% for each (the aileron, elevator and pitch). I levelled the swash plate at 50% pitch on the radio (no problem), levelled the washout arms (no problem), adjusted the blade pitch as you described, no problem. BUT, when I then attempted to measure the full pitch range from maximum negative to maximum positive, the swashplate vertical movement range was so large that the flybar pins came out of the tracks on the head !!!!!!! I then had to reduce the pitch value in the swashplate configuration on the radio down to 40% to prevent the pins from coming out of their tracks on the head. What went wrong here??????

    Hi,
    I like your presentation on how to setup the flybar head.
    I have 3 questions:
    1. Do you use idle-up, throttle hold, pitch curve to do this setup?
    2. What about normal mode and pitch curve? Presently, I do scale flying and hovering.....no 3D yet.
    3. How do fabricate your tool to clamp the flybar level? I have problem keeping the flybar level during setting up pitch curves.
    Thanks

    Thanx for a detailed setup guide.
    Do you think levelling the swash, using a swash levelling tool, would be a better approach, instead of the zip tie jig. The reason I suggest this is that once you adjust the swash, and the three prongs of the tool are in contact, at zero pitch (mid stick).....Next you may want to give full positive & negative pitch to verify that the tool is still nice and square with the swash. If there is some discrepancy ( full up or down swash) this can be addressed from the radio (swash menu or servo end point menu). No matter how square you set-up the servo arms plus the fact no two servos have 100% similar throw. By going through this step, one is sure not to have any "cyclic effect" at +ve or -ve pitch.
    kind regards
    Doc

    Great video! This works great with my Blade 450. I just got done building an Align 600e DFC with the 3GX V3.1. Those videos on that set up with your nitro build worked great too. The one thing that I'm a little stuck on, is the flight mode setups on these new firmware versions of the 3GX. I'm not all that sure what percentages I should have those at as far as roll rates, end points and swash dampenings. Also, would you be able to run a video showing the DX8 settings running a 3GX just 2 sat's?

    I think this is very good, but I have a DX7s which appears to be 90% the same as your but I don't have any swashplate menu item? When I increase throttle/pitch, only one servo moves (aileron) edit: ok I found the swash type menu in the alternative setting screen, it was set to 1 servo normal. I'm guessing I need to select 3 servo 120° for flybar setup.

    so I have a question. Your video is awesome, I have every thing set up, the swash moves up with pitch increase, (all three servo arms go up) the elevator moves in the proper direction but the ailerons move in the opposite direction of how they should, Ie aileron stick left but aileron servos move right. Im sure I am missing something but with everything else correct how do I get the ailerons to move in the right direction. If I reverse something then something else is not correct. Advice? Thanks .

    I love it, thank you! Question: How does the rotorhead not go up or down when you try to read the pos./negative pitch? Can it be done without the pitch gauge?

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  4 роки тому +2

      I'm not sure I understand your question, but I will try to answer. The servos are attached to a swash that slides up and down the main shaft. There are links that then go from the swash to the washout/mixing arms, and then to the flybar cage and blade grips. The head block (the top piece that holds the blade grips) is mounted directly to the main shaft so it will not move. As for doing it without a pitch gauge, you can, but I would invest in a $3.00 pitch gauge at least.

      First thing I would do is get a sim if you have never flown collective pitch helicopters before. They are incredibly hard to fly until you get some muscle memory. From the sim, an indoor fixed pitch helicopter will help get that muscle memory. From there, there are hundreds of fantastic helicopter brands out there for collective pitch such as SAB, Gaui, Align and others. I would not suggest going with the clone brands unless you like to tinker. www.Rc-Help.com

    I hoping you can help me. I followed ur complete flybar head setup video, but I'm having a problem having levelled the swash and achieved 0 deg pitch at mid stick (Spektrum DX6i). When I check the full range on each blade I'm getting roughly +11 to -3.5. I have made adjustments to the swash and can get +9 to -8.7 but when I check the pitch at mid-stick it has moved to 3/4 degs. I assume 0 pitch at mid-stick is more important than the +/- settings. Can you advise me what I should do next as I seem to be going round in circles. Thanks.

      @@RcHelpDotCom Going to fly my 700 nitro, but looking for a good pitchcurve throttlecurve video. Just bought a dx9.

