Bruh. This is insane. I almost don’t want this channel to blow up LOL
Great strategies. I’m 2 weeks in and (while it took a phone call) my second card was approved.
I have my own timeline for #3 and a long horizon for when I’ll use the points for a “once in a lifetime” family vacation.
Thank you for the excellent advice. 💳
For anyone wondering, the bonus points and FNC posted about a week after the minimum spend processed. My first billing cycle hasn’t even closed yet.
Stellar work. Would you be able to make a video on how to maximize Rakuten?
I plan to cover Rakuten in one of my next couple of uploads
Thanks for the hard hitting strategies! This channel is a gem
Glad you like them!
Good stuff. I've got the Surpass and basic Honors currently, and perhaps it would make sense for me to downgrade the Surpass at this time. Never thought about downgrading it, so you've definitely given me a push to consider that one. The original plan was just to later grab the Aspire when the SUB is right and then wait for upgrade offers on the 2 lesser cards, but maximizing it all the way is enticing and right now my Surpass isn't doing any work at all anyhows.
Ive had all three cards and never got a upgrade offer so i just went ahead and upgraded it myself to have 3 aspires. Just opened up the business version for this 150k sub
Ethan! My first time watching your channel. I really like the super-detailed approach! (even though I'm probably not going for it right now, I'm going to tuck it away!!!)
You earned a sub from me!
Awesome, thank you! Glad you enjoy
Love the content! The tough part is getting an upgrade offer. I have had the $0 AF Hilton for nearly 2 years, and I have not receive an upgrade offer and am not eligible for any upgrade offer when I message AMEX
It’s definitely hit or miss. I know multiple people who have completed it exactly as outline, 3 SUBs and 6 upgrade offers. However, like you said, the counter example also happens a lot (perhaps more often) where you get stuck. I don’t see the harm in trying if you are already over Chase 5/24
Amex will give you upgrade offer after you spend heavily on card. Example: I had regular Amex hilton card went to fort Walton beach hilton garden (2 rooms 4 nights didn’t use points & my parents went w/ us so booked their room under my account & they paid me for their room so got spend and points-stayed this in November 2021) A month later they send me upgrade offer to surpass. I get surpass and take points then used points for 3 days hilton in St. Louis & 2 nights Omaha later in year. I then get wife signed up for surpass card 150k offer July 2022 (gold status) We stayed Springdale cliffrose curio Zion National park in aug 2022 & spent about $6k at hotel staying in their nicest room normally $2800 per night but only costs $700 per night cuz stayed in middle of August. We didn’t use our points…. But after staying there Amex sends me upgrade offer to surpass 150k offer & I accept. Then couple months later they gave me diamond status for 16 months free for being loyal customer. I also racked up a bunch of points from staying at hotel. Now I’m using 320k points to stay at ocean view 2 Queen hearing accessible room (80k points per night but 5th night free) w/ diamond status should get upgraded… this same room not hearing accessible is 265k points per night but they still have hearing accessible room’s available but points went up since i booked trip. Also using all my points I’ve accumulated & already booked 5 nights free for Gatlinburg Tn in November at double tree hotel only 163k points for 5 nights in November so still diamond status till end of this year so should get upgraded we currently have 2 king bed (not hearing accessible cuz didn’t have a better room value) but every other hotel charge about 55k-60k per night this hotel we staying at only 33-37k point’s average per night. So if Amex likes you they going to hook you up…you have to spend $$ on some trips then take advantage of points when makes sense. We didn’t like any of the rooms using points at Zion National park hotel so said let’s just spend money especially since we got the penthouse suite for only $700 per night (I think we racked up about 320k points just staying there so pays for our Fort Lauderdale trip). Good luck Wright reactions on getting upgrade offers I hope 🤞 my advice helps & works for you
Love your videos, keep them rolling! Explained very well and thoroughly. Can't wait for more!
More to come! Appreciate it
Super clear and helpful - thanks so much
Thank you for the content. I would love to see a similar video about a Marriott strategy.
is this still doable? I know amx likes to switch things up
Great Video Ethan!
i got the surpass last year and was wondering how SUBs and UOs would work for the other cards. so thank you for this!! time to sign up for the other two and start the process
Glad I could help!
So if I have the business Hilton but want the personal surpass, am I able to get SUB.
Thanks for the info it is very useful. Do you think this would work with Marriott and Delta card?
Very clear explanation thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Dang! How long did it take for you to figure this out? I'm currently a Surpass member.
When you upgrade you have to pay the annual fee? Like the $450 aspire
is this strategy still possible at this time? I've heard that getting upgrade offers is becoming rare
Still possible but more difficult than ever. Regardless, you’re predicting the upgrade offer availability 1 year from now when you start this strategy since that’s when you would first be eligible. Could be much better by then, could be much worse. It’s a gamble but you would still come out ahead with just the sign up bonuses.
I am trying to apply for a Hilton Surpass, but I end up in pop jail. I have 4 Amex credit cards including Hilton Honors plus I am an authorized user on my wife's Delta Gold Card. Amex has a policy maximum you can have is 5 credit cards, if an authorized user on a credit card is it counted as part of the policy
does airline credit trigger on airline giftcards?
