Teradek all the way, just the slightly better range, zero latency and multiple RX compatibility make it a big deal imo. Of course the hollyland is way cheaper so it’s a bit Apple vs oranges. Also I was wondering how does the image quality compare on the two units? I had a huge problem with image quality transmitted on my newly bought Accsoon Cineview SE, the bitrate was so low that I couldn’t really tell what was in focus in fast moving scenes, even in HQ mode. Is it just a common issue with wifi based systems or does it look fine on the hollyland?
The image quality looks about par with the 1080p on the Teradek 4k 750 LT - no real complaints on that front. Again wouldn’t pull with the Hollyland due to the latency but the image quality in my mind doesn’t leave too much to be desired
great review. Subbed. I will say focus pulling with this unit for most shots can be overcome with practice. You shouldn't have to of course which is your point :) (no latency would just be better) but at this price point, it isn't quite as bad as this video is implying for most shots. Even some pretty intense action or long oners can be pulled with proper choreography... but if you are filming the next Raid or John Wick? Yea, not gonna work very well.
So I like the idea, has a great range but again the latency is the issue. I believe the DJI system actually has worse latency than the HollyLand system. It also has only a receiver with a built in display which is a real limit if you ever work with any other systems (because you have to use that bulky monitor if it’s your main focus pulling monitor) or use the receiver with a different (possibly bigger) monitor. So wouldn’t work for me as a focus puller but again would be fine as a directors monitor. Would love to see their latency come down!
Great Video! Currently I am using the old Hollyland Cosmo 500 Unit and this Unit has 0ms and I am greatfull I bought it in the last second. The problem with the 500 is the non DFS function. In other countrys you need the DFS Feature as well. One more feature of the Mars 4K is the ne feature with the M1 Monitor. Great Combo for the director as you mention Teradek to AC and AC to director Combo ;)
Oh man am I jealous - I've heard of some people really liking that system. Too bad about the DFS - I think they took it off the market due to some licensing issue? I don't remember but its too bad it still can't be bought. I'd pick one up in a heart beat. That is true about the Mars 4K! The M1 Monitor is a solid addition to the system. It would really work well for a small director's feed!
Would this work to connect an ipad pro as a secondary computer screen? I know there's an app but I need the client to be able to see photos as they come into CaptureOne. ie: Macbook Pro running CaptureOne>Transmitter>iPad as a secondary display.
Thanks for making this video, how would you compare the image quality of the teradek vs the holyland? Im actually moving to the Teradek system and wondering about image quality.
@@JacobVossFilms yes my main worry is focus peaking on the lower quality transmitters its almost always not too accurate whereas a cleaner image gets a better readout for the focus peaking.
Yeah would not recommend this transmitter for focus pulling period, too much latency. Image is decent but the extra sharp image on the Teradek is nice (on top of the almost zero latency)
Thanks I was waiting for a proper review on this product! I’m always on the lookout for good wireless video systems but I’m always disappointed lol. It seems like only teradek and vaxis have proper units with zero delay and multiple RX options. Do you know why? I heard that teradek have an exclusive deal with a zero delay with the only zero delay chip manufacturer or something, making it impossible for competition in the market. I sold my Hollyland cosmo 500 a year ago but I regret it a bit, I thought they would make newer zero delay systems but it doesn’t seem like it… also bought the Accsoon Cineview SE a few weeks ago and returned after my first shoot, my AC was mad at the unit 😅.
Yeah I believe it’s some licensing deal but I can’t seem to find the whole story online. Too bad because the Cosmo 500 seemed like a fantastic product. Hoping Hollyland comes back with a zero-delay system at some point soon
If my output is via SDI, can I use an HDMI input into a switcher (or monitor) or does it also have to be an SDI input? Not sure if these questions are dumb or not lol
Hello, I have a live broadcast on the Facebook platform. I need a broadcast device, knowing that there are two cameras, one that is connected directly via cable, and the second is via a wireless system, knowing that the sound will be separate from the two cameras. Will this device solve the problem or will there be a delay or everything will be fine. Sorry if some of the words are not understandable because I use Google Translate. Thank you
This is actually a pretty good translation from google translate! It should work for that purpose, there would be a 66ms delay but that's not really much of a perceptible difference for something where the cameras are switched between angles and not shown simulateously. Hopefully that makes sense.
Bra I love how they added app connectivity but hate that they took out the SDI loop out!!! Now I have to get the C1 comboed with one mars 4k transmitter to pull off this phone app crap lol. It's going to look so messy :(
I’m totally fine with not having a 12G SDI connector. All of the reports of people powering devices on in the wrong sequence and frying cameras has me very cautious about using anything with them. Plus, how important is 4K field monitoring, really? Ultimately, it sounds like the latency and ability to only use two receivers kill this as a viable Teradek replacement, which is a shame. They’re almost there.
Yeah I mean it would have been nice and a good way for them to outperform their Teradek/vaxis competitors but unfortunately they didn’t. I’m sure you know but for other people reading comments just as good practice - ALWAYS plug in power first then SDI and when removing connectors, unplug SDI before touching power. This will ensure the port doesn’t get fried. If you’re really worried use the Lentequip Safetaps that won’t allow power through them till pins are connected. Latency definitely does hold this system back a bit, there are definitely some good use cases for it that don’t rely on that but it would have been something as an AC I would have really appreciated if they had gotten it closer to zero.
@@JacobVossFilms I didn't know about the Lentequip Safetaps, and now I want to swap all of my D taps to those! If only they also had a 2 pin lemo version...
I try to have them on most of my gear (as saved my stuff a few times with film cameras (235, 435) when the dtap ports weren’t properly regulated but especially on anything that has an SDI port. The good thing about 2 pin lemos is they’re pretty hard to plug in where the positive connects before the negative (because the connector tolerance is tight and the pins are deep in there - also the metal doesn’t flex like PTap connectors will) so this isn’t nearly as common of an issue with lemos - idk if I’ve ever heard of anyone frying an SDI when powering with Lemos (although I’m sure someone has)
I’ve never seen it happen personally, but I do know somebody who reversed a Lemo. He was moving fast and twisting while inserting the connector. Somehow everything bent just enough to let him fry a motor.
What are your thoughts on the Mars 4K versus the Teradek 4K 750 LT? Range is pretty impressive honestly.

What’s the plate in between the receiver and the v mount battery? Did you rig that yourself?
Do you mean the monitor cage? The Wooden Camera Directors Monitor Cage V3 and I put on a goldmount plate on it
DJI Transmission - your thoughts?

Hey Jacob., Do yo know if I can I transmit from sdi and receive to hdmi?
Yes that is possible!

I have turned on the automatic UA-cam subtitles and I am having way too much fun with Teradek being transcribed as "Terror Deck" or "Tarot Deck"

It should but there would be a decent delay

It’s pretty comparable although I have noticed when blowing the image up bigger the Teradek is better

Any idea how Hollyland manages to fit H.264 Main 16~20Mb/s bitrate (verified from Hollyland) into the 12 Mb/s bandwidth of the product?
It's advertised as having a range between 8 - 20 Mbps with a default of 12 Mbps.
If i'm filming in 4k, can I transmit to a monitor that's only 1080 and it be displayed in 1080? Or does it have to match
Yeah you can transmit to a 1080 display - my SmallHD is only 1080

This device can cross convert between SDI to HDMI and vice versa 👍
And it’s not a dumb question because some cant