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  5 років тому +1

      pitch curve I always have linear on a nitro (and electric for that matter if I'm not doing a beginner video). The reason for this is I always know where my pitch is, and is going to be. I know when I go from normal to IU1 or 2, if the rpm is going up, it's going to gain altitude. If the throttle is going down (IU1 to normal), then I know I"m going to need to increase pitch to keep it in the air.
      For throttle curve, this is going to depend on your setup and if you are running a governor, which I HIGHLY SUGGEST! In that case, the manual for your governor will tell you where to set your throttle values for a given head speed. The Ikon2 governor (and Ikon1 for that matter) will usually be something like 30 60 90 or there abouts and you will set a definite head speed in the gyro software, and it will take over and give you that head speed depending on where your throttle curve is. Hope this makes sense.

    • @rtoebak76
      @rtoebak76 5 років тому

      I'm not aiming for 3d with the constant headspeed. Just sportflying. I know what you want with the governer🙂. Just normal mode and for autorotation.

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  5 років тому

      Actually, for sport flying, the governor will help there as well. But if you can't or don't want to run it, set your pitch curve to linear for all 3, then set your throttle curve to a v curve. Just make sure that mid stick is the lowest point. You can do this in normal but it's best to only use normal to get the head speed up and then switch into IU1. The last thing you want is the engine surging trying to stick with your throttle stick. This can load up the engine and it will also cause the tail to kick around a bit.

    Hey I have a blade 300x. I’m new to the game it has almost everything upgraded to carbon fiber (the blades, the tail rod, and back blade). I don’t really know anything about it but when I touch the throttle at all, the whole helicopter starts to shake violently, to the point it will fall over. I removed the blades and it doesn’t shake at all with them off. Any suggestions?

    Question how did you setup your tail rotor, i am having a problem with my trex 600N, i put a little right tail input at lift off but when i decrease throttle the copter spins out of control to the left, that's tail moving left nose right. what can i do. I fly with a dx8 raido and i am setup with rate gyro, and have tried HHold same problem.

    when you started using the pitch gauge on the blade you then had a couple of large screws bearing down on the flybar. where do you get them?

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  6 років тому

      That is just a homemade flybar lock. It is just a piece of 3/16" acrylic that I drilled a center hole in to secure it to the head block, and then I drilled and tapped two holes for the thumb screws. As for where to get them, I have seen the really cheap ones on hobbyking, but they don't have the screws. Not many people are making these anymore because of the popularity of flybarless now days. www.Rc-Help.com

    Is a digital pitch gauge necessary? I have an old plastic mechanical one that I used but when I built my heli from scratch I did it all by myself with the help of the internet. I build a exi 450 pro. I crashed it like the maiden flight. Rebuilt it upgrading everything on it accept the frame to actual trex 450 pro parts. So it's a trex 450 pro with a belt/sport tail and a quark gyro. It's hovers really well but I've been xxcared to fly it since rebuilding it. I was thinking about getting a micro cp to practice on. I have an Msr that I'm pretty good at but I want to upgrade that to a cp. I think buying a cp would be cheaper then buying a gaming computer and a good SIM. Is there any Sims that will work with a laptop that's several years old? Most of the good ones say they need a graphics card with dedicated memory