I never got an upgrade for any of those card. I opened all 3
Hi, I got a hilton surpass last June 2022. Which one should I get next hilton honors or the hilton aspire?
Sounds good in theory but I have a total of 6 Hilton no annual fee card and have been waiting the past couple of yrs for an upgrade offer
Put some spend on them. May help
Hi, so do we wait until the annual fee is charged before we downgrade?
Question, if we earn a free night certificate with the Surpass after spending $15k, do we still keep the certificate if we downgrade?
max card number is 5 not 6
Thank you!
You're welcome!
So i could get aspire, use the benefits and downgrade 6 months later and get $225 back?
If you close before one year they claw back the sign up bonus
How do i get an upgrade offer? On my login page for amex, it says to upgrade my hilton honors but when i click on more info. It says nothing about getting any kind of bonus
Wait and get lucky. I would login into your account occasionally and look at the for you offers. If it doesn’t offer points to upgrade don’t take it.
Does this strategy apply for Delta cards as well? I prefer airline points over hotel.
I looked into it and theoretically it would work. The issue is upgrade offers aren’t as common as the delta cards. But it looks like you can use the same logic. Make sure to get a welcome bonus before taking an upgrade offer as welcome bonuses have lifetime language and upgrades do not. If your chasing flights it may make more sense to take another approach, like churning ink cards or the quad platinum strategy. I have videos of both of these on my channel.
I have the aspire card, and when I try applying for the surpass, it says welcome offer not eligible. I called they say I can only have one welcome offer per brand
That’s not true for the Hilton cards, you can get every intro offer. There are tons of people myself included who have gotten multiple. It is never stated otherwise in the T&S regardless of what the rep said. Do you happen to be in pop up jail? Your message “welcome offer not eligible” sounds like pop up jail. What happens when you apply for any other amex card, do you get the same message?
I was approved for BBP after that. I guess I have to put some spending on the aspire card. Thank you!
How do you get the upgrade offer? I've be waiting on that for a couple years
Its a little bit of luck. Sometimes everyone can get them, sometimes they are targeted, sometimes they aren’t available. Im surprised it has been that long for you. In the covid era they were giving them out like candy and DoC said there was a targeted offer as well during the second half of 2022. You could maybe try calling AMEX and seeing if they would offer you one?
Do the upgrade offers count towards the 2 million points needed for lifetime diamond status?
No.
Once you’ve done all this and end up with the 3 aspire cards at the end are you keeping those open and paying $450 annual fee for each?
You could, but I wouldn’t. A year after upgrading and receiving the bonus you can downgrade or close them all. Downgrading to the no AF probably makes the most sense for most people.
@@ej.finance If I were you I would downgrade two to No AF and keep one. You will need the Apire card to get Diamond status. Use your one millions+ points with it.
If you get thrown into popup jail this all goes out the window
For the 6 credit card limit, does that include both personal and business cards?
It includes all the cards that show up on your login excluding the charge cards such as the platinum or gold or the business versions of these same cards. If the card doesn’t have a preset limit (platinum, gold) its likely one of the charge cards and not a credit card counting towards the 6 card limit.
@@ej.finance thanks. I currently have 2 business (including Hilton) and 1 personal
plastic do not accept amex anymore
Heard the news, it’s very unfortunate
Great info. Im doing something similar but I have way to many cards to stick completely to this. Anyways, I had the Surpass and the Honors, upgraded the Honors to the Aspire. Now I have the Surpass and the Aspire. I'm going to wait and upgrade the Surpass for another Aspire. I actually want 2. Behind the Platinum, the Aspire is my favorite card 🫡
The aspire is definitely a top tier card, up there for me too!
Do you get upgrade offers automatically in the mail? Do you call and ask for them?
Thank goodness UA-cam somehow blessed me with coming across your account. These strategies are insane!!! Why aren’t big UA-cam channels talking about this?!
What happens if I hit Amex popup jail?
And in pop up jail
Just got my Surpass card as I wanted to take advantage of the 130K bonus points and free night certificate for 2K spend in 3 months. Based on your video my next move would be applying for the No Fee Honors card and then wait for an upgrade on Surpass or Regular Honors? How long should I wait for applying for Honors ?
Do not take an upgrade offer to a card you haven’t received the sign up bonus on. So if you received an upgrade offer on your surpass to an aspire and you took that you couldn’t get a sign up bonus on the aspire in the future. If you already received the aspire sign up bonus in this case though, you’re good to go ahead and take the upgrade offer.
I just applied for the Surpass during that bonus offer that ended on 7/19. Just got the card yesterday. My next move would be applying for the Hilton honors base card then correct?
if i want lifetime diamond , you need to keep aspire for 10 yrs?...i
I have 2 slots left for amex hilton which is the best stratergy right now with free night cerificates, i will get aspire now wait 5 days and get surpass, or get honors? i have gold status with amex business plt.
Can you open the Aspire card first and then the other cards later and still get upgrade offers?
Bangers on bangers on bangers!
Thank you you’ve explained this better then anyone else I’ve seen, even UA-camrs that I really like lol.. great video.. I can see how this is easy after you understand it, but hard to explain properly
Can I add the business card to this strategy?
