Hello, I have a Bachelors's Degree in Marketing Management and have the opportunity to work in the Accounting/Finance industry. I would like to pursue Accounting so I have decided to sit for the CMA exam. What membership should I get from the IMA? When should I start studying? Where can I get the study materials? How do I know if I am actually qualified to take the CMA exam? Appreciate your help! Thank you for creating this vlog for us!
Hi Nathan, do I need to get an IMA membership first before I can enroll for a CMA course review? or I can delay that until I am not yet ready to take the CMA exams?
Hi, Nerissa! No, you don't. Inside our Academy program, I'll advise you when to pay for your IMA membership, CMA entrance fee and exam registration. Hint: Not all of them should be paid at the same time. Plus, as our student, you'll get an exclusive 15% discount on your IMA membership and CMA entrance fee thanks to our partnership with the IMA.
Hi, I'm a second year bachelor of functional english student and I like to pursue CMA US after my graduation. I would like to know about the preparations that I must do before to get a base about this financial and accounting thing.
I would highly recommend taking accounting and finance classes in college to have a strong foundation for the CMA exam. These classes will provide you with a solid understanding of the financial and accounting concepts that are covered on the exam. Additionally, taking classes will help you develop the necessary skills and knowledge to analyze and interpret financial information, which will be essential when taking the CMA exam. It is also important to note that the CMA exam is widely considered to be challenging, so having a strong educational background in accounting and finance will give you an advantage when preparing for the exam. In addition to taking classes in college, you can also consider joining a student accounting or finance association, or participating in an internship or other hands-on experience in the field.
Congratulations on the video, very clear. I live in Italy and it is not clear to me if I can also take the exam in my country. It seems to me that it is at a Prometric institute
Thanks Tito. Glad to hear the video was very clear. To answer your question, you can take the exam anywhere in the world where there's a Prometric testing center, which is in most major cities. To locate one near you, use this link www.prometric.com/icma
I am currently in college getting my bachelors degree in accounting and I graduate in May 2025. I am also working as a general accountant right now. I was wanting to know if a general accountant position qualifies as experience towards the CMA?
Hi Brittany. The CMA Candidate Handbook breaks down work experience relevance nicely by listing off several job titles and job duties that would be applicable. I posted an article on my blog that explains each of the requirements, including the work experience requirements. You can read it here: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/ref/nathan/ If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Hi. Understanding basic accounting concepts is crucial before enrolling in the CMA program. While the CMA syllabus builds on these fundamentals, having a strong foundation will significantly enhance your comprehension and performance throughout the course. If you need to strengthen your basics, consider reviewing introductory accounting topics to better prepare for the CMA journey. To learn more about the topics covered in each part of the CMA exam, click on the following links: CMA Part-One: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-part-1/ref/nathan/ CMA Part-Two: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-part-2/ref/nathan/
What certifications are helpful prior to registering for CMA? I looked at CPB as an option, but I dont know if it is more honoured than a BBA, which I've already attained.
Hi Sonja! You should remember that to obtain the CMA certification, you must meet specific educational requirements. CMA educational requirements can be fulfilled in two ways: 1. Earn a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 2. Have a professional certification Also, CMA does not require you to have a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting. But your degree must come from a regionally accredited or Distancing Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) accredited university or college. If you don't have a bachelor’s degree, you can still qualify for the CMA certification requirements by holding a professional certification. You can learn more about all requirements here: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/
regarding the work experience. you said if your 60% of your courses are accounting and corporate financial management courses you meet the experience qualification. does that mean that there is no need to have a 2 years of work experience anymore?
Hi. After passing both parts of the CMA exam, you will need two continuous years of professional experience in management accounting and/or financial management. This experience can be gained before or within 7 years of passing the exam. Part-time positions can also count towards this requirement as long as they amount to a full-time equivalent. Check out my 10-step roadmap to earn the CMA: cmaexamacademy.com/how-to-become-a-cma-in-just-over-6-months/ref/nathan/ If you have any follow up questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
I coach; question I did graduate on 2001 in University out of USA, but my experience in USA is just in AP but not staff accountant... still I can do the CMA or I have to find a Staff accountant job? which is difficult because they are asking for USA credential's...
Gaby, the IMA gives candidates up to 7 years after passing the exams to meet all qualifications including work experience. So although you may not have it now, you can still study for your exams.
Great video.. I m currently in logistics filed and not intend to become an accountant..however, would like to get a accounting certification (management accounting)..Is CMA right for me or is there another certificate I chould go for?
Thanks for watching. I'm not familiar with the logistics industry and the certifications available for that industry. The CMA is for professionals looking to build a career in management accounting. If that's not your objective, I'm not sure it'll be worth the investment.
None of them. We have developed our own study material since 2015. For more information, check it out here: cmaexamacademy.com/product/premium-cma-coaching-combo-part-1-part-2/ref/nathan/