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  5 років тому

      You absolutely do not need a digital pitch gauge to set up a flybar helicopter. In fact, now days when I'm setting up a flybar helicopter, I pull out the old mechanical gauge and I don't even use a flybar locking tool. Will it be exact? No. But for general sport flying it works great. Just eyeball the levelness of the flybar rod and get it as level as you can, and read the reading on the gauge. Make sure to put the gauge as far out on the tip of the blade as you can for a better "by eye" reading.
      There was a sim that would run on older graphics cards, and you can still find it, but they went belly up. That sim is Phoenix Rc Flight Sim. We used to do Simulator Sundays where we would live stream and invite everyone in to fly with us. But since they are out of business and closed their master server for online sessions, we no longer do this. But you can get the sim on places like eBay and the like, just make sure it comes with a GOOD cable. You MUST have the cable for the sim to work. Other than Phoenix, all of the other sims pretty much need a decent graphics card. So onto the CP helicopter.
      I know your pain in taking a clone and making it reliable with Align parts. I have a video "How To Properly Build A Clone Helicopter" where I show what I ALWAYS replace on a clone build. And once you get that much money invested in the helicopter, especially after a crash that costs over $100 or more (depending on helicopter size), your nerves play a roll in not allowing you to progress anymore. I know, I have been there and it is very hard to push through it.
      You say you have an mSR and that is the helicopter that taught me how to fly. I could fly in the sims but not IRL until I purchased the mSR. I could crash that little guy and just flip it back over and keep going. It was awesome when I could finally fly a helicopter. And all of that transferred to a CP helicopter for the most part. Mostly orientation though. And the sound of a CP, well that is a whole other level of nervousness lol.
      So you are looking at getting a CP helicopter to take the place of a sim. I want to start with saying, you are going to crash and it will still break parts. But the parts are far cheaper than a 450. I did this exact step just as I did with the mSR but this time I purchased the mCP-X, the old version, the first version lol. It was a learning experience and in the first week, I knew the parts that I needed to stock up on. Blades, tail booms and main blade grip linkages. All were very cheap compared to a 450. Once I had a few of those parts on hand, I just kept trying new things, kept flying and eventually it pushed me past that nervousness of the expensive helicopter because that mCP-X reacts faster than a 450, and when I went to the 450, I felt more in control.
      Now days, there are WAY more options for CCPM helicopters in the micro ranges. Back then, the mCP-X was it for me. But now everywhere you look there are companies building them. Just don't go crazy with something like the Align 150x. I have that one too and it is a lot of fun, but a little more expensive to crash and WAY more powerful. But if you want a name brand, and don't mind paying slightly more, the 150x is a great helicopter IMO. But be warned there are some out there with gyro issues (align, gyro issues? Nah! lol) I love my little 150x.
      I know this was very long, in fact this is probably one of the longest replies I have sat down and wrote. But I wanted to let you know, you are not alone in feeling nervous about flying after a crash. We have all been there. And what helped me is just what you are wondering about. Micros can help out for some people. Hopefully you are one of those people as I was. If this helped, come over to the forum and post up your experiences. Hope to see you there. www.Rc-Help.com

I saw this when I realized that my zero pitch is 5 degrees +. I do apologize about the delay in replying, I didn't get the notification you had commented. This should work very close to the same setup procedure except for the servo setup. But linkage setup and pitch settings should be exactly the same. Come on over to our forum if you need more help. I never miss a post over there lol. www.Rc-Help.com

    Hi Tony, i am using IKON2 FBL. As instructed by IKON 2 manual,
    I setup the blades, zero pitch at mid stick and -12 degree pitch at bottom and +12 degree pitch, stick at high point. I am using a Align pitch guage and Futaba 16sz. For beginner normal pitch that is
    bottom stick (low speed) pitch is -2
    Hovering little above mid stick (65%) +5 degree and
    high speed full throttle +11 degree. My question is, do we need to change the blade pitch in heli (using pitch gauge) or in transmitter. Please help. like to know relation between pitch in the heli and pitch in Transmitter. Thanks.

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  5 років тому +1

      You will adjust your pitch in your Pitch Curves in your Tx. Once you get 0 at mid stick, and +-12º, you will not adjust the helicopter from there unless you have an issue. Set your pitch curve to 46-48-50-75-100 and you should have a slight amount of negative pitch at low stick. Hope this helps.

    • @bpt1231
      @bpt1231 5 років тому

      @@RcHelpDotCom so in Futaba Terms, in TX, Normal Pitch curve is -30 (bottom stick) ,-10,+10 (mid stick),+50,+80 (full throttle) is that correct ?

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  5 років тому +1

      Okay, I take it Futaba uses a -100 to +100 scale? If so, 0 will be mid stick so the third number should be 0. I would only go to about -10 on low stick and the last two are going to be linear. So, if you have a -100 to +100 scale, your pitch curve should be -10 -05 00 +50 +100. If you don't want full collective pitch at 12º, then adjust the flybarless settings. It's just easier to stick with a linear curve than it is to start putting weird pitch curves in your Tx. Come on over to the forum and post up, there are quite a few people there with Futaba Tx that can help out a lot more than I can. www.Rc-Help.com