Do this still work in 2024?
Thanks for this video. I’m just getting into this game and this is a heck of a strategy!! I love the fact that you provided 2 methods for high and low spenders.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched and it’s quality. Theoretically, does this strat apply to Amex charge cards (Plat, Gold, Green)?
This strategy does not apply to charge cards but you can check some other strategies on my channel relating to those
Very well put together, thanks for making. Spent the whole video cackling that this is viable. Wonder if they’ll close these loopholes at some point.
It sounds good in theory, but hard to execute. Upgrade offers are not as common as you may think. Pop-up jail is rampant right now too.
I totally agree! More of a theory video. People have done it before though. The main takeaway needs to be you can get upgrade offers even if you have had a sign up bonus in the past. This applies to all amex products as well, e.g. upgrading a gold to a platinum (once you receive the upgrade offer)
Suppose the only other drawback is this sounds like it’d become annual fee hell very quickly. You’d absolutely make up for it if it worked properly obviously, but it’s still going to be $1k+ hitting you all at once when you’re paying for multiples of the high end card.
Do you think it’s possible to do the same thing with delta cards?
Yes it is also theoretically possible but with those I would question whether it may be more lucrative to do the standard amex cards and transfer the MR to Delta.
Well articulated and very informative. I learned a lot, thank you❤
You are so welcome!
The number of variations and permutations is dizzying, but the basics are solid and easy enough to understand. Great video, very informative
thanks for the intel! i just the Hilton Honors Business card (130k bonus + free night award) so that's another card to put in the mix to earn even more points :)
Would I downgrade after the 2nd Annual fee and pay it. Then downgrade? Just don’t want to hit jail
Do you think this same strategy would work with the Delta or Marriot credit card?
Any ballpark as to how much this will cost in annual fees?
new to your channel, love what you’re doing here. Really separates you from other content creators. Thanks.
These Hilton cards are crazy for value huh
Very informative. Do you have a similar strategy for mariott?
great video! advice please. i've got an 830 credit score and get offered a ton of ccs. i've got all the top ones like amex plat, amex bus plat, gold, ritz, amex hh business, and regular amex hh which was downgraded years ago from surpass. my next card on the list is the aspire, but i've been trying for over a year and keep getting that stupid amex pop up saying something like i've had too many welcome offers etc. i don't want to simply upgrade the hh amex to aspire without getting the points. is it just a matter of a waiting game? like a year? or never? or do i have to spend a ton of money on my amex hilton honors cards? please help. thank you!
There is no guaranteed method but waiting and spending money on your amex cards is the best bet. Keep in mind the opportunity cost of this however if you are putting spend here instead of on cards with better rewards or sign up bonuses.
Clear and useful content. Highly appreciating! Glad I came across this content!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
Thanks again!
Does amex take back your fnc or the airline and hotel credits that you've already used if you downgrade the aspire card?
Normally not if you have had the aspire for a year or over
These are all "bonus points" and won't count towards life time hilton status correct?
Correct.
So what can I book with 1,500,000 Hilton points?
1.5 Million Hilton points is around $7500 in cash value, so virtually anything. Probably best to employ this before an aspirational trip, for example, to the overwater bungalows in the Maldives.
Can you make a video about all the cards you own and why you have them?
I probably will at some point
Great video , I would just like to add that you can get approved for 2 American Express cards in 1 days. I opened my first 2 cards about a month ago (applied at the same time ) currently waiting my 90 days to get the aspire .
what were the two and how do you like them thus far?
@@ludel most recently it has been the Hilton honors and surpass card . They’ve been ok but I’m really looking forward to opening the aspire in the next few weeks . Gold status has been ok for me so I’d like to see what I can get from diamond status with that card
Wow! After a year of learning about points and miles, I am still playing checkers. Question: with the amount of spend for SUBs and AFs needed for these strategies, is mega-Hilton better than using the same amount of cash on Chase cards to redeem for Hyatt?
If you aren’t currently on Chase sign up bonuses, I would prioritize those first. This is more a later game strategy. I would hit the freedoms, a sapphire, and probably 2 ink cards at least before moving on from Chase if I was still under 5/24. If you’re just passively spending on chase cards and no longer getting additional sign up bonuses, this will be better.
Just subscribed 👍🏼 I have 4 inks and the CSR. I should go back and pick up the freedoms. What other business cards do you like? I have Wyndham, IHG Premier, and the BBP. Thx!
Is there a benefit to opening the cards in the order of Aspire, Surpass, Honors? Or would it still be ok to do Aspire first then Honors and Surpass last?
You can do whatever order you want. Its most efficient to do what I outlined (since you can only downgrade a card after a year of owning it without penalty) but it doesn’t really matter.
Awesome thanks. Is this doable for Amex or chase Marriott as well?
@@jadickso Nothing near as powerful with Marriott but Ill be coming out with a Marriott credit card strategy in the next 5 videos or so
I was just thinking about the same thing the other day. And your video came in clutch. Always in-depth, detailed strategies and explanation. Your channel deserves more views and subs. Keep up great work!
