The Magelight exploit works because the spell earns you XP based on how long the projectile flies before it strikes an object. In that particular area, you have a clear line of sight for a very long distance, but there's actually an invisible wall there that the ball hits. Normally if you just chucked Magelight, it would despawn when it gets outside the render distance. But because there's that invisible obstacle for it to hit and attach to, you get a shitload of XP because the ball flew an insane distance and actually hit something without despawning. If the spell flies and despawns without attaching, you get no XP.
I wonder if that wall is tied to the Meridia quest being nearby, or if it's purely due to the way they structured Solitude. I tested this out several times after seeing the exploit in a totally separate video, but there don't appear to be any other spots near the Meridia statue that trigger the same effect. I'm guessing it's something weird about Solitude. Perhaps the fact that, back up the side of that mountain, you have the Embassy to one side and the back exit to Potema's lair on the other? Then again, never attribute to intention what you can attribute to Bethesda incompetence.
@@WorldsUnhealthiestFitPerson There is something unique about that cell yeah, although I don't know exactly what. The Magelight exploit would theoretically work anywhere by chucking Magelight at a distant object, keeping pace with it until it strikes. But your speed, aim, and timing would need to basically be frame-perfect to get it to stick for max XP without despawning. Solitude just happens to be set up perfect from the get-go.
Your testing regarding Magelight not giving XP based on distance is correct. Magelight starts giving XP right around when it passes the first ridge shortly before it passes between the trees on that upper level, then stops giving XP, then starts giving XP again shortly before passing through the mountain behind. Testing using Fireball and tcl, these locations basically perfectly match where an invisible collision zone is. So my best guess is that for whatever reason Magelight doesn't collide with these invisible zones, but is still being considered as "colliding" every single game tick it's inside one of these zones for the purpose of XP gain, resulting in ridiculous amounts of XP.
I'm tired so hopefully this makes sense. Maybe the XP has to deal with how many "cells" it travels through. Like Dragonsreach is one big cell but there could be many different cells going up the mountain maybe?
If someone wants to get detect life spell early, then go west of Riften to Treva's Watch. Get quest to clear fort of bandits and instead of fighting trough cave just jump on the rocks near the questgiver camp, get on the fort walls and open the gate to complete task. Questgiver will clear enemies by himself and give you a spellbook
I was watching the Telekinesis part wondering why on Earth is this the second 'slow' method. It seemed pretty fast to me. And then I got to the fast part. This is Bethesda magic mixed with Source (Valve) spaghetti levels of jank. The good shit!
I only said Telekinesis was slow because of all the prerequisites. That being you need Dawnguard DLC, at minimum 100% reduction cost in alteration magic, then the telekinesis spell tome. But after all the prerequisites are met the levels are faster with it.
What the heck?! I didn't know you can do telekinesis and then fast travel to get a lot of xp. WOW. That magelight trick is better. No need to do all that fast travel. What a guide!
I don’t know I think the mage light trick is faster. Well from the start of the game at least. If you try this on a save file where you have access to items that get you to 0 cost telekinesis then yes. Its faster.
For anyone curious, the magelight exploit/bug shown at the end of the video works with the latest version of the unofficial patch (USSEP). Open Cities seems to "fix" the bug
7:48 Maybe it's caused by something like "area brightened"? If you tested in dragonsreach, it's already pretty light, but if it's dark and the distance is long, maybe it's lighting up a lot of space, giving the exp. But I don't know. 😂
If it were that, you could cast the spell up or down the Throat of the World and do something similar. It doesn't work there. In fact, it doesn't seem to work anywhere besides that spot in Solitude. I certainly could be wrong about other areas where it glitches, but were it purely about the area effect of the spell, there would be plenty of other places that would trigger the gain.
Telekinesis, combined with 4 enchanted alteration items will raise alteration skill from 15 to 100 with a single fast travel. One of the black books with a per of zero magica cost for 30 seconds also works in place of the enchanted items. Throw item on ground, grab using spell and initiate fast travel without releasing the spell. Spell book can be grabbed at Red Water Den whenever you can survive a bear or two.
I used the Solitude Magelight exploit. Just go thru the gate leaving Solitude. When you appear outside the gate just turn 45° to the right and spam the mountain peak with magelight.
I wonder if the Magelight EXP is by how bright it is, which normally is a set amount.... HOWEVER, when firing it that direction, isn't that the direction of Meridia up in the sky? I'm wondering if you're hitting Meridia, which is represented by a HUGE bright light, so it counts Meridia's aura as part of the spell and gives you an oversized XP chunk for the casting when it sticks to the Daedric Prince?
Someone else said that its because of there being no light there and the light is what's giving the XP but I couldn't find a source anywhere else saying that the amount of area being lit up is what corresponds to XP.
@@ShorkWasTaken Yeah, if that's the case, then hitting Meridia with it could be the source of the XP, since they're so bright normally. I'll have to take a little look next time I'm around Solitude and the lighthouse and see if there's a correlation.
@superflashxmedia7706 but even of you have telekinesis you still need the magicka to cast it for the whole distance traveled or gear that can take the cost to 0.
@@ShorkWasTaken Secret of Arcana from the Black Book: Filament and Filigree gives unlimited mana for 30 seconds, the thirty seconds doesn't really matter though because you're fast travelling and since fast travelling across thhe map causes at least a day to pass you can just use the Secret of Arcana again right away
You need the required magicka for it to work. So you'll either need millions of magicka in reserves or you'll need equipment that reduces alteration spells to zero.