SInce I have almost 4 years experience within accounting/finance. Will IMA count my previous work experience as 2 years experience?

Hi sir. I am a BS Management Accounting graduate in a University last 2010. After I graduated I worked as an Admin and Finance Officer for 3 years in an NGO and have been doing bookkeeping works since 2013 in part time and full time basis until at present. Does my work experiences be considered if i will get the CMA certification? Do I also need a refresher course to be updated?
Hi Hersie, I believe your work experience does meet the requirement. There are several requirements before a candidate can become officially CMA certified. Here’s my article on this topic: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/ if you have questions after reading it, please let me know. Thanks!
Hello sir! I'm pursuing final year bcom right nw and i want to do CMA further. CMA course can be completed being in India right? Bcz somewhere i read that CMA can only be done in Abroad.

Hi sir . I am in South Africa I am doing National diploma in Cost and Management Accountant so I'm wandering what the next step for me to take in order to become CMA? And also which membership I am qualifying for
Hi Gloria, Since you're still an active college student, opt for the Student Membership. The next step is to start studying for your exam. You can do it while in college if you have the time, or if not after graduation. The steps I listed in this video provide a roadmap, but if you prefer to read them here's the article: cmaexamacademy.com/how-to-become-a-cma-in-just-over-6-months/

Aasha, if you have a degree from an accredited university, it'll meet the education requirement for the CMA certification. If you're not sure whether your degree will accepted, contact IMA's customer service to verify it for you.
What’s up CMA coach, I graduated college 2 yrs ago with a BS in Business Administration. Been doing AP/AR and Jr. Staff accountant work for two years, would I purchase the professional or young professional membership? I am about to turn 25

Xan, I think it'd be very valuable for you to have the skills and knowledge of a CMA to help your organization. CMA skills in business are so important. Every company should have at least one CMA on staff for sure.
Hi Coach. I am a working professional with 4 years of experience in Market Research, where i conduct SWOT analysis for various companies across industries. So, is my experience considered to meet that 2 years experience criteria?? Or do i need to get any other management accounting experience??

