I operated Letourneau machines in the late 80's and early 90's that were made for the forestry industry but adopted to work in the railway container industry. They were a awesome machine to operate once you got used to the technology and how they worked. We had about 4 of them working in the container operation at Conport inland depot north of Toronto and they did their job and were great to operate from a operators point of view.
Very interesting , however rubber tires on off road machinery was not Firestone and LeTurneau it was invented by Allis Chalmers and Firestone and the first tires used for testing came off an airplane
Mommy father had two electric sliders in the sixties These machines could skid more and climb places no other truck jeep or rubberized machine could climbing and descending 46%grades with 30 chokes on board
