The games against Chile and Peru will be massive. Canada will need at least 4 points against them teams. I have them in 2nd or 3rd. I'm leaning more towards Chile at moment.
They have some good attackers so they could do something. Eustaquio hasn't been playing as much for Porto in the 2nd half of the season.

Canada have the potential for 2nd place but defensively they need to be organized

This really is a dream situation for Canada right now. Chile and Peru will both provide real competition that Canada can feel they can keep up with and potentially get a result, while also getting the pure joy of facing Messi and Argentina (very arguably the best international squad ever). And this after getting to play Netherlands and France! The challenge will be how to keep key players healthy through those 3 top tier teams so as to give a run at getting results against Chile and Peru, cause you just know Canada will want to go out and give 120% - can't afford to lose Eustaquio to injury again like in Qatar.

Canada definitely was the quality but playing matches against Chile & Argentina will be absolutely difficult for us. Come game time, they need to really bring the best they have to offer to even make it out of this group stage.

It’s clear that Canada Soccer is moving in the right direction

The new CEO of Canada Soccer seems to be turning things around. There is a lot of activity right now around the coach hire. I still hope against hope they announce a hire in the next 2 weeks and that coach does what he can with very little time and uses the Netherlands/France friendlies to get halfway prepared to deploy a proper tactical approach against group A. This is likely what determines whether Canada are embarrassed at the tourney or actually show up. The squad needs to be led into some disciplined defensive tactics cause yes, that is where the squad it really weak, which is massively compounded by the wide open play they generally deploy. A 4-1-4-1/4-5-1 with a CDM that explodes in counter attack is what I'd like to see but even if the new coach wants to take the team that direction they won't have a lot of time to break the wide open play habits the group has been used to.

If a new coach does indeed arrive he has an impossible task to prepare for this Copa America, this isn't a gold cup.

@@MichaelTalksFootball1 Yes, but with capable players experienced at the highest levels of the game (Eustaquio, Davies, David and others), good tactics can be adopted quickly. For me, I was very encouraged by the fact that in person interviews are happening right now because those coaches will come into those meetings with a prepared plan. In other words, they won't just be hitting the ground cold - they already know what they'll be doing, so it'll just be a matter of getting the squad refined in the tactics, which is what Netherlands/France will be for. But yeah, the time is very tight. They'll have to announce someone really soon. There's a high likelihood that Biello takes them into the tourney, but it sure seems Kevin Blue is doing everything he can to get the hire in place.

@greglawrence9230 Canada won't pass first round this is not gold cup . Copa America is a short tournament. Every national team will bring their young players and with experience. It will be high intense games .

    • @greglawrence9230
      @greglawrence9230 Місяць тому

@@DanielCedeno-gb2gk I agree the Copa ain't no Gold Cup - it's the big show. But I assure you that the management teams of both Chile and Peru will be taking Canada's attacking quality very, very seriously - recognizing that they can be hurt repeatedly if they're not careful. The Canada midfield as well is very solid with Eustaquio and Kone, with hopefully a 3rd in there as well. The question is about how Marsch's style will fair and how well the squad adopts it successfully through the Netherlands/France friendlies and against Argentina. But the chances of Canada being a real dark horse have now gone up significantly with Marsch being appointed. With Biello, we would have expected Canada to simply press forward into a defensive block and struggle to find success. Marsch seems to recognize that Canada will need to press deep in their own end and hit hard on counter. If they can do this successfully they will be very, very dangerous, indeed. My bet is that after working out the kinks against Netherlands/France/Argentina, Peru and Chile are going to get a real run for their money. I think there's a really good chance Canada get through. We shall see.

@@MichaelTalksFootball1 Canada has 11 players on the Copa roster who were not at the WC. They include the likes of Moise Bombito (the fastest player in MLS), Jacob Shaffelburg (the second fastest player in MLS), Ali Ahmed (scouted for Europe), hot MLS striker Tani Oluwaseyi, Theo Bair (4th leading scorer in Scotland), keeper Max Crepeau who shone vs France and Jacen Russell-Rowe who is doing well in MLS. Three or four of those MLS guys will likely be playing for better teams in Europe within two years.

Dude you have no idea what you are talking about. Seriously, at least do a little bit of research that is newer than 6 months old. Herdman’s time had come. He was tactically deficient. The Canadian Soccer Association was a joke for a long time and they were hamstrung by some poor business decisions. You said something about not organizing good quality friendlies. Do you even understand how the economics of friendlies work? You have to pay teams to come play in your own country. The better the team the more it costs. So in order to get high quality opponents they have to play away and then basically get in line to play the big teams that everyone else wants to play. In addition, the number of friendlies that national teams get to play has reduced significantly with the addition of Nations League to CONCACAF. Almost every window is taken up with teams having to qualify for something. Also, it looks like Canada Soccer is finally getting their shit together. They hired a new General Secretary who so far seems like a level-headed no bullshit guy. Kevin Blue is his name and he was instrumental in hiring your boy Jesse Marsch.
Also, since Canada did hire Jesse Marsch, all of your childish thoughts on tactics make no sense. Canada played their two most recent friendlies with Marsch as Manager with 4 at the back not 5. Also, Marsch has Davies playing Left Back with a license to get up the pitch as well as to sometimes play in the half space. That being said, Canada’s success is not predicated on Davies scoring goals. It’s predicated on counter-pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch, which should favor players like Jonathan David and Cyle Larin to score more. Davies will have more of an offensive impact in games where Canada can expect more possession like I expect they will against Peru.
I am less concerned about our defense after watching how Marsch set up his team against Netherlands and France. He has found a winning CB pairing in Moises Bombito and Derek Cornelius. Both are very quick and decent in the air. But more importantly, they are both decent on the ball. In fact Bombito, who ply’s his trade in Colorado for the Rapids in MLS, is the second fastest player in MLS.
Eustaquio and Kone in central midfield will be the strength of this team by the time 2026 rolls around. They outplayed Kamavinga and Rabiot for large portions of the France friendly last week.
My biggest concern is when the goals are going to materialize. Against teams like Argentina or Uruguay or Brazil, Canada may only get one or two high quality chances and they need to get something from those limited chances in order to surprise anyone at Copa.

I understand there's a few first world nations (sorry Finland, but the likes of Kimi Raikkonen, Mika Hakkinen, Tommi Makinen, Marcus Gronholm, Juha and Kalle Rovanpera have been saving your backs in F1 and WRC) who struggle with football, but Canada's struggles are by far the worst. They have 30+ million people and their main sport is ice hockey, but their excuses for failure since 1980 are literally abysmal. So many they couldn't qualify for the World Cup Hexagon quali round against the likes of Trini and Honduras. Some mock USA, but 2018 was their first failure to qualify for the World Cup since 1986. 2022 was Canada's first appearance since 1986 itself 😂. Australia and NZ themselves can say they care about rugby, Aussie rules and cricket more. Only Pakistan, Bangladesh and India are worse than Canada in the underachievers ranking

@@encorefootball If they could make it to the quarters then they may face Mexico. That would be a match they could feel they could win. I have zero faith in Biello and so if he takes Canada to the tourney then we'll do well to get a single result in the group stage, but the path for a surprise run at this Copa couldn't be more favorable for Canada.