Hello Sir. I just completed my Bachelor of Accounting Honours Degree. Am still waiting for my final transcrit and hope to have been successful. What membership do l qualify to be CMA member?
Hello Sir! My question is even I need to sit for exam, should I be a member of IMA? If yes, then please let me know what type of membership is required for me. I am Master degree holder in accounting. As we are studying for the CMA part 1, what impact will take place if the exam is changed in 2020? Will it be a change in syllabus or exam style?
Yes you need an active IMA membership in order to take the CMA exam. If you're still in school, you may qualify for the student membership. Otherwise most people opt for the professional membership. The exam content will change in 2020. So since you're planning to take the exam next year, make sure you're using study material that has been updated for 2020 exam.
Jasper, passing the CMA exam is one of several requirements to get certified. Here's an in-depth article that goes into detail: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/ I think you'll find it insightful.
Divyanshu, Here’s a list of available study tools. Feel free to pick and choose the ones that fit your needs: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-study-tools/ref/nathan/ If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to hit reply. Thanks!
Hi I have 12 years of experience in hedge fund accounting. Now i am planning to do CMA. Can I avail post qualification experience based on this? My experience involves finanacial accounting and capital market exposure, valuation and NAV calculation.
To fulfill the work experience requirement for certification, the tasks being performed on a day to day basis is more important than the title itself, although a title is indicative of the type of work a candidate performs. Here’s my article on this topic: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/
In the age of 46. Can we start to become CMA as it will complete in 49. Is it worth full to get CFO job. Already complete the bechlors degree and Job experience. Pls your comments.
Hi. Sure you can start! Obtaining the CMA certification can be beneficial in pursuing a CFO position, especially if you already have job experience and a completed bachelor's degree. Most of my students complete the CMA within 8 months to 1 year, not 3 years. I have an awesome resource that’ll give you a lot more information about career and salary potential as a CMA. Hi, I'm 29 years old and currently pursuing my last year in post-graduation from the University of Mumbai, India and also working in the Banking sector. So do I'm eligible for the CMA program and will get a student IMA membership which cost $39.
Hi coach, what is the difference of professional fee and young professional fee? I have 4.5 years of experience and working here in the Phillipines. Im 25 years old. Does young professional's fee suit me? Hope to hear from you.

Hi I am semi qualified chartered accountant from india and also completed graduation so which membership will be applicable for me? Also regarding "2 years of exeperience" will my CA Articleship of 3 years get counted or not? If not then will i be allow to fulfill that criteria after passing both parts of CMA exam? Please reply
Hi Aaish, since you already graduated, I believe your membership level is Professional. But you should reach out to the IMA directly and get a clear answer on this before paying for it. Also ask them if they will accept CA Articleship as work experience. You have up to 7 years after passing both exams to fulfill your work experience requirement.
I have appeared for my class 12 exams this March, and the results are probably going to be declared in June.Would you recommend appearing for CMA exams before graduation?
If you have the time to study for the exam then absolutely yes! Not only will you be able to get a headstart from your peers, but the IMA has lower membership and exam fee rates for students.
sir my college is providing b. com with us cma so my questions are please answer 🙏🙏🙏 Q1 if i m doing any job like bank job so it will make my resume more attractive? Q2 if i m going regular college to study b com cma so i will need any coaching?
Should I wait till I'm halfway through a test's prep before paying for CMA membership and CMA entrance fee? In the video you mention only waiting to pay for the entrance fee.
Hi Nathan, Could you please that which membership will good for me because i am working as security guard and also preparing for CMA exam but don't which membership is appealing to me!
Thanks Nathan! For answering me. But i have one more question that as you said in your video that without 2 years of accounting experience we won't be able get our CMA certificate. I have accounting degree, isnt it enough for getting the CMA certificate after passing the exam.
Hi Nasir, I'm so sorry for missing your last comment. There are several requirements to earn your CMA designation. You need to pass the exams, work experience, education experience too.
Am working in small engineering office, are they focusing on specific duties and which accounting system i am used ,and do u think that recording inovices and managing the credit account,Vat returns are enough for the experience??
Hi Nathan, I have a question about the experience aspect. I am in year three of my audit job, accordingly would being at this job for 4 years total be sufficient to fill professional requirement?
Amazing video and I just have a doubt I am currently studying Entrepreneurship and Management Bachelor's in Europe my course is 100% about financial accounting and startup so can I use that as 3 years of experience?
Hi sir, I'm a bachelor of science in accountancy student turning second yr college this year in Philippines, I am actually worried for the propose amendment revision to accountancy law here that would find me difficult to become CPA because of its difficulty and high standard system, and I'm planning to be a CMA , am I eligible if Im a graduate with BSA degree?
There are additional requirements to become a CMA besides a bachelor's degree. But candidates can take the exams before fulfilling all requirements. The IMA gives a window of 7 years to fulfill all requirements as I explained in the video.
Hello sir my name is zion i am from New New Zealand i am planning to become CMA right now im in highschool year 11 i am 15 years old after that i am deciding wether to go for accounting or financial course in university to get a bachelor's degree which option will open more gates for me in the future. Hi Fangz, I admire your determination to tackle the CMA at such a young age. Because the CMA is an advanced designation, my suggestion is to wait until you are in your third year of college to start preparing for the CMA exam. Once you get your bachelor's degree and pass both CMA exams, start applying for jobs to help you gain field experience.
Hi Sir, I had done Masters in Finance and right now working as an Finance Assistant in an Hospital. Which membership should I choose? Also, this experience can be considered for the 2yr experience required for CMA certification?
Hi Fauzia, choose the professional IMA membership. To determine if your job fulfills the work experience prerequisites, read this article I wrote that goes into detail: bit.ly/32HazNu
hallo im Akram and im studying managment sceinces major of accounting in a credit hour university and im in my third year so i need to know more about when i supposed to start and the best place in egypt to take this course in or if it can be online and also how to start
HI Akram, most people study online. It's the most convenient way to prepare for the exam. The first step is to enroll in a CMA review program. But for all the steps you need to take to earn your certification, read this in-depth article on my site: cmaexamacademy.com/how-to-become-a-cma-in-just-over-6-months/
Dear Coach,I work and live in the Netherlands as an assistant-accountant. I want to study for the CMA exams. Can I also follow the CMA courses from the IMA organization itself in my own country?
Hi Fariba, The IMA doesn't have CMA courses. You'll need to look for companies that provide them. The good news is that most courses are done online. The exam itself is not though. You'll need to go to a Prometric testing center to take it. They have locations worldwide. You can find one near you here www.prometric.com/icma For CMA course options, check them out here: cmaexamacademy.com/best-cma-review-course-comparison/
Sir i am doing Bs accounting and finance.which membershe should i choose after doing this. And one more thing Cma requires from us that you just need a bachelor degree to get cma, it means we can start after bs accounting and finance.
Hi! If you are still in college, choose Student membership. Otherwise, go for the Professional membership. One of the requirements is to have a Bachelor's degree yes. You can start studying for the CMA exam before or after you graduate. College students can take the CMA exam. They just wouldn't get certified until after they graduate and meet the rest of the prerequisites. But it's a great way to get a head start.
Hiiii sir,I am studying inter 2md year M.E.C can u say what I have to do next to become a cma.i want to study b.com next year.pls advice me a easy method

I am applying to a master of science in accounting program. But Im also thinking of becoming a CMA. I have a BBA in Economics and i only have principles of financial and managerial accouting in my undergrad and I graduated 10 years ago. I don't have official accounting experience. Would it be better to just go into CMA prep instead of doing the masters?
Hi Maggie, that's a great question! In fact, I'm releasing a brand new video this coming Monday comparing an MBA to the CMA. Subscribe to the channel so you get notified when the video is published this coming Monday. I think you'll find it super helpful :)
So if I didn’t understand it wrongly, we should buy a review program and start reviewing before we enroll us as ima member and pay cma exam entrance fee. Please let me know if it is correct. Thanks.
Cathy Zong it’s totally fine to purchase a review course and pay for your IMA membership on the same day. But definitely hold off on paying for your CMA entrance fee and exam fee until your half way through your study material.
Hey Im an engineering graduate and will have 2 years of Technology Consulting experience in a big4 company (soon). Does that quite meet the experience requirements? Thanks

I suggest studying fundamentals of accounting first before jumping into the CMA straight away. Without any knowledge in accounting/finance, it''ll be too difficult to pass the exam.

Sir, Which Bachelor degree should I do for CMA US? Is BAF ok to do? Or any other please suggest me, sir it will be very helpful for me please reply sir...!
Hi... I wonder if CMA fits on my situation? I am from middle-east/IRAQ. I have a Business administration certificate. And I am working in a bank field as a back-office accountant. I will come to Canada by the next 10 months from now. And you know there is almost impossible to work as an accountant in the first two years at least because I am a newcomer.
It's not impossible to work as an accountant. You may need to start from a clerical position like most do, but eventually you'll be able to move up the ladder.
Hi sir I am from India and I have completed my UG in recognised university and I am doing my CA I.e CA Final now.Now I want to enroll for cma. Please guide me through sir

Because you don't have a bachelor's degree yet, you are not eligible to get certified. However, you can start preparing for the CMA exam during your final year in college.
Hii sir myself Priston I am planning to do cma us and i have one question in my mind that is after completing both part 1 and 2 exam clearly do i require a work experience in the job after completing the exams within 2 years bcoz i am 18 years old and in future do i really require experience in it could u clarify it too me sir please and if required how much years experience after completion of my graduation could u explain it to me sir
Hello Sir, I work in a bank as an officer in India, I have 8 years experience in banking, MBA holder, what kind of membership should I choose to proceed..? Kindly advise me. Also whether this experience would be sufficient for completing experience part in the exam, I mean the nature of my job.
Hi Long, it's not necessary to have public accounting experience before going into management accounting. There are thousands of accountants who hold managerial positions and never worked in public accounting. I'm one of them. Is it useful though? Absolutely. All accounting experience whether private or public is useful in the long run.
Hi Sir, I am Ella and i am a General Accountant in practice since year 2015. I really want to get a CMA title and would like to ask what if I couldnt passed the exam? is there any chance to take again?
I am a bcom graduate..i want to take up for CMA course...how to begin? Which membership to choose?.I am from India can I answer it from India?.please help
Hi Mifa, I created a CMA Roadmap to guide candidates through the process. Please check it out here: cmaexamacademy.com/ultimate-cma-exam-roadmap/ it's totally free.
I get confused about the work experience...after cma exam do i have to get 2 years work experience? or my subjects of bcom are enough? My subjects were Financial management Strategic management Service General management Mathematics Economics... What is it about 60% of your subjects marks something?..
When it comes to work experience, your degree is not enough. Your degree is great to help you meet the education requirement, but when it comes to work experience, you'll need to actually have a job in a relevant field. If you need more info on this, here's an article I wrote about work experience: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/
Hi Coach, I’m planning to take the challenge and go for a CMA qualification, I’m wondering if learning the part 1 for few months (4 - 6 months) then take the 1st exam, then go to part 2, learn for few months (4-6) and then take the 2nd exam. Doing this you have less information to process and thus perform better in the exam. Is this a good strategy, or should I go 10-12 months on both parts and then try to take the exams?
i have already enrolled myself with cima & completed 35% marks along with my undergraduate degree in accounting.is this a right way for carrier please suggetion.

You can read it here: cmaexamacademy.com/cma-certification-requirements/ref/nathan/

Cma syllabus doesn't cover basic financial accounting. How important it is to be strong in basic before enrolling in cma ?

What certifications are helpful prior to registering for CMA? I looked at CPB as an option, but I dont know if it is more honoured than a BBA, which I've already attained.
Hi Sonja! You should remember that to obtain the CMA certification, you must meet specific educational requirements.
CMA educational requirements can be fulfilled in two ways:
1. Earn a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
2. Have a professional certification
Also, CMA does not require you to have a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
Hey Nathan! Could please update us with the process of the latest fee and registration process. Thank you.
Hi Arathy, it hasn't changed for 2023. It's still the same process on IMA's website.
regarding the work experience. you said if your 60% of your courses are accounting and corporate financial management courses you meet the experience qualification. does that mean that there is no need to have a 2 years of work experience anymore?
Hi. After passing both parts of the CMA exam, you will need two continuous years of professional experience in management accounting and/or financial management. This experience can be gained before or within 7 years of passing the exam. Part-time positions can also count towards this requirement as long as they amount to a full-time equivalent.

Hello coach! I want to ask how many months or years is the interval of taking the next part of cma certification exam?
Hi Christia, candidates have up to 3 years to pass both parts of the CMA exam.

I believe Professional but please double check with the IMA to be sure.

Job role -Cashier
Designation - Assistant Manger

If you're an active student then the Student membership is the one you want.
Hi sir
I am from India and I have completed my UG in recognised university and I am doing my CA I.e CA Final now.Now I want to enroll for cma. Please guide me through sir

Hey i have done Master of Commerce so which IMA Membership is good for me?
If you are no longer an active student then the Professional membership.
Hai, I am about to do my Part 2 I passed Part 1 in July 2020 window..
I hope to pass P2 in next window..
Would like to know details about educational transcripts submission once we pass the exam.
I registered as professional
Your school will need to send official transcripts to the IMA. For more info on that, contact IMA directly for additional guidance: www.imanet.org.
Sir I am a final year degree student... Am I eligible for registration?
Because you don't have a bachelor's degree yet, you are not eligible to get certified. However, you can start preparing for the CMA exam during your final year in college.
@@Cmacoach thank you sir

Hi Navneet, congrats on graduating! If your plan is to work in management accounting, then the CMA is the perfect fit.
First You Have Get Experience Relevant Field Than You Go For CMA
Hello Sir, I work in a bank as an officer in India, I have 8 years experience in banking, MBA holder, what kind of membership should I choose to proceed..? Kindly advise me. Also whether this experience would be sufficient for completing experience part in the exam, I mean the nature of my job.
If you are no longer in college, then the Professional membership is the right one for you.
CMA Coach thank you Sir
Can u tell in how much time do people complete cma like average records ? ...also is it having scope in gulf .. plzz reply ... 🤔...?
The CMA is recognized worldwide including the Persian Gulf. It takes about 1 year to pass both exams.
@@Cmacoach thanks a lot :))

Sir I'm a UG student doing Bcom with CS in India ...will I be able to do CMA after completion?
Hi Sandra, after completing your Bachelor's degree, you can definitely pursue the CMA.
is it necessary/useful to get experience in public and cpa before going into management accounting
Hi Long, it's not necessary to have public accounting experience before going into management accounting. There are thousands of accountants who hold managerial positions and never worked in public accounting. I'm one of them. Is it useful though? Absolutely. All accounting experience whether private or public is useful in the long run.
Are you training for cma Canada ? Or US
US CMA
Hi Sir, I am Ella and i am a General Accountant in practice since year 2015. I really want to get a CMA title and would like to ask what if I couldnt passed the exam? is there any chance to take again?
Hi Ella, yes definitely. Exam retakes are permitted but only in a new exam window, not the same exam window. Thanks for watching.
I am a bcom graduate..i want to take up for CMA course...how to begin? Which membership to choose?.I am from India can I answer it from India?.please help

@@Cmacoach thank you so much Sir.
I get confused about the work experience...after cma exam do i have to get 2 years work experience? or my subjects of bcom are enough?
My subjects were
Financial management
Strategic management
Service
General management
Mathematics
Economics...
What is it about 60% of your subjects marks something?..
@@Cmacoach currently i am also doing my training near a chartered accountant will it be enough to get the IMA requirements...
Hi Lulian, I like where your heads at. Tackling one part at a time is the best approach. 4 months per part is the sweet spot in my opinion.
hye sir I did b.com in 2018 now I preparing for cma , I don't do any job or study which membership should I take
Hi Sunny, if you are not in school anymore, the default membership is Professional.
i have already enrolled myself with cima & completed 35% marks along with my undergraduate degree in accounting.is this a right way for carrier please suggetion.
Tanmoy, you are already 35% done so keep moving forward and complete it 100%.
